KINGART 350-72 Professional Mixed Media, Set of 72, Reusable Tin Pencil Set 72 Piece

If you're looking for gifts for creative teens, tweens, or anyone artistic, this is a moderately priced set of 72 mixed media pencils that are sold as "professional artist" pencils. This King Art set includes 24 colored pencils, 12 watercolor pencils, 12 metallic pencils and 9 pastel pencils with basic color choices, plus 12 graphite drawing pencils and 3 charcoal pencils. I have to say, I find the graphite and charcoal pencils to be of true, professional quality. All the pencils sharpen well without splitting. The pastel pencils are a bit disappointing in both texture and performance, as well as such a limited color range, but most pastel artists prefer the chalk-type sticks anyway. The watercolor pencils don't perform as well as Derwent brand, and the color choice is again limited. The metallic pencils are kind of cool, and the 24 colored pencils, while not as smooth as Prismacolor, seem to have good color saturation. The attractive tin arrived clean and undamaged.
Note: I received a free pencil set in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own... your mileage may vary.

Several years ago while living in Taiwan, I got hooked on the trend of coloring books for adults aimed at relaxation...and I love using watercolor pencils to create depth and gradients. This 72-pencil set from KINGART includes a combination of watercolor pencils in a variety of shades as well as regular colored pencils in a nice-quality tin. The pencils have a nice feel in the hand and both the regular and watercolor pencils held up well in comparison with the German-made watercolor pencils I usually use (this set is manufactured in China). I would definitely purchase again and am enjoying the KINGART set with several different themed books.

My 12 yr old granddaughter is the artist in the family and she calls this set of pencils "GOOD STUFF!" Here's what else she has to say:

The pencils feel really good in my hand and are very comfortable when drawing. Lots of colors, blacks and greys to choose from. The pencils sharpen easily and well and stay sharp enough to draw without having to stop and sharpen. The colors are nice and vibrant. The charcoals are rich. Overall, I recommend these pencils to serious and casual artists, both young and old. Its a really good set.

Gifted to our 12yr old budding artist who generally prefers markers. She liked the overall assortment and tin-it looks and feels like a lot!
Problem is this set isn’t perfect for anyone, the metallic pencils are novel at any level the charcoal is on point with great quality but, the overall color assessment (how creative are you going to get with 24 basic colors for blending and shading) the water colors are ok and the pastels are a disaster in quality and function.
This would be a great beginner set if it included an eraser needed to edit and a sharpener or it would be a great quality set if the 9 pastel were replaced with a better spectrum of colors.

This is a great variety of art pencils along with a very functional metal storage tin. You get 24 colored pencils, 12 watercolor pencils, 12 metallic pencils, 9 pastel pencils, 12 graphite pencils, and 3 charcoal pencils. The pastel and watercolor pencils have a somewhat limited color range, so this is really a starter set for those. The other sets are very nice and useful. All the pencils are easy to sharpen and use. 5 stars for quality and usability at this price level.

I've used a lot of art pencil kits. This one is the best. The size of the pencils is perfect for me. And the color selection is outstanding. And the color indicators are large enough that I can identify and grab what I need from farther away, rather than having to interrupt my work to examine color indicators more closely in order to identify my color of choice.
I have been looking for a pencil set with a larger color selection. The tin is wonderful for keeping all of the items protected while being moved about.
I will update concerning the longevity of this set over time.

I was very pleased with this package of pencils. The graphite pencils range from 6B to 6H and there is very good differentiation in softness/hardness. The colored penciled blended well, as did the "watercolor" pencils and metallic colors. Overall, this is a really good buy for the sketcher in your family.

Just about every single pencil you could want or need in one set and it comes I’m a durable tin case making them easily organized and ideal for travel.

I've never heard of Kingart. But I'm glad I tried these pencils. This is a good bargain and a great introduction to different pencil types. I have the watercolor and regular Prismacolor pencils which are arguably the gold standard in pencils for artists. And I can tell a difference in the pigmentation and quality/performance. But they are also insanely expensive.
This set comes in a sturdy metal case with 2 layers of pencils. The first layer comes with the regular color pencils and the water colored pencils which I felt were decent. (I thought the water colored pencils would blend better with water but they didn't.) But the 2nd layer comes with the pencils I really liked using. They contained the metallic pencils, pastel pencils, graphite pencils and charcoal pencils. The metallic pencils were okay. (I thought they would have more metallic sheen.) But I loved the softer pencils! The felt good drawing with and I liked the textures. But because they are so soft you will use them up fast. This set gives you a good idea of the Kingart selection and what you might want to buy more of in the future.
If you are starting out or just want a good general set this something that you should seriously consider.

I adore this set of pencils. The variety is incredible---there's a lot of colored pencils, some watercolor pencils, charcoal type pencils and pencils that are like regular pencils but with a whole range of hardness. Remember when you were a kid and wondered what a pencil that wasn't a number 2 pencil would write like? Maybe it was just me, but I always did, and I had an extremely good time trying this whole range of pencil hardness!

The pencils all just feel great in the hand. They are comfortable to hold. My son who dabbles in actually artistic type drawing tried them, and said the same thing---he could draw quite a while without his hand getting tired. I'm more of an adult coloring book user, but I loved how they felt.

The colors and metallic pencils seemed rich and deep on the paper. It was fun to have pencils for my coloring that actually seemed to have different textures and shines than each other.

I got this set to review, but the price right now seems extremely reasonable to me. If you have a child or friend who is artistic or who you'd like to encourage to be, this is a great gift idea.
