My Sister's Grave (Tracy Crosswhite)

My Sister's Grave (Tracy Crosswhite)

Mysteries are one of the most read genre's in the book world. There are many author's and many tales to choose from. I've never given five stars, but if any book deserves it, this one does. My sister's grave is everything we crave in a mystery. Tracy Crosswhite, a Seattle detective has been fighting demons for two decades. When her younger sister disappears 20 years ago following a shooting competition, it shatters the lives of a family and a small, tight knit community. Tracy's father James, a we'll respected man in the small town of Cedar Grove Washington devotes his whole being to finding out what happened to Sarah, Tracy's sister. Roy Calloway, the sherriff of Cedar Grove, and a good friend of James Crosswhite believe they know who murdered Sarah. Edmund House, a convicted rapist has allegedly confessed to raping and murdering Sarah. There's just one big problem... they've never found her body. Questionable evidence ends up getting Edmund House convicted of the crime. His confession was never recorded, and to Tracy, a Seattle detective who quit her career as a chemistry teacher in Cedar Grove to become a law enforcement officer following her sister's disappearence, the evidence just doesn't add up. Now, 20 years later, after a dam is removed, hunters find the skeletal remains of Sarah in a shallow grave where a lake once stood. This puts into motion a complete revisiting of the case, with Tracy determined to find out who killed her sister. The story weaved by Mr. Dugoni is an incredible tale of love, deception, and how to reconcile both. I couldn't put this book down after the first chapter. As soon as you think you've figured out what's happened, you realize you haven't. The characters are real, the emotions raw. You'll find yourself convinced of one's wrongdoing only to question it later. This book is so we'll written, so engrossing that you almost don't want it to end. If you read only one murder mystery this year...make it this one. You won't be disappointed.

Seems like more often than not when I condescend to buy a Kindle book, I find that 25 pages in I think, "Well, that was another 2 bucks down the drain". So to say that I'm in heaven when I accidently come across an author who actually knows how to write a good book, is an understatement. What I want to know is why I've never come across Robert Dugoni before? This book has everything I'm always looking for--interesting characters, a page-turning plot, a tough, independent woman protanganist--the whole ball of wax. Plus, another example of secrets and lies eventually causing more trouble than they're worth. I've already ordered the next book in this series and fully expect to read all 5. If you like a book police procedural; you couldn't ask for more than you'll get with this book. And it only cost $1.99 instead of the $14.99 you usually have to pay for a really good read!

I love a series. Sometimes I find a character I like and buy all the other books to see how the character develops. Almost always the series starts with a mystery and, in a few books, it becomes personal. That's usually where the distraction begins. This one started with a personal issue. Fortunately, it did not detract from the story which we want to be "how the mystery is solved". Anyway, Crosswhite is a fully formed character at this point and likeable in her own way. She is the hero but subject to all the human conditions that make us relatable. I'm looking forward to seeing how she acts in the rest of the books.

I read reviews before buying these. There were some issues with the forward/backward timelines and some who thought that these "flashbacks" were a distraction and created confusion. Sometimes that is true, but I don't know if the story could be told in any different manner. And Dugoni is certainly a talented storyteller. If you are considering this book, it's a pretty good read.

I read, on average, 2-3 books a month. I have to say, this is the best book I have read in several years. The flashbacks along with current story lines makes the characters more complete. The story line involving the murder of Tracys' sister and the subsequent years of trying to determine the truth when an innocent man is sentenced for the crime and sent to prison. The twist and turns throughout the story made it move fast and kept me glued to the book to see who actually did it. When the conclusion arrived, I was floored by the reveal. I did not anticipate the ending. It wrapped everything up completely. It is a completely enthralling book that will grab and deep your attention for every page!!!

I've always enjoyed writing ... Erma Bombeck was an inspiration with her quick wit and ability to poke fun a the simple things in life which made me smile. Later, I moved on to a writing site on the Internet where your ability to post your own work was based on your willingness to critique others.. I've been an avid reader all my life and thought I was pretty good until I began to be nabbed and jabbed for common grammatical and writing errors ... passive voice, POV, and those little gnat-like words (such as had, that, etc.) I call these "stepping stones." It's much quicker (and smoother) to walk across a grass covered lawn than it is to step stone-by-stone before reaching your destination. Why am I telling you this? Because these are the things that went through my mind as I read this really great story and struggled with its lack of proof-reading.

Robert Dugoni is a great yarn spinner and I thoroughly enjoyed the story this book told, but the poor writing practices drove me to distraction time after time. Just for the fun of it, I began highlighting each use of "had" in a sentence. The results were unbelievable. One of the worse offenses was sentences using contractions. For instance ... she'd had. The contraction is a combination of she and had, so let's add another had to make it more dramatic. Remove the apostrophe and it reads, she had had. And believe me when I tell you there were actually instances where had had was used as a means to move the story along. It's a common flaw most writers experience, but if you're willing to make your living as a yarn spinner, you really should take pride in your work and make sure it's as slick as a newly frozen puddle so the readers can lose themselves in the suspense, action, and mystery and just go along for the ride.

As for the story, I found it compelling and well told (despite how it was written). With that said, I find it hard to give it a poor review, because it was a good book. I just wish aspiring authors (seasoned ones as well) would spend more time and take pride in their work. Not everyone is good with grammar. Some people find it too tedious to be bothered with, but an author who is selling books should be able to hire the services of a good proof reader.

I will be reading more of the Tracy Crosswhite books as well as others written by Mr. Dugoni in the future.

Description

The first book in the series that has garnered millions of readers across the globe, from New York Times bestselling author Robert Dugoni.

Tracy Crosswhite has spent twenty years questioning the facts surrounding her sister Sarah’s disappearance and the murder trial that followed. She doesn’t believe that Edmund House—a convicted rapist and the man condemned for Sarah’s murder—is the guilty party. Motivated by the opportunity to obtain real justice, Tracy became a homicide detective with the Seattle PD and dedicated her life to tracking down killers.

When Sarah’s remains are finally discovered near their hometown in the northern Cascade mountains of Washington State, Tracy is determined to get the answers she’s been seeking. As she searches for the real killer, she unearths dark, long-kept secrets that will forever change her relationship to her past—and open the door to deadly danger.

Gripping. Intense. Realistic. Had me hooked from page one and I didn't want to put it down!

Tracy Crosswhite has spent the last twenty years obsessing over the disappearance of her sister. Never truly believing that the man pegged for the crime was guilty, Tracy became a Seattle homicide detective, motivated to track down killers, including her sister's.

When Sarah's body is finally discovered, so too are facts and inconsistencies that make Tracy even more determined to find the answers that she seeks which puts her in harm's way as she uncovers secrets that were never meant to be unearthed.

Told between present day events as well as flashbacks, this story reads exactly like a thriller movie with the courtroom scenes reading like a Law and Order episode. It was absolutely engaging and enthralling and sucked me right in.

This story was intelligently told yet easy to follow. Dugoni did not create an overly complicated crime that made it hard to keep track of all the moving parts but he told a compelling story that kept me hooked until the very end.

I was very impressed with "My Sister's Grave" and I look forward to reading more of Dugoni's work in the future.

I have had this book on my to read list for over a year. It looked interesting and I think it was free on Kindle ( or like $1.00) But I kept passing it up when I chose a new book to read. Probably because it is the first book in the series and there are like 6 books in the series and I really did not want to get sucked into another series. But this year I have been trying to read a book that has been on my to read list for a while, and then a couple newer ones, and then back to an old lol
And I must say I am so glad I finally read this. This book was so good.

Tracy Crosswhite's sister Sarah disappeared 20 years ago. Convicted rapist Edmund House was convicted of her murder. Tracy has felt guilty for leaving her sister the day she disappeared and has spent the last 20 years trying to figure out what happened to Sarah and questioning the evidence that they had.
Tracy is now a homicide detective in Seattle and after 20 years Sarah's remains are finally found. And the evidence that is found in the grave with Sarah makes Tracy really question what happened and if Edmund House is really guilty. With the help of her childhood friend Dan (who is now a lawyer) Tracy sets out to open the case again and get the answers that Sarah deserves. But she may not like what she finds.

I loved the relationship between Tracy and Sarah. They were best friends. When the book opens it is 20 years later, but through flashbacks to their childhood we get to see their relationship.

I don't really want to say to much to spoil anything. But I will say that this book grabbed me from the beginning. It was fast paced, had me on the edge of my seat and even had tears at times (during the flashbacks to Tracy and Sarah). And the twist it took. Wow! Didn't except that at all.
Once I get myself caught up on my to read list (or semi caught up lol) I am definitely going to continue this series. I liked Tracy. I thought she was a touch cookie and cannot wait to read more of her.

This is one of the better books I've read recently. The writing flowed, the grammar was correct except where dialogue demanded that it not be, and the characters were complex and well-written. Being a story of a woman who helps get a new trial for a criminal thought to be her sister's killer, you knew going in that her sister's true killer would come after her at some point. It's all-but guaranteed, right? But the when and the how was astonishing; the depravities of a sick mind were not at all predictable for me, and I've read an outrageous number of "these books". I plan to read many more of Robert Dugoni's books, and especially the ones about Tracy Crosswhite. This author does not just fall back on the schlocky romance cliches for his female lead character. It's a rare pleasure to not know from the beginning whom she might fall in love with, and exactly how the book(s) will handle someone moving in with or marrying someone else. As a woman in law enforcement, she may be surrounded by men, but she doesn't need rescuing by any of them.

After watching a video of one of Dugoni's author events, I knew I had to read one of his books, so I downloaded My Sister's Grave. I'm glad I did because Dugoni's fast-moving story kept me riveted from first page to last. One of the things I liked most was the author's decision to let readers know very early on that there is some sort of conspiracy surrounding Sarah's death. This really ups the suspense and keeps readers wondering how many people are involved, their identities, how much they can be trusted (if at all)-- and just what exactly that they're covering up.

There were a couple of things that I didn't particularly care for: a romance for Tracy that wasn't really necessary, and all the drama coming to a head in the middle of a snowpocalypse, but these were minor annoyances that really didn't prevent me from turning the pages as fast as I could go.

Dugoni's characters come very, very close to stealing the show from his story. These people are not cardboard cutouts, even the murder victim whose light is just a brief shooting star in the night sky. Tracy can be admired for her dogged determination to find the truth and to demand justice, but how is she going to handle herself if any of her theories are wrong? Almost every single character is shown to have multiple facets, and that gives so much depth and power to a story.

Now that Tracy has finally solved her sister's murder, I'm looking forward to continuing this series. I have to know what's next for such an intelligent, stubborn woman.

I thought it was a decent story, a bit far fetched but good at making you suspect everybody. It is fiction, so I don't expect it to mirror reality. A bit typical police stereotype for the female detective's boss. Lawyer doing a tough case who doesn't do these type cases. The weather made me wonder if it was Washington state or Montana.. The future, past tense back and forth was handled well enough and added interest without being confusing. Although the way they used generators was confusing to me.

I read it in a day while down with a cold and found it kept my attention. It could have been a longer book and more developed I think. But then, I do like long books. I like that it wasn't a "happily ever after" run off and get married/have baby books. I mean is that all women fiction writers think we gals want? A man wrote this with a female protagonist. I think the ending mostly worked well and it HAD an ending which so many books don't have. This one didn't sum it up in 2 pages, it developed and finished.

There were a couple of editing errors that stood out. Early on she said Sarah yada yada, Sarah said. She meant.. Sarah, yada yada, Tracey said. Over use and incorrect use of the word "seen" toward the end. Nothing else glaring in my copy as others have noted in theirs, maybe it has been updated, that does happen. I'm not the grammar police looking for problems like some people, but I am well educated and well read, so like many find glaring ones ultra annoying.

I did enjoy the book and would read another from this author.

The Hedge Knight: The Graphic Novel (Game of Thrones)

The Hedge Knight: The Graphic Novel (Game of Thrones)

The Hedge Knight: The Graphic Novel (Game of Thrones)

The Hedge Knight: The Graphic Novel (Game of Thrones)

I was curious about this, but hey, it was Martin, a prequel to GOT, so why not?
And it's good.
You enter the world of the Hedge Knight, a sword for hire, the Ronin of Westeros. They sometimes thrive, sometimes starve, and are a minor part of the universe. We go into that portion, and see how they live, and die, as,we follow a young man trying to make it in the world. I truly enjoyed the realistic reenactment s of jousting and chivalry, you have a better idea of what it was like, the hopes, the life, the obstacles they faced. This is a much simpler plot than GOT, but 'tis the telling of the tale that shines.

Btw a good value too, much longer than most graphic novels.

Wow, such high quality for such a low price! I was pleasantly surprised to find out these were a lot thicker than I expected! I was expecting some sort of flimsy comic book type thing for such a low price...I was expecting to receive just "so-so" quality. I was fortunately wrong! I ordered both the Hedge Knigh I & II and found that they were both excellently made, with a very sturdy spine to the book and beautiful illustrations. These are going to be a gift for my boyfriend, as we're both huge GOT fans. I know he will love to add these to his collection. They are very well made and both shipped to me very quickly. Once again, I am pleased with my amazon.com purchases!

I'm not a regular reader of graphic novels. But I do love me some George R.R. Martin and his world in <i>A Song of Ice and Fire</i>.

This graphic novel aggregates 6 stand alone comics and makes for a beautifully rendered story that predates the activities that start with Martin's <i>A Game of Thrones</i>. The graphic novel is based upon Martin's own short story, and the narration and dialogue read very true to the nature of Martin's work and will be immediately recognizable for any fan of ASOIAF.

The art is very 'mature', bright, bold, detailed, descriptive and not cartoonish. Combined with the vivid coloring, the entire <i>Hedge Knight</i> 'package' does a terrific job evoking Martin's world.

I highly recommend this to any existing fan of AWOIAF or anyone who's interested in dipping their toe in a <i>Game of Thrones</i> without committing to a 1,000 page read. And if you're not into 'fantasy', there's no worries here. While there are references to dragons, the action is all medieval.

Never did I think this would be out in kindle for under $10. I have watched for used copies but they are more than a new Martin 1000 page novel. The artwork is great but it would be for naught without George Martin's story. This is like seeing a movie (which probably will follow or a miniseries) long before the rest of the audience does. The world is full of Targyrians then. Now they are down to one. Cannot recommend it stronger. Miss it and you miss part 1 of a 2 part (so far) adventure. Remember this eats up memory. Thank goodness for my 32 gig card...shu

Although I don't have the novels, this was a fantastic story and well worth the money! These could make for an interesting spin-off TV series if HBO & GRRM ever decided to. Inside, the art and colors are well done, with characters drawn looking more realistic. There is plenty of speaking and background given, so don't dismiss this as being a "picture book." I already want to re-read both Hedge Knight graphic novels to pick up more details I may have missed. There's a lot going on, and a lot of characters.

To all the reviewers who purchased this thinking it was the novel... and giving this bad ratings... how could you not see the words "graphic novel" in the product description?

Description

In this comic book/graphic novel adaptation set one hundred years before the events in George R.R. Martin’s epic fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Hedge Knight chronicles a young squire as he travels the cruel and complex path to knighthood in the Seven Kingdoms.

Shouldering his fallen master’s sword and shield, Duncan (or “Dunk") is determined to reinvent himself as a knight in a nearby tournament. But first Dunk needs a sponsor, and that requirement sends him down a road studded with friends, foes, adventure, and hidden agendas. One such friend is Egg, who becomes Dunk’s squire, yet even he may hold secret motivations of his own.

In this gripping prequel, Dunk and Egg seek glory in a world both familiar and new to Game of Thrones fans. What the two fortune seekers encounter, however, is a world of distrust and political machinations. Chivalry is not lost while Dunk holds fast to his dreams of honor. But such outdated virtues make him a target—and they may even lead to his ruin. This vivid and elaborately wrought tale brings new dimension to George R. R. Martin’s beloved world.

This edition includes fifteen pages of new supplemental material: sketches, character designs, and original pages by Mike S. Miller, plus variant and original covers.

Everything about these graphic novels is entertaining: The storylines are reminiscent of The Game of Throne novels, as these stories are prequels to those and are set in the lands of the seven kingdoms. The Art work is excellent and beautifully detailed. The characters take on an appealing realness, with genuine interactions, faults, emotions and strengths, which I would not expect from a graphic novel but then this was written by George R.R. Martin after all. I did find the second novel: The Sworn Sword Hedge Knight II to be somewhat more appealing then The Hedge Knight, but both are highly recommended.

When I first saw this listed I thought Martin had done the same thing Jordan had done with "New Spring", in other words I thought he had taken the awesome short story from "Legends" and expanded it into a longer novel forcing me to spend extra money even though I had already shelled out for "Legends".

Thanks to reading a couple of the reviews I learned I was horribly mistaken and had kept myself from enjoying an awesome story in comic form.

It is the exact same story from the short story "The Hedge Knight" but as every reader knows the change of mediums from prose to comic gives the reader a new experience. I would never say that one or the other is better, that is up to the reader, but I would definitely say it is a real treat to be able to switch between the two. The artwork is beatiful and true to story, and I didn't feel that anything was left out that had been in the short story.

My only disappointment is knowing they can't do the entire series in this form also.

I am not a fan of knights, I prefer barbarians and uncivilized heroes. Almost didn't get this, it stayed in my shopping cart for a month or more and I even removed it and re added it a couple times. Glad I gave it a chance. It's the best story I have read in a long time in any format novel or graphic novel. It is not your typical sword and sorcery fare it is done realistically and I loved it. Sir Duncan The Tall is my new favorite character. Great story, great art no fake and no filler.

Beautifully illustrated, and fairly complete story of a knight starting his journey.

As a side-note, don't bother trying to read this on an e-ink Kindle, though. I thought it would be really cool to try this out on my Kindle Touch, but it was just frustrating to navigate. Plus, some cells were cropped off in the zoomed view. Ultimately, I had to switch to a tables in portrait orientation and only zoom when absolutely necessary.

The story is easy to get into and the main character is likeable because he is simple, honest, and tries so hard to live up to the code of chivalry, which was engrained in him by the late Ser Arlan of Pennytree, who was also a hedge knight. The drawings are well done and the dialogue fairly easy to follow. My only warning would be about how the comic works on the Kindle app especially on a 7 inch tablet. It magnifies each frame, which is handy, but sometimes gets stuck on the frames, even though you've swiped it (telling it to go to the next frame). And sometimes it takes a while to load a page (everything is black). I used a Nexus 7 - so maybe it would work better on a Kindle reader.

Better quality than many pair of my High End $300+ Sunglasses!!!
I purchased these sunglasses for my very active 3 yr old son. I am blown away by the quality and thoughtfulness/ engineering of these sunglasses. The quality of the fitment, materials and lenses are better than many of the sunglasses I've owned and spent several hundred dollars for. I will be looking to purchase a pair of ATTCL for myself. The price is insane for these I had no idea this quality could be manufactured and sold for this price. 5 Stars all the way, you can not go wrong with these!

Fitment - Purchased these for my 3yr old son who has a larger head than average but had all the children in my family try them on. If your child is 2 - 10 years old (average head sizes) these will be a perfect fit.

Material - These are made with a very flexible plastic that has withstood my sons constant bending and pulling and are holding up amazingly (heavy use and still like new.)

Lenses- Awesome, polarized lenses. These ones do not distort the colors of whatever it is you're looking at. There is a slight tint in shade (so your eyes don't strain from brightness) but you get true colors and these are polarized lenses better than most high quality adult sunglasses.

This review is not exaggerated, I'm just that impressed with these sunglasses!!!

I ordered these from my son he's 9 years old he absolutely loves them. I pulled them out and stuck them on my head and he laughed and said those don't look good on you Dad and I stuck them back in the box and handed them to him and he said these are cool they're great little kid's glasses really good for the eyes nice quality Case quality construction

My 4 year old sons eyes are sensitive to bright sunlight. He absolutely loves these sunglasses! He's never been able to keep a pair longer than a week before losing them, but he takes such good care of these because they're his absolute favorite. He's proud of how he looks in them, and I'm happy they fit kids heads so well and that my sons eyes are getting the UV protection he needs. He always stores them in the case when not using them and keeps them clean with the included cloth.

These are great polarized glasses for a great price. They are a bit big for a child but not so big my son (who is 6 with a big head) can't wear them. Definitely suggest a good pair of croakies. The case they come with is good, not as sturdy as I would like for a pair of children's glasses but it is better than nothing.

My almost 5 year old fits perfectly in these sunglasses. He also loves the "test" that proves these are polarized, and loves having special sunglasses like Mom and Dad! Plus, the flexibility of the frames is great. Would definitely recommend these and I'll buy more when these inevitably get lost!

My 5 year old son and I love these glasses. They have a very nice polarized lense. We spend a lot of time doing water sports in the summer and snow sports in the winter. He kids have warn sunglasse since they were little and it is hard to find comfortable quality kids glasses that are affordable, these are the pair. We put a a piece of rubber surgical tubing (from the tackle box) on the back and the kids have not lost them! Also, these glasses came with a great storage case!

They were a gift for my 9 year old grandson. He's had them for almost a week, and they fit him well. He puts them back in their case, and cleans them with the provided cloth often. He has taken very good care of them so far, so that speaks to how much he really likes them. Good price, lightweight, and polarized...will buy again.

These are great! My 6 year old has a larger head and the arms on this are flexible and adjust to fit him comfortably. They do go beyond his ear, but they don't bother him and will probably fit for the next 2-3 years. I don't think I would say these fit a 3 year old....unless you have a very large child!! These came with a case and a cleaning cloth...for the price I'm very impressed.

It’s hard to find a pair that is both good and that my 8 year old will wear. This one is great looking on his face and good quality. The plastic is light enough to not bother him and the lenses are polarized which is what I wanted. I would buy again as needed. He loves the flashy colors. I think it’s even easier to find too! It also comes in a very nice case which he enjoys to have as well so that protects them well when not in use.

Wonderful quality! I really appreciate all the extras that came with the sunglasses; the case, cleaner wipe, tool, and bag. I would definitely recommend these! My five year old loves them, and she can really see a lot better with the polarization when we go fishing. They are a tad bit wide for her, but we don't open them completely before she puts them on and they stay snug. Also appreciate the flexibility of the stems for durability's sake. Great product!!

The Sworn Sword: The Graphic Novel (A Game of Thrones)

The Sworn Sword: The Graphic Novel (A Game of Thrones)

I'm a GOT/ASOIAF junkie, and had sought out the three "Dunk & Egg" stories in print after finishing "A Dance of Dragons." To be honest, it was "The Mystery Knight" (D&E #3) that got me to read "A Game of Thrones." I didn't even know it was a story in the same world until midway through, and by the end, I was hooked.

The 3 (so far) "Dunk & Egg" tales take place a few generations before the events of A Game of Thrones- and they cover life in the fall out of the Targaryen schism known as the "Blackfyre" rebellion. Long story short, some Targ bastards got legitimized upon their King/Father's death, and an uprising for the Iron Throne happened. The Blackfyres lost, leaving the question of "Did you support the Black or the Red [Dragon]?" to be a dangerous political statement in its own right.

15 years after that uprising, its affects are still felt across Westeros.

The first 2 Dunk & Egg tales were made into graphic novels, and these editions are great. #1, the Hedge Knight introduces you Dunk & Egg and #2, the Sworn Sword, is a bit of standalone adventure. From what I understand, George RR Martin has plans for more of these, and they tend to be a bit more stand-alone in nature than his other writing.

In short, if you like the politics and intricacy of Westeros, but long for something a little less grim (but no less bittersweet), READ THESE. Ser Duncan the Tall (Dunk) is what Sansa Stark would call a "true knight," and would make good pals with the likes of Ned Stark, Davos Seaworth, and Brienne of Tarth.

The graphic novel adaptation of the second of George R.R. Martin's Dunk & Egg novellas, not only stays true to the originally written story but gives it life with fantastic renderings of all the characters, the locales, and the action. Drawn by artist Mike S. Miller and livened by colorist Mike Crowell, "The Sworn Sword" gives both "Game of Thrones" book and show fans a great look into the history of the Seven Kingdoms as Ser Duncan (Dunk) the Tall and the future King Aegon (Egg) V learn about the greatest threat to the Targaryen throne nearly a century before Robert’s Rebellion—the Blackfyre Rebellion.

The story begins almost two years after "The Hedge Knight", Dunk and Egg are in the service to Sir Eustace Osgrey who holds a small tower but reminisces about his family’s ancient glory and his own immediate family’s misfortune. A nearly two year drought has gripped Westeros after the Great Spring Sickness—think the Black Death—resulting in water and people being short, which is when Ser Eustace’s stream disappears. After Dunk and another sworn sword, Ser Bennis, search upstream they discover that Ser Eustace’s neighbor Lady Webber has built a dam to divert the water. Soon things escalate and the two nobles begin to lob threats and promise blood vengeance as Dunk tries to find a way to make peace.

Of the work surrounding the graphic novel itself, I can only praise the work of Miller and Crowell who not only brought into visual life Dunk and Egg but so many other historically important characters in very consistent way throughout the entire book. It is hard to find fault with the work of these two men save with pointing out a few continuity errors, which unfortunately happen in every graphic novel. But when it came to the memories of Ser Eustace Osgrey about the Battle of the Redgrass Field that ended the threat of Daemon Blackfyre, the artwork is fantastic and brings the memories of the battle alive and giving justice to some of Martin’s best writing.

If you're a fan of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" world and haven't gotten this book yet I, what are you waiting for? I highly recommend this graphic novel adaptation of "The Sworn Sword" as well as the novella itself, you won’t be disappointed.

The Sworn Sword is the second in a novella series from the Game of Thrones author George RR Martin. This follows the story of Dunk and Egg, a knight and his squire, from the GOT world. I did not read the first story but I don't think it was necessary to follow this one. In typical Game of Thrones fashion, there's a lot of misogyny in this story as well as superstition, classism, violence, etc... Still, this isn't a bad story. I would probably give it a 3.5 overall, but I feel comfortable bumping it up to a 4 simply because I really enjoy the artwork. This isn’t a hard read, but it is a bit long, and that’s even considering that it’s a graphic novella. Still, I’m glad I read it.

Recommended to adult (and mature teen) fans of Games of Thrones, fans of knights tales, and comic book fans who like a bit of sword and sorcery.

This is a great interpretation of the novel written by George RR Martin. I've read the book as well and this graphic novel is almost exactly the same as the book. The only difference is that there are a few subtle things that can be lost in the comic, (eg. someone wearing fancy rich people clothes that just appear to be regular medieval clothes in the comic book.) Other than that, this graphic novel is great and can be enjoyed by all ages. As an adult, I love it and the content is fine for a kid too unlike the other GoT books. This book takes place a hundred years before the GoT a Song of Ice and Fire series takes place. The content is much less mature in that it lacks the sex, violence, and incest of the other series. There are lots of tourneys and knights though which is great. Also you get to see more Targaryens before they became nearly extinct.

The second graphic novel in the Dunk and Egg series, and an interesting on in what it sets up for both Ser Duncan and Aegon. The Red Window story is actually fairly trivial and somewhat predictable, but it enables Martin to give some necessary character development as well as background to the Blackfyre rebellion, which is of much more importance to the "Song of Ice and Fire." These Dunk and Egg stories are interesting in the world-building they give in the background as well as insights into political situation before Robert's rebellion.

Description

In this comic book/graphic novel adaptation set one hundred years before the events in George R.R. Martin’s epic fantasy series, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Sworn Sword follows the adventures of Ser Duncan and his squire, Egg, as they quest for honor and glory in the Seven Kingdoms.

After the deaths, surprises, and heroics in The Hedge Knight, Dunk and Egg continue their journey in search of the fair puppeteer Tanselle. Along the way, the elderly knight Ser Eustace takes both men under his charge, alongside another knight—and this one promises trouble. Peace is ever elusive for Dunk and Egg, as they are soon embroiled in the schemes of local nobility, while a darker, greater thread threatens to unravel long-held truths of the Battle of Redgrass Field.

In classic George R.R. Martin fashion, heroes and villains are never clear-cut, and political alliances threaten to slice the deepest. Yet one path lies ahead for Dunk and Egg: onward toward destiny. Join them as they venture along a now-familiar world but in a time all-new!

Collecting The Hedge Knight II: The Sworn Sword #1-6, this special edition comes packed with over twenty-five pages of bonus material!

The illustrations are great, story is deep and has the GRRM twist on everything. What made me laugh is I was watching Season 4 of GoT and Joffrey was looking at the book of the great men of the Kings Guard and mentioned Sir Duncan the Tall, "4 pages on his deeds, thats impressive" he said. Thats the character that this graphic novel series is about so I thought that was pretty cool. There was also another GoT episode where a character mentions certain Knights that sleep under Hedges or by Hedges (The Hedge Knight), clearly a little nod to the graphic novels as well. Well done GRRM well done.

George R R Martin has been slipping us bits of Ser Dunk and Egg, so you may well be familiar with this prequel to Game of Throwns/Fire and Ice.

Drawings in the excellent style adorn many of the Westeros guidebooks and fan wikis, so you may already know their charm - it takes quite a it of charm, visual imagination, to keep up with the HBO special effects, platoons of bare breasted actresses and also a number of excellent actors.

But these graphic novels could stand alone, independent of the books and the seasons of TV. Perhaps the males have the de rigeur ultra defined musculature, and Dunk's love interests are tall and independent and even stronger than in Lake Woebegone - but the graphics truly put you in the Seven Kingdoms.

As I said in "The Hedge Knight" graphic novel review, this is a fantastic read! We follow "Dunk" and "Egg" on another adventure in the land of Westeros. I'll post my Hedge Knight review below since the same applies to this:

Although I don't have the novels, this was a fantastic story and well worth the money! These could make for an interesting spin-off TV series if HBO & GRRM ever decided to. Inside, the art and colors are well done, with characters drawn looking more realistic. [And the same artists who did the work on "The Hedge Knight" are back for this -- thankfully!] There is plenty of speaking and background given, so don't dismiss this as being a "picture book." I already want to re-read both Hedge Knight graphic novels to pick up more details I may have missed. There's a lot going on, and a lot of characters.

The 2nd book of the series "The Hedge Knight" is a very interesting tale of a Knight named "Sir Dunkin The Tall", who travels with his companion, Egg. As a hedge knight, they travel the fantasy continent of Westeros, often times running into trouble of their own and taking service for Lords who live within the Kingdom of which Sir Dunkin serves; in this age before the current events of A Song of Ice and Fire/ Game of Thrones, and about 200 years before Roberts Rebellion, this is just an amazing spin off to the classics of R.R. Martins work. I enjoyed this read, the pictures are a work of art, and the story behind the story is addictive in its own right when it comes to details about this fairytale kingdom. Only problem I have is that it's too short. (Still took me a little over a couple hours to read.)

Everything about these graphic novels is entertaining: The storylines are reminiscent of The Game of Throne novels, as these stories are written as prequels to those and are located in the seven kingdoms.
