Diggin Black Max Football Toy, Black and Green

This is a great football for kids (including kids and adults. I have bought three. It is "nerf-like" spongy material with a rubber middle band that gives it some weight and allows for throwing great spirals for much long distances than I expected. Its 8-1/4 inches long with a 16 inch circumference. Very comfortable to grip and throw. I have found them to be very durable but they are nerf-like and won't last forever. We put a lot of muscle into the throws and they have all lasted longer than I expected. One of ours died at the dog park after one of the pups got a hold of it and wouldn't let go which wasn't the football's fault. One died by ripping under the middle band, but again we got our value out prior. We have used this extensively on concrete, a few times at the beach, and also at the park. We keep it out of water. Fun times. I would not hesitate to buy this again.

This ball throws and catches so easily, and is heavy enough to be used on a breezy day. If you play on a driveway or blacktop, expect the outer surface to get chewed up faster than pump-up leather or synthetic balls. That's a trade off of the soft easy to catch ball. It is curiously easy to throw a perfect spiral. The scientist in me took the weighted ring off of the middle, and the ball still threw perfect spirals. Just saving you the trouble of the same experiment... You're welcome.

The easiest and best throwing foam football out there. Way better than the POOF brand. NERF moved to models that are encased in rubber tips and frames around them, but the down side is if the kids get hit by them, it hurts.

The Diggin football is soft foam except for a green rubber ring that runs along the outside. Between the weight of the denser black foam and the ring, it is weighty enough to be stable in flight. The foam part is also firm enough to grip well enough to throw without having to crush it. The size is a little smaller than the POOF and NERF, but this is perfectly fine for younger kids learning to throw. Durability is above average for a foam ball. Ruff asphalt will still tear it and other foam balls up, but that's the nature of the material.

We are a family of six who likes to play outside a lot. When the kids want fun, but we don't want to go far, I chuck this at one of them and we head outside to play. It is a lot of fun, easy to throw and catch, but I wish it were a bit sturdier. The green ring around the ball can come loose, and the material is a bit spongy, which causes it to be a bit soft, which in turn makes it a bit flimsy. We have to repurchase every six months or so, but we continue doing it because it's our favorite ball ever! If it lasted longer, I would give it 100 stars if I could.

The material is a dense (but very soft) foam with a rigid plastic ring around the center.

Likes:
- Soft enough to minimize complaints and crying due to the eventual bump to the head, face, body or finger jam
- Rigid enough to provide a stable throw - nearly anyone cat get a spiral, and this boosts confidence for kids
- Dimples provide ample grip
- Price point is good enough to burn through a couple of these. Eventually, given the benefits listed above, you should be able to migrate to a Pop Warner size football.

Con:
- Tendency to build up pine needles and other debris on the surface. You have to constantly wipe the surface down to get things unstuck from the surface

Description

Black Max Football

My 8 yr old boys are able to throw this football farther and with a tighter spiral. Overall it's a good football for kids learning to throw and especially those nervous to catch harder balls. Also helps with children's confidence n throwing when they see how well they can throw this ball. Only issue we see is the durability. I do understand it's a foam football but we have owned various other foam balls that were able to last a bit longer. With that being said I do believe this football last long enough that it is well worth purchasing. I would suggest keeping it over grass or softer surfaces.

This is our third Black Max Football in about 4 years, and we've also bought several as gifts. This is by far the easiest football for a kid to throw and catch. I have so much fun with my son tossing this football. We even take it to the beach, although it's a little tougher to catch when it's wet and slippery. Over time, the smooth outside rubs away, but this doesn't impact it too much. We're pretty rough on the footballs, as we throw them a lot and they often end up in the bushes and trees. Great price for such a fun toy.

The reviews are very accurate, excellent ball, great weight, and throws like a miracle.

Ordered on Friday, showed up on Saturday!! The color is attractive and cool for a 6-10 year old. Bought this for a neighbor kid who has a little trouble with full size footballs. In fact, I could throw it with perfect spiral while holding a beer or scotch (15 year macallan).

We use this during neighbor play in the street nights. We have that kind of street where everyone comes out front and enjoys fall and winter months!

As footballs go, this is smaller and lighter. If you are looking for regulation play type ball, then put down your scotch and order something else :-). If you want smiles all around, games of $5 while sipping , then this is your ball.

I was a bit skeptical after reading all the rave reviews, but this ball lives up to the hype. The spiral ring really does help small hands grip the ball and throw it farther. Plus the added weight gives you more distance without sacrificing the softness at the points. Let's face it, kids (and adults sometimes) are known to catch it with their face! If there is any downside to this ball I'd have to say that it's not ideal for punting, and my soccer playing sons seem to have their footballs on their feet as often as their hands. But the main selling point of this ball is how well it throws, and I have been beyond impressed at how well it does that.

I was looking for a fun Nerf style football to throw around with my kids, aged 4 and 6. We didn't have a football to play with so I was looking for something that would be soft and safe to play with as a family. I found the Black Max football listed on Amazon and liked the idea of a football with dimples, and a ring in the center that helps with the spiral. Now that I have it, I really enjoy playing with it and my kids are leaning to throw a football. It's will even be fun for adults to throw around. One concern I have with it is durability - Not that it won't be durable for regular use - But my dog likes to play catch and I could see her thinking this is her ball. If that day comes this thing will be a goner, for sure.
