This stuff is all you need , I had nitrate problems I couldn't get them down they were running about 5 witch os orange on my test kit it should be yellow . Was using Rox .08 carbon witch is about 50. dollars a gallon at BRS & phosguard my phosphate levels were about .05 to .1 with a Hanna checker . then I started using Purigen and my nitrate's read 0. every time I check them and my phosphate also read 0 on Hanna checker witch reads real low phosphate's . My next move is to remove the phosguard and then check in every few days to make sure it doesn't go up then I will quit using that also , Just use Purigen alone . you can also regenerate it 10 times using clorox & water 50 / 50 then use prime the next day to get the clorox completely out . This stuff does the job better than anything I could find on the market .
This stuff works great and last's seemingly forever when cleaned like recommended. Use in 90 gal. African Cichlids, 75 gal. Midas Cichlid, 55 gal. Freshwater Tropical and 20. gal Betta and Cory Cats. Will buy more but not for a long time. A side note: Original order never arrived. Called C/S they sent another and I got it the next day. Very Happy with Amazon!
Best filtering medium I've ever used. Put this in a Hagen AquaClear 50 Nylon Bag (on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002DHQR0/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_27 ), then into my outside filters. Water is crystal clear. With monthly rinses (leaving it in the bag, and just rinsing under the tap in the kitchen sink) I haven't had to change the Purigen in over 6 months.

Love this stuff. Definitely some of the best filter media available. I use it on all my tanks. It even helps keep my turtle pond crystal clear, and turtles are super messy.
This stuff is like magic... clears any tank in no time. Also its rechargeable so you can use over and over again. I use this in all my Discus tanks. I would never use carbon in a Discus tank but I would recommend Purigen any day!
