These are perfect for my new 3 year old. She loves them, and they're easy to move around. We use them with a big doll house. The faces were kind of boring in my opinion, so I added vinyl and used Modge Podge to add character. I did the same with the Caucasian family. I wanted my daughter to have both families to add some diversity to her doll house.
We have the doll family pictured and love them so much. My 2 year old granddaughter's favorites are Grandpa and Baby. This is one of only a few brands which have a 7 member set that includes grandparents and a baby.
Be aware, however, that a truer picture of the set - "variation" - you may receive, while AA, will look more like the picture for the Doll Family of 7 Caucasians, because that is the clothing set they may have, and because of many differences in the paint and shape of the dolls. The clothing difference is easy to see. The shape difference is not. I have seen them both together though and saw that the "variation" is much cruder in features and the baby has a much clunkier shape and inappropriately longer arms.
To me, they were not at all as appealing. To me the clothing was not as lovely on almost every doll and mama Afro-American doll not as identifiable as a mom because her hair was very short plus no skirt.
The company which originates these sets told me that they were unavailable for a long time, but they finally got them back. My guess is that they found a company to copy the old style ones but they didn't have the same good taste as the original producer.
I ordered the family in the photo twice, (the older family) and was sent the newer family, not pictured, twice, even though I'd made it clear I wanted the one in the photo. I gave feedback twice about the inaccurate picture, and got back messages twice saying We've determined that we don't have to change the photo.
Then the item page had a message saying There's a problem, we're temporarily not offering this item. This was changed to the page you now see, which says you may get a "variation".
I just wanted you to know. It made a difference to me; to you, it may not.
In order to get the set I wanted, I phoned around and found a large toy store with a branch in a nearby city which had ONE of the old style families left and sent it to my local shop for me. A bit more expensive than Amazon, but able to give more personal service: could check their stock and help me get the one I wanted!
Amazon had a better price and tried to help; the customer service phone helpers in India tried their best, but apparently a huge company with multiple locations, can't give you the same service.
I love the look of the family as we wanted an ethnically diverse doll family for our two sons to play with. I will say that I was not entirely pleased with the quality as there were a lot of hot glue strings and the hair was haphazardly glued onto the grandfather. The hair strings also come out very easily for what is a children's toy. The grandmother on our set had a crack in her head and a dirt smudge on her hair, therefore, I contacted KidKraft about a replacement. They shipped out another grandmother free of charge however she was very different from the original and her skin color was a completely different shade of brown than the rest of the family. Her face style and clothing were also completely different than what is pictured. I ended up sticking with the original so that she matched the rest of the family. Otherwise, I am pleased with my purchase.
My preschool class received an old Plan Toys wooden doll house with furniture but no people. I purchased this and they work perfectly. My preschoolers adore them and will play for hours with it. They have lasted a week so far, will update with how they hold up.
I'm surprise how well these dolls hold up. I'm a psychotherapist, who works with a ton of kids in a day, and somehow these dolls are destructive. I've even had kids throw them across the room and they manage to hold themselves together during the launch. They're very durable, and work well with different doll houses, plus you can't beat the price.

Got a KidKraft dollhouse and I want to get an African American family because ( obviously). It's a whole family including grandparents they are a little small for the KidKraft houses Barbies can actually fit in the house but my daughter is not into Barbies yet. I'm very happy with my purchase
They are the right size for my doll house. Very sturdy, they are often beaten up and thrown around by active kids. The clothes are on the bodies to stay which is a good thing. 700+/- kids in my school use these nearly every time anyone comes into my office. Occasionally, the wires have come out of the body but I have clothespin 'crutches' for use when that happens. I have a multi-ethnic family in my dollhouse and many of the kids in my very white community remark upon it but with increasingly less surprise. I'll buy more of the same when and if I need to.
This is a fantastic set to add to the other dolls we have of different nationalities. We are now able to put all kinds of people into families and to play so many more ways than when we had only one set of "peachy" skin tones. This is a sweet and durable set to use alone or with other wooden dolls.
I bought these for my 4 year old to use in her doll house. These are PERFECT! I love that they are not run of the mill plastic dolls! They bend nicely for playing and are very durable.
I bought this family for a doll house that I refurbished for my 2 year old daughter. Their simplicity makes them adorable. They are easy to pose as far as I and my 5 year old neighbor are concerned, but it's taking my 2 year old a little time to learn how to pose th3m to sit in the furniture she has. They do holdup well to the bending. Would certainly recommend.
