i don't normally make reviews on things like this. i consider most of this stuff disposable parts. that said this cord has to be one of the best made i have seen in years. heavy grade wire and quality connectors on the ends. the socket end holds tight and the plug has very good tension to hold tight. i was actually VERY surprised at the build quality put into this.
I was actually surprised at the quality of this extension cord. I don't use it often but when I have had to it as been good. It doesn't get hot and it doesn't cause my units air compressors and such to get hot either. This is the thickest gauge wire that I could find however I haven't cut it open to look inside. But things are not getting hot so that's a good indicator..
Thanks to all who left reviews here! As is often the case on Amazon, there were a lot of choices and options for a product like this, and I appreciate all who took time to share their experience.
I'd say this is possibly more cord than I needed, but I'd much rather err on the side of it being too sturdy, than too flimsy, and, definitely, there is nothing at all flimsy about this cord. It is a seriously beefy cord, which makes it a little on the stiff side and, at twelve feet, it's more length than I thought I'd need, but, as I say, I would prefer to have more of what I need, than less.
As it turns out, although I purchased it for some tuning electronics I use in my car and really didn't need more than maybe five feet of extension (so I just spool up the extra and tie it, to keep out of my way), that extra length came in quite handy when I used the cord to power up my Fix A Flat kit, on my brother's car, when he got a flat and didn't have his spare tire. The cord on the Fix A Flat compressor ran a bit short, so this was perfect to give plenty of length for filling up the back tire.
While there are a lot of options on here, for such cords, this is one where the difference is made in the quality. I've looked at some cords at various auto stores, and haven't liked the flimsy look of them, which was why I hadn't bought one until now, and I'm glad this is the one I picked.
I've used the cord many times now, and even have a mount location for it, for when I am using my track computer (adding extra length so the cord to the computer is not strained, in connecting to its windshield mounted unit). The connections at each end are rock solid, the cord itself is, as I say, very heavy duty, and, all in all there is just nothing but great things to say about this.
Very affordable, considering the high quality. This cord will likely outlast my car!
Pros:
- Heavy Duty
- Solid Connections
- Quality Build
- Carries Required Voltage
- Plenty of Length
Cons:
None. But, keep in mind, since it is a solid cord, it's not very flexible, and it does take up a bit of space.
For me, I just kept the sturdy box it came in, and I just use a cord wrap and keep it in the box, in my trunk, so it's out of the way and not making a mess, and is just there for when I need it.
All in all, a great product at a great price!
Highly recommend!
I purchased a lesser expensive 12v extension while on the road and was not pleased. The Bestek 12V is of a quality is is far superior and durable. I'm using this extension to power my Blue Ox Patriot Braking system in my Wrangler. I would highly recommend this product and complement Bestek for developing a reasonably priced option that is, IMHO, best in class
This is a very heavy duty and good quality12 feet long extension cord that looks like 12 AWG or slightly larger wire as others have mentioned. The high current capacity for a very heavy duty cord of this type has another benefit of delivering higher voltage to moderately heavy loads like a portable air compressor. Smaller wire size power cords like common 16 gauge power cords will get warm and not deliver full power to moderate loads. Even a 14 gauge extension cord is a rare item, so this even heavier than 12 AWG power cord is a very rare and special item. The power cord is deliberately not fused in the plug because a fuse operating at near the rated capacity would run hot inside the close quarters of the plug. An outboard in-line fuse could be added a couple of inches away from the plug if it is wanted by anyone to splice in a fuse holder. To confirm the plug is not fused the plug was opened and inspected and photographed to show the direct connections of the 12 AWG conductor wires to the plug side contact spring leaves and spring loaded tip button. Connections were found to be shiny good quality solder joints, and the entire power extension cord appears to be very well made. Attached photos show the inside of the power plug. I wish I could obtain some of the bare plugs alone for use in making up other custom power cords for specialty use, for example with SAE connector ends, and using the more flexible audio speaker cable for custom equipment power cords. The unfused heavy duty plug that BESTEK is using on this extension cord is itself a rare item. If there is a way I can get a few of the bare plugs alone I want them and welcome a BESTEK rep to contact me.

Very sturdy - I plugged it in yesterday for the first time and it worked well. It will hope fully last much longer than the other model I purchased from another seller on Amazon. However, the other seller upon hearing that their was no longer functional gave ms a credit on the spot. Had they had another model, I'd have purchased from them. This one isn't quite as long as m y original purchase but I think it will be adequate. I use it to plug in my 12v Norcold freezer in our RV so I can plug it into the cigarette lighter and keep it under the bed for stowing when asleep. Very handy item and very well made.
Perfect for what I needed which is the Rova VIVA Alexa enabled device for cars. The Rova would not fit into my cigarette lighter but with this extension the Rova fits in the end of it so problem solved. Perfect solution.
Very high quality overall. The wire is nice and heavy and can handle significant current. The male plug end fits very snuggly into the lighter receptacle, which is very important as some poorly designed ones will creep back, away from maintaining a tight connection. Not so with this one. It stays pugged in night and tightly.
Even though the cord is long, the voltage drop (which is unavoidable when sending DC through wires) is minimal. I was prepared to shorten the length of the wire in order to minimize voltage drop but found that I did not have to because the drop was negligible as measured on my meter. I expected a significant drop and was very please to see how little drop there was. Other cables of this type drop the voltage much more significantly.
The female end is just as solidly constructed as the male end.
I am completely satisfied with this product and I highly recommend it because of excellent build quality and perfect functionality.
Works well and heavy gauge wire, better than I was expecting for the price. The female socket doesn't fit very tightly but I always tie a loop so the connectors can't pull apart anyway. I use it heavily and the wires or sockets don't overheat. There are so many false negative reviews (from competitors, I assume) that it's difficult to tell if the product is good or bad, but this item is exactly as displayed and works great.
I used this to hardwire a dash cam. It had a socket with a power adaptor, so I couldn't just cut the plug off and splice into my ignition. This was a simple solution. I plugged the dash cam adaptor into the socket on this Bestek Extension Cord, wrapped it in electric tape and buried it behind the dash. Then I cut the socket end off of it and hardwired it into my ignition. Worked perfect!
