After only using this about 4 times the front plastic on the light has melted. Also the power adapter tends to get very hot during operation. The light still works but this has left me feeling that I need to very closely watch this product due to the heat issues. See photo attached. I am disappointed because my wife really needs this therapy light and I can't trust it. The plastic cover is now actually touching the LEDs.
Update: The company has reached out to me to resolve my issues by sending me a new light.
After doing hoursof research on light therapy lamps & devices to help me with my Circadian rhythm disorder (my day’s & nights were Reversed) I found this light has the best feature and price. When it arrived I only used it for 15 minuets a day for the 1st week, then 20 for 3 day’s until I was at 30 minuets a day. The very 1st night around midnight I was sleepy, I went to bed thinking I would wake up in an hour or so...imagine my delight when I woke up at 7:30 AM! While there are still 1 or 2 days a week where I sleep all day & I’m awake until the wee hours of the morning it is still a great improvement! On the days I sleep late I only use the light for 5 or 10 minuets to really wake myself up so that I’m able to go to sleep earlier. Reversing a circadian disorder is a process but I am committed to reversing mine and having my day in the sun.
First time reviewing a project, but this one deserves it. It has actually changed my life. I struggled with SEVERE insomnia for over a year. I finally met the right doctor who suspected I was just struggling with a very delayed circadian rhythm and told me to get a light like this one. I use it for about 30 minutes right when I wake up. Within two weeks I was off Ativan and actually getting some of the best sleep of my life. Hands down, it's the most impactful $70 I've spent. (I can't speak to it's abilities to minimize seasonal affective disorder, although I know many people use it for that purpose as well.)
While I'm sure any light similar to this one would have done the same, I like this light in particular. Its well made, light weight, and moves into a variety of positions, which is helpful when I switch between using it at the table, sofa, bed, etc. It is a little top heavy, as others have noticed, but my cat has knocked it over about a dozen times already and it is still working fine. The only con is that my light does not work with batteries -- needs to be plugged into the wall to work and the cord isn't terribly long. Depending on where you want to use it, you might need an extension cord.
Bottom line: If you suspect you have insomnia caused by a circadian rhythm disorder, TRY THIS LIGHT. If it doesn't work for you, you're only out $70. If it works, it can change everything. (PS. All my own opinions, I'm not associated with this company or in contact with them whatsoever.)
So this light no longer is rechargable, here is what the customer service representative told me when I asked about this. "We apologize for the confusion but we have phased out the rechargeable battery on our lamps a few months ago. We removed the battery because the lamp becomes dimmer when it is battery operated (and not plugged in), and we did not want to compromise the 10,000 lux brightness which determines the effectiveness of the lamp as a light therapy product.
We made edits to our marketing material to reflect the change but we couldn't remove the reviews. We are sorry for the confusion. " They were very helpful and prompt with their responses.
This lamp is very bright and compact. I use it at work and it seems to help some work with mood elevation due to SAD.
I have struggled with SAD ever since I moved to Seattle but this year has been particularly difficult. I was worried that this small light wouldn’t work for me. Boy was I wrong! The first day I used it I felt like I’d drank a whole pot of coffee. I was so hyper I couldn’t sit down. My house was very clean that day. The hyper activity along with some eye strain and moderate headaches lasted a couple of weeks while my brain got back to normal. Now I feel great every day. I have loads of energy and sleep well every night.
I use it for about an hour each morning. I love that it’s so adjustable. I can get it in just the right spot. The sun sets very early here in midwinter (4 pm or earlier) so I’ve also been doing another half hour around sunset to keep my brain in the right schedule. Some days I’ll use it more or less depending on how dark it is outside. When I do put it away I love that it folds down compactly with the light protected. I would feel comfortable traveling with it if need be. I’m so pleased with this product. It’s well made, it works well as a therapy light, and I it was worth every penny.

I purchased this product based on a detailed review by another customer who did an extensive comparison and am very pleased with my purchase. I have had a couple of other full-spectrum lights in the past, and this one exceeds the results I've had with prior lights. From the first day, I have noticed increased alertness immediately after use. I live in the midwest, and we have many cloudy days in the winter months. This light has definitely helped to boost my energy and my mood. Thank you, Circadian Optics, for providing such a high quality light for a reasonable price!
I love this light it is so easy to use and it does the job I need it to do. I need the light for SAD and it is a very good light for the money, and it works very well. It also folds up so that it does not take up all my space on the desk just for it. I am able to sit there with it on for the period that I need it on and then I can fold it up and it compliments the rest of the things that I have on the desk. It looks like the other technology that I use. I love it. If you need something for SAD and you’re looking for something that doesn’t cost a small fortune, and blast your eyes out, this light is the light for you. Just use it for a little bit and then you are done. But do as the directions say, don’t try to treat yourself, without the aid of a doctor or therapist first. They can tell you the best way to use one of these lights, and the benefits of using them, as well as some of the harm they can do. Yes, sitting there for hours waiting for it to work is going to make you sick and make it seem not to work. It takes just 15-30 minutes a day usually for about a week before you really see the effects, but then they start stacking up.
I really like how this has a very small footprint. I put it on my bedside table and turn it on when my alarm goes off and I sit up and watch the morning news. I've only had it a few days, but I do seem to be feeling more awake when I get to work. It used to take me until lunch time until I felt like I was really with it, and now I feel like I'm fine as soon as I get there. For me that's worth the price.
This light therapy is AMAZING!!! if you have a hard time on rainy or cloudy days where you get depressed or the blues, this is wonderful! When the time just springed forward recently this was a life saver for me trying to reset my schedule waking up at 4am. i just turn it on when i wake up in the morning, and after about a week, i was back to automatically waking up without my alarm on time.I LOVE this lamp! I also turn it on sometimes in the afternoon when i start to get a bit drowsy at my desk, and it wakes me up as if though i've walked outside in the sunshine! A+ from me :)
This unit is very durable, as I've already dropped it a few times and the light still works without flaw. Also, the plastic encasement has no scratches or any visible indication of being dropped. The booklet says the LED (light) will last 50,000 hours.
The on/off "switch" is a touch sensitive place on the inside bottom of the lamp, so there is no mechanical button to press or knob to turn.
When looking at other models for the same 10,000 LUX (illumination capabiliity), the difference is the shape and/or dimentions. This unit is small enough to use on an end table, desk, or even to sit on a chair. Little instruction booklet says the same usage directions that our doctor gave us - use up to one hour (per day).
This company has been in business for many years. We purchased a light about 10-12 years ago, and it was still working when we lost it.
