SUPCASE Apple Watch 4 Case 40mm 2018, [Built-in Screen Protector] Soft TPU Protector Case [2 Color Combination Pack] for Apple Watch Series 4 40mm (Clear/Clear)

Thick and sleek. Looks well-manufactured. Appropriately tight fit on a series 4 40mm and it’s secured by watch band. Dot pattern somewhat visible. More details below...

Like you, I’m looking to protect my apple watch investment and am ok with a bit of reduction in ‘sleekness’ for a bit of increased protection. Here are some details that may help you as you decide which case is best for you:

(PS - I bought this case on my own and have no affiliation with Supcase. I just like writing detailed reviews.)

FIT (see photos):
The fit is quite good, as all the appropriate slots and holes are trimmed out well and cleanly, and the curves fit the new curves of the series 4. The face surface fits well with no sagging or ‘sticky spots’ showing adhesion to the screen (blacker spots) - unless moisture gets underneath, obviously. This case covers a good 85% of the watch with just the HR sensor, dial, mic, speakers, and most of the back open. The rest is enshrouded in TPU, including the side pill-shaped button, the two band-release buttons, and wrapping around all four bottom edges. The case pretty much covers all non-operational metal surfaces - like where the gold/silver/grey parts are - and the screen.

MATERIAL:
The case material is TPU (yay! not vinyl) and is nice and thick, but still sleek in appearance. The case mostly disappears but is visible if you’re looking right at it. In addition to what I’m hoping is a good deal of protection, it adds a bit of shine to the curves of the somewhat matte aluminum casing, as well. It’s very clear, and doesn’t seem to add glare to the flat screen surface. The watch screen is still viewable while wearing polarized sunglasses, however, you will see the tell-tale rainbow if there’s oil on it. There are very small ‘dots’ on the screen which you can see clearly in the photo, but less-so in person, especially with the screen turned on & from a typical viewing distance. I can’t tell if the dots are for touch-capability or venting, as I left some moisture in there (on the screen) overnight and it dried by the next day. My hope is that the TPU stays clear and doesn’t yellow with use.

USABILITY:
I’ve just worn it one day without it, but usability doesn’t seem to be affected. Tap-Scrolling is smooth and buttons work. Heart rate still accurate as before. It actually makes the ‘band removal’ buttons easier to use, which is nice. I’ll be using it more and will update my findings.

PROTECTION:
(2-day update) Well, I finally had the ‘opportunity’ to test the protection. First, I slightly tapped the newell post of my staircase, and then I slammed my wrist into the right-angle edge of a massive, solid wood piece of door trim (industrial 1950’s). Of which the watch got caught on as I recoiled from the shock. Ouch. My wrist hurt quite a but, and still does, several hours later. But, the watch is unscathed! I added an after photo for proof (& after I cleaned it). So, yay for the protection aspect of this product!

WET USE:
As you may have figured, it’s not so great once water gets underneath (See passcode screen video). So, if you wear this and wash your hands (& I hope you do), you may need to remove the watch, or pull it up your arm a bit. If water seeps deep inside, it will just sit there, creating a continent-shaped black mark on your screen. This also affects the functionality of the touch screen. (video) It will dry eventually, but leaves a shadow of minerals where the water was. If a bit of water gets in the sides, I’ve had luck with pulling the case away a bit and blowing it out. Probably not great for the case, but works in a pinch. And, it comes as a 2-pack anyway. If you are a frequent dish-washer, water-sports person, or intense hand-washer, this case probably isn’t the best for you.
2-day UPDATE: I was able to get through several hand washings today while wearing the watch and not taking on any moisture inside. I had to be mindful, but it wasn’t impossible.

CASE APPLICATION:
Putting it on was fairly easy (you’ll need to remove the band first and be sure you don’t hold down the SOS button too long). I did need my fingernail for a bit of it (it got caught in the band slot), so it might be helpful to have something flat (& soft) handy, like a firm silicone spatula. If you have limited finger dexterity, it might be very challenging without help.

TIPS (I wish I had before I started):
1. find a soft landing pad surface to work over (in case you drop your watch)
2. grab a soft flat tool to help, if needed
3. turn off your watch (hold the oblong button in, slide the ‘turn off’ slider) before application, so you don’t accidentally activate any commands.
4. remove the band
5. wash your hands and use a soft, clean, & dry cloth to carefully wipe both the watch, as well as the inside of the case, before applying. Clean microfiber or eyeglass cloths work well. As you can see in the pics, a bit of dust can get trapped underneath, and that could lead to scratching (ironically), so wipe it well and apply in a reduced dust environment, if possible. Hand-washing and pre-wiping watch and case will also remove any oils that may affect it, too.
UPDATE: after two attempts, I was finally able to successfully apply the case sans any visible dust specks on the screen. (see cleaner photo)

CASE REMOVAL:
I’ve tried twice and it doesn’t come off very easily. For fear of ripping it, stretching it, or scratching the watch, I haven’t tried more forcefully to remove it. Or, maybe I’m just feeling lazy. This is definitely not a case that will accidentally fall off ever, and not one you would want to be removing often.
UPDATE: I tried again and was able to remove it more easily. Turn the watch off and then start from one corner and kind of ‘roll’ it off. I usually start with the dial and tug from there. It gets easier and it doesn’t rip.

DELIVERY:
I pre-ordered this case and it was delivered to me less than 10 days later, which was 3 days ahead of schedule. Now, it’s available on prime so shipping should be even faster.

PACKAGING:
The two cases arrived packed neatly in a black box in a little plastic tray with a foam square for support, as well as a card with their info. While I wish it was a bit more eco-friendly, overall it’s a good-looking package and not completely plastic, which is nice. The case, itself, had a slight bit of a plastic odor at first, but I could only smell it when I held it close to my nose, and fortunately, it dissipated within a minute. I’m sensitive to these things, so you might not even notice it.

FURTHER TESTING NEEDED:
- effects of water immersion/showering
- durability/longevity of materials

Overall, this seems like a great case. I wish it was a bit thinner and slightly easier to remove (mainly because I didn’t clean it well enough before putting it on 😆). But, I wanted protection and it definitely seems like that’s what this case offers. And, in a very cleanly manufactured format. Recommended.

I rely on reviews to help me make informed decisions. I hope this review was helpful to you :)

This cover fits snug, does not slip, is easy to clean, and responds very well to touch. I ordered a "stick-on" screen protector but used this instead. This SUPCASE has never failed to respond to touch as long as I had my gloves off. I have not worn it under water or in the shower, but it does seem that it might trap water under it, which might be inconvenient. However, as a day to day protector, it works well and rubs clean easily with a soft cloth if you get lotion or anything on it. From the two photos, you can see the snug fit and that it is not too bulky looking. It is a soft plastic. The buttons on the back to remove the band are in no way inhibiting when detaching the band. In bright light there's a faint dot pattern, which I assume must help with the touch sensitivity. Coming with two per pack is nice. It's a little more challenging to take off than it was to put on, but I was able to take it off and put it back on with the same nice fit.

I just received my order and I got it exactly when they said I would, which is always a plus in my book. It was packaged decently, although bigger than necessary, which could have saved on shipping price. Product fit perfectly and was mostly easy to get on (think my finger nails hindered me slightly which is obviously not product related). Touch screen seems to work just as good with it on as it did without it, but I just put it on and tried for a second. As for durability...it APPEARS that it will protect well and hold up well, but I will have to update if it disappoints. I’m a RN and won’t be as rough on it as some others may. Overall, satisfied with my purchase and would recommend. Happy that I have an extra one. Good deal!

I really like this fully protected Apple Watch screen protector. I really like it a lot more than the previous one I had purchased. My watch is protected and I’ve bumped it and hit it up against a few things at work already and it’s holding up very well. Overall, I highly recommend this product and I already plan on purchasing this item again in the future.

I decided to surprise my fiance with a new Apple watch because I loved the new safety features. She can be quite accident prone and we were still rocking the Series 2s. She likes putting protecting our electronic devices but also showing off their intended beauty so I got her this clear case. It eliminates the need for a screen protector and gunk would usually just build up in the cases we've tried if they weren't all encompassing. You don't notice it, but it gets in their and it can get gross. The case came in the day after I got her the watch and she's very happy with it. We don't notice any hindrance to touch sensitivity at all and it has all the appropriate cutouts for the speaker, mic and crown. The long button is under the case but they put extra TPU to raise it to the same height as the crown. The only thing I didn't like were the little dots on the case screen that are really only noticeable when the screen is dark. Otherwise, great case and I'm glad it came with two so the pair will probably last two years until we get Series 6s or whatever they're called

I was a bit skeptical in getting a case for the new watch 4 series but when I received it and installed it, the fit is perfect! It won’t get in the way of the touch screen capability. I love it. I had to get a case on it specially because it’s not cheap and I’m very clumsy and would probably scrape it on everything.

Wonderful case! And very happy that it came with 2! I recommend it to everyone with a job where you hit your hands and wrists on things all the time!

Received toast. First impression was that it was easy to put on, I took the hints from previous reviews about the white dust that can get under the protecter if you don’t clean it right before you put the watch in. (Just blow on it until the dust comes out or use your finger to take it out. Place protecter against a black background to see if you missed anything). I don’t notice a difference in the touch capabilities, it all seems normal. The only thing that’s sort of an issue to me is the rotating crown, it’s like flush with the protecter so it’s different to rotate the crown; it’s not as accessible as before(I can live with that in exchange for protection). It’s perfect for me since I always seem to be walking to close to the wall and end up hitting my wrist on it sometimes.

It’s pretty easy to put on and it goes on before you put the band on so it can’t fall off. Screen has a grid which I assume is for the touch capability, it’s only visible in low lighting. No problems with touch quality.

This was for my husband with a series 4 40mm screen. He doesn’t like how bulky it makes it, but it has taken a few hits that stood up to the test. The look being clear helps the bulk, but if any other bumper was on it would do the same thing. The screen sensitivity isn’t bad. There are faint little dots on the screen to help with the sensitivity, that doesn’t annoy my husband, but would me. Over all pretty good purchase for the price.
