Got this for my 91 yr. old Mom to help her getting in & out of bed. She had been using a walker with brakes on beside her bed prior to a hospital visit. She liked the hospital bed as it had rails to help her, so I got this handrail. Didn't want the type that has legs to the floor as that's an invitation for stubbed toes and harder to vacuum around. This rail was an easy install and is very secure. Small inconvenience with any product like this is changing sheets. Nothing you can't get used to, though.
Does just what it's supposed to do: Keep's you from accidentally rolling off your bed and functions as a hand rail for getting in and out of bed. I'm a big guy 275 lbs and the rail is strong enough to hold me.
Many of the bed rails have legs that are designed to go down to the floor. If the bed is too short OR if the bed is adjustable (head raises and lowers), then the type with legs can't be used. But, this one is perfect.
My mother uses a Tempur-Pedic adjustable bed and this is the only bed rail that worked. It is well made and works on the right or the left side of the bed.
I had a stroke about 8 years ago. This resulted in limited use of my left arm. For a long time I have been sleeping on the right side of the bed and used my right arm to push me up out of bed. This led to soreness in the arm from the strain. Now, I sleep on the left side of the bed with the rail at the head of the bed. It has helped a great deal; I swing my body out and pull on the rail with my right hand. my left arm acts as a pivot. my muscles are taxed differently and much less. Getting out of bed is easier now.
I wish I'd gotten this the first time instead of ordering something with feet that wasn't adjustable enough and wound up not fitting our bed. That item I had to return, but the boxes for this bed rail are in our recycle bin.
I had a little trouble putting it together, only because I didn't read the instructions closely enough. The holes at the end of the short extender tubes have to be on the OUTSIDE in order to then attach the plain connecting bar to them, so check before you put them in place. However, this gadget is so easy to put together, it's a simple matter to reverse things if you get them backwards.
As for the intended function, it's perfect. My husband has been taking some heavy duty medicine for cancer that has left him weak and having trouble getting out of bed himself. This bed rail has enabled him to sit up and stand on his own again which helps him to feel independent, and that's a definite positive.
We don't use the securing strap, it's fine on its own for us, very stable and strong. But we have it tucked under a hefty Cali King mattress.
I am wincing a little at the price for what it is, but generally feel it's worth it.

Worked perfectly and provides much needed safety. I bought for myself as my MS unfortunately made getting out of bed more difficult. This made me feel more safe and independent. I loved the fact that they are easy to use and requires no tools, just slide between the mattress and box springs.
Although not shown in the picture this comes with an anchor strap which makes it really secure. Difficult to install on a kingsize bed with a heavy mattres. It's hard to get the anchor all the way to the other side of the bed. It's tall enough that I have room to reach through it to gather things on my bedside table.
My mother was recently released from the hospital, & is still pretty weak. I needed to get her a product that would keep her safely in bed as she tends to sleep pretty closely to the edge & i was worried that she would roll off. I shopped around quite a bit, and looked at all sorts of rails. This one was simple enough, though i was concerned at first that it wouldn't extend far enough under the mattress & box-spring. My fears were eliminated once i installed it. It extends almost the entire width of the bed, and she has a full size bed! It is extremely sturdy. It takes quite a tugging to get it to pull out from under the mattress, and thus fully supports her weight. Not only does it secure her in bed, but she holds onto it to help herself sit up in bed, and to support herself when she sits on the edge of the bed. I have it positioned more toward the top of the bed, and its wide enough to protect her from head to a little below the waist if she rolls over. I rate this product 5 stars, and is well worth the money.
This works very well for my 86 year old mom who just got out of rehab after a stroke. We slipped it under the top mattress just below the head area of the bed and you can't feel it through the mattress even though it's thinner than a regular mattress. It's very sturdy so she can use it to pull herself up so she can sit on the side of the bed. And hers is a low twin size hospital bed so the kind with support that goes to the floor would be too tall. This one works just great.
Works well! Ordered for my son at college. He says it is well made and he likes the cover/holder that I also ordered to fit on bed guard.
