I already owned 4 of these flashlights without the magnetic base. When I saw these as a lightning deal I thought "Why not?". I gave them a shot not expecting there to be much of a difference, or even expecting the magnet to work very well. I was a little off on both counts.
In 2 of my attached pics I show the original version on the left, and the new version with the magnetic base on the right. The ring of metal around the base is the only noticeable visible difference between the two.
I own a bunch of these because I already think their illuminating ability is excellent. I chose to compare the quality of light between the old and new. Admittedly, the test isn't exactly scientific, but I think offers a good glimpse of the difference between the two. In one of the pics I shined them both on the wall next to each other. It turns out the original version puts out a slightly more bluish light, whereas this new version tends a little more toward the yellow. When comparing them one at a time I find the new ones to do a better job of illuminating a dark area. I never actually noticed the bluish hue of the original until I purchased these new ones and compared them. I already loved the originals, but in my opinion this new version is even better.
Then I chose to try out the functionality of the magnet. I held it up to the front of my refrigerator and the base grabbed on firmly. There is no way this thing was going to fall off. For a further test I opened the refrigerator door most of the way and then slammed it hard. Still, the flashlight held on without showing a hint of moving or of any strain.
Look, we're just talking about flashlights here, but I'm in the middle of purchasing a new home, and I have decided I want a flashlight in every room. I now own 6 of these and I'm going to purchase a few more. That should tell you how I feel about their quality. And yes, I also tried two other flashlight brands which were completely unimpressive to me. They didn't have the heft and robust quality feel that these do, and they do not illuminate as well as these do. I will still use them in my glove compartment or something, but I will also have one of these new flashlights in the back of my car in case an actual emergency comes up.
Overall, these flashlights exceeded my expectations. As much as I loved the original version, I love this new magnetic version even more - both for the new magnetic capability and also for the more effective quality of light. I will order another 4 of these to round out my collection. This is a 5-star item all the way. I heartily recommend!
These flashlights are great! Solid metal with great seals (I've tested them underwater by accident) and bright LEDs.

The best thing is a distance area may be lite up or it can be used as a spotlight

I love these things. I have one in my home and 1 in the car. it gives a great beam and I like the easy ability to broaden or narrow it.
Uses up battery fast
I use to walk my dog after dark. It lights up the yard or can be used as a spot light. Light adjusts easy from big to small easily.
