Has 4096 byte physical sectors (unlike what some other reviewer said) and runs fine. It generates heat during reading and writing that would make it unsuitable for a small, non-fan enclosure (mine got to 53 degrees Celsius, just 2 degrees below its maximum operating temperature). The only NAS server I have used has lots of fans and its NAS quality drives generate similar heat. If you are putting a drive like this in a dock, it's traditional to orient the dock so the drive sits vertically; on this drive I saw a 5 degrees C drop by moving my drive from horizontal to vertical.
I have attached a picture proving it has 4096 byte sectors to disprove what some other reviewer wrote.
I was hesitant about buying hard drives from a brand other than WD or Seagate, especially since these were going to be used in my home NAS. 6TB just couldn’t be beaten price wise so after extensive research on the N300 series I decided to give it a shot. The drives are pretty fast for what there used for (tested first using SATA to usb dock and managed to get near 200MBps) I’ve only had these for a couple weeks and there are two “issues” I find with them. The first being noise, these drives make sure you know when the head is moving which is a minor annoyance since my NAS resides in my bedroom but I doubt most people would have theirs in their room. The second is the operating temperature. I have two of these in a QNAP 231 which has active air cooling and both drives will reach 46°c within a minute of disk activity. I’ve found that nearly all owners notice the higher than normal operating temperature so it’s not a defective product. Aside from these issues they seem like a good buy however the biggest factor is reliability so if something does go wrong I will update. For the meantime I am satisfied with these and wouldn’t pass on recommending these.
I'm a commercial photographer using Drobo NAS units each holding 5 drives. At this point (Aug.2018) I've found these Toshiba drives in the 4-8TB range to be the most reliable.
I currently have about 120TB spread over 5 NAS units (3-FS, 2- 5N). I haven't lost any data due to drive or unit failure since setting up my first Drobo about 10 years ago, but I have had to replace about a dozen drives 1TB or larger (non Toshiba branded).
I use a mix of Toshiba X300 and N300 and cant say for sure if either is superior in speed or durability. I started buying the N300 as it looks to be better suited for my use, but I see they also tend to be a slightly more expensive than the X300 models. Hopefully the lower spin rate makes them run a bit cooler as that's the only difference I can see.
Good so far. These drives are a bit on the louder side. I have four of the "X" version of these drives in a larger capacity in a different server box. Those drives are not near as loud as these "N" drives. These drives run cool and seems great so far. I don't really care about the noise as they seem to be working great.
I used to buy Seagate drives because they were cheap, but as my data needs grew migrating drives has become a major upgrade procedure. Got tired of replacing drives and spending more money that if I did it right the first time...so I switched to Toshiba drives. If you want good stats on drives go to Backblaze.com and see their data. I have 1 more Seagate drive in a NAS and can't wait for it to drop dead so I can replace it with something trustworthy. This is the first of the N series drives I've tried. They're in RAID 1 configuration on a server that runs 24x7 so I'm looking forward to lots of years of use. I did have a Toshiba go bad, luckily it reported via SMART that it was having problems. That was after 7 years of 24x7 use.

Description
Toshiba's N300 3.5-inch internal hard drive offers high reliability for NAS and other high-performance storage systems. It is optimized to meet the reliability, endurance, performance and scalability requirements of 24-hour x 7- day high-capacity storage for personal, home office and small business use. The N300 is ideal for multi-RAID systems supporting up to 8 drives and workloads of up to 180TB per year. Perfect for small workgroups hosting a cloud or seeking centralized data sharing, storage and backup. Each drive is packed with advanced technologies to ensure the long-term reliability and performance you demand. Multiple shock sensors detect and compensate for shock and rotational vibration, while heat prevention controls automatically adjust seek speeds to minimize potential data damage. Toshiba's Stable Platter Technology stabilizes the tied spindle motor to curb system-induced vibration and strengthen system performance during read/write operations. Should an issue occur, this drive's error recovery control helps prevent critical downtime- ensuring that your work doesn't miss a beat. With a large 128MB data buffer, the N300 drive boosts performance and shortens read speed during high data-access loads. Plus, its class-leading 240 MB/s data transfer speed will keep your projects moving at a lightning-fast pace. With excellent reliability and 24/7 performance, it's hard to beat this all-star NAS storage performer.
Got a few of these over the past few months. So far now problem. They run quiet and relatively cool. I also have Seagate IronWolf, HGST Deskstar NAS, and WD RED hard drives. So far I'm happy with all this brands.
I'm not a high performance users and care more about bulk storage and quiet running. For my use case this hard drive is very good. I keep these drives in a Synology NAS in my office and I like quiet and cool drives.
Fast and reasonably quiet. I put two of these a few days ago into a new DS718+ running 24/7 (they never spin down as video and motion detection stores video and images onto the drives frequently). My N300's produce a very low level spinning sound at all times (my breathing in and out is noisier), plus they emit the occasional light rattle as the heads are moved inside the drive. I could sleep with these next to my bed if needed; I've had much noisier drives. For comparison, a pair of 5 year old WE Red drives in my adjacent DS213 are virtually silent at all times, so in comparison these N300's could be said to be "noisy".
Of course, long term reliability isn't proven in the few days I've had these drives.
Seems like a nice hard drive just installed it into a Drobo works fine my one complaint is that it was shipped in a bubble rap envelope absolutely not a way to ship a hard drive. shipping is the reason for not getting 5 stars. I will update if problems arise.
I have two raids. One with all these and one with wd red. These have faster r/w speeds but they are loud. When all of them are active it sounds like someone is taking a hacksaw to sheet metal. It's in the basement so who cares about the sound. 5 of them have been running 24/7 for over a year. No failures. I wouldn't recommend them more over reds unless they're cheaper and you don't care about the mega noise
No actual technical complaints. It's fast - the rebuild once the drive was added to my NAS went smoothly (not really a function of the drive but just noting that the drive didn't have any issues). The only complaint is that the drive is loud compared to the other drives in the enclosure (seagate)
