I'm not sure why Oster claims on this product page that this particular air fryer has a "large capacity" and will "Feed the whole family". No, you really do need a larger capacity air fryer for more than two people. You want to feed a family of four--even if you are just talking steak fries--you need an air fryer with a 5 to 6 quart capacity. You will be sorry if you get anything less. Now, as a decent, sturdy, compact air fryer for one or two people, this is a great choice.
You scoff at me suggesting that this is a "compact" air fryer? Sorry to tell you, any air fryer, any size, is still a large, space-consuming counter appliance. You will have to find a special place to keep any air fryer. They don't fit easily on cabinet shelves--not even this small-capacity one.
Deciding on capacity: One must remember that pieces of food should not be mounded on top of one another. If you stack pieces on top of each other, expect to do a lot of in and out with the drawer, shaking and tossing to expose all the surfaces. The diameter of this basket is 8". So ask yourself this question, and go through this mental visual before you buy: How do you roast your potatoes in the oven? On a roasting pan? How large is that roasting pan? How many quartered/halved potato wedges can you place in a single layer in the bottom of an 8" pan? How does that amount compare with what you usually make in your oven?
I have two other air fryers, both over 5 quart capacity. I bought my first here on Amazon and was not satisfied with it. All the features I did not like in that first air fryer, I can say I am satisfied with in this smaller Oster model:
--This Oster has good air flow: You need good air flow so that the heat can circulate. The better the air circulates, the crisper the outside of your food will be.
--This Oster is very sturdy., The drawer needs to slide in and out easily. The handle needs to be sturdy to make sliding in and out easier. The parts of the drawer and the inside basket need to fit together well and tightly. This is important to making it easier to clean. You don't want gunk building up in corners and tight places. This Oster is well-designed, and there is nothing rickety about how it's put together. (When moving the drawer/basket assembly in and out of my other two air fryers, I feel like the pieces are going to come loose--especially the handles....)
--This Oster is quieter than the other two machines I have.
--The basket in this Oster model has a better quality non-stick surface. And it seems to hold heat better.
--Do not insist on digital. Digital is usually good for pre-programmed cycles or times. I have not yet found an air fryer with useful pre-programming. There are too many variables to deal with: Quality of food and size of pieces to mention two main variables. Truly, I have found self-managed dials to work the easiest. Pre-programming is for when you want to walk away from an appliance for a good length of time. You do not really want to walk away from an air fryer. You do want to take a peak inside every so often, to gauge if you need to toss the food around or adjust the time or temp.
Here is a tip: I'm not sure about reviewers saying that it's okay to use a non-stick spray like Pam in your air fryer basket. All the books I've read say not to do so. (Probably for the same reason that it is aid that Pam is not good for using in your non-stick pans--it gums up the surfaces.) You will probably want to buy a spray bottle that will spray oil. I've not found a air-pump mister that works efficiently. And, not all spray bottles will pump oil. (If it sprays water to your satisfaction, believe me, it will not spray oil!)
For certain foods--potato wedges, eggplant pieces, winter squash--I find a baggie with a tablespoon of oil and a good shake to work well, too. You will use a spray bottle if you are serving breaded foods. You will place the pieces, breaded, in the basket, then spray the pieces with oil.
I really like the fryer but the reason for 4 stars is because I wish there was an option to use only the bottom to cook with. Also the fryer could be a little deeper or shorten the metal grill since when putting food on the metal grill it seems way too close to the heating element even with things that are flat. Cleaning up is easy and I have used the fryer almost every day. The quality of the buttons don't seem good but so far have been ok. No problems with the ceramic coating so far.
UPDATE Dec. 9, 2018. So far everything has been alright with the fryer. It cooks bacon good just by puting the bacon in the pan. I also make homemade biscuits in 8 minutes! I am happy with the purchase and would much rather have this fryer than the other types of fryers. One thing is that it may be a little hard to put this on the counter and open it up under the top cabinets. I have the fryer in a place that i dont have cabinets above though. I will update should anything bad happen in the future.
I was not expecting much from this unit. I've never tried air frying and I was skeptical. Boy was I wrong! I cooked up chicken wings with zero oil! Just a bit of cooking spray in the tray and that's it. The chicken turned out really crispy and moist. I'm really amazed. The unit is well designed, easy to clean and looks sharp.
Ok just started using this and I gotta say I love this product. First off it doesnt use much oil fries come out crispy on the outside and good on the inside unlike a standard frier that can over cook fries and who likes that. This product will do more than fry and I look so forward to doing more and more it has so many possiblitys so many things I will be able to do with it. It will cook whole chickens no more buying the ones pre cooked from the store I can make that sucker myself. It has a grill for steaks or hamburgers the possibley of things in this are endless, WIth summer upon us I will not be using my big oven and heating up the house oh no Im using this puppy than you Oster for making this awsome product.
I've been using a De'Longhi Multi air fryer for over a couple of years, which runs at over twice the price of this Oster, but have to say I'm impressed with this entry level model.
Like all things, you will use it a lot, then less and less as the novelty wears off, but I think this will continue to be out and used because it is so simple.
It's 14 x 11 x 13 inches so not overly large footprint on your kitchen counter.
It has also a more limited range than some of the other multi cooker / air fryer types.
That said, it couldn't be easier to set up and use, for example - yellow skin potatoes, quartered, 2 tablespoons olive oil, salt & pepper or other seasoning, set to 400 for 25 minutes - wow crispy raosted potatoes, with soft fluffy centers.
Far healthier than regular deep frying or even pan frying I suspect.
Great for grilled styled vegetables, chicken, and especially wings - there are plenty of options.
Clean up is easy too as the whole cook pan lifts out for cleaning.
I think the copper infusion does make the unit run a little hotter for better results than my other machine, but the non stick also works well.
I think if you are unsure about buying an air fryer and don't want to spend too much, this is a great place to start.

I already had a different brand AF that started falling apart before a year. My husband did his research and surprised me with the Oster Dura. I am happy with it after only 2 weeks. Bacon cooks beautifully as does everything else I’ve tried. Clean up is a snap, something I can’t say about the other AF I have.
I haven’t come to a clear conclusion on whether the rotating aspect is a must have feature.
I had wanted an air fryer for some time; however, I have birds and needed one that was PTFE/PFOA free and finally found one with this one. I am very happy with how it works, it's size is perfect for our use. Thanks Oster for providing an air fryer that does not put toxic fumes into the air!
This Air Fryer is amazing for anything you want to eat! Me and my partner are vegan and we made amazing fried glazed tofu in our Air Fryer this week! They came out crispy and delicious and we are planning on trying onion rings soon! This has made are dinners easy to make on hard work nights. The only thing that is a downside to this amazing product is that it takes up a lot of room on our countertop, otherwise I would recommend this product to anyone who is wanting a new way of cooking food and making anything taste delicious!
It was so hard to find an air fryer that didn't have a horrific nonstick lining! This copper infused ceramic lining is great! I've been enjoying using it, my only complaint is that it's been setting off the fire alarm in my little apartment unless I open all the windows and doors when I use it!
I had the flu and had to force myself to eat, but sure didn't feel like it. This was a life saver. Yes, it was fries and chicken strips, but I got food in me and it was fast and easy. Clean up was a wipe with a paper towel. I haven't had it long, plus having the flu hasn't allowed me to experiment, but what I have done is awesome. I always choose Oster products. I love the way it's sort of tilted, even in the level position and the bowl rotates. I did try the tilt at first and didn't see the point. Maybe for stir fry veggies. We'll see.
