My initial incentive was that, in case of prolonged power loss (such as happens here with hurricanes) I would be able to keep my phones and laptop charged or use my asthma nebulizer in the car in case of emergency. I also thought it would come in handy for long car trips, such as taking the grandkids to Disney World.
But, even in normal times, it's still convenient to have the options of charging appliances (such as camera battery chargers) that are a/c powered and phones, ipads, etc) that are USB powered. I know that some newer cars come with usb ports. Mine, however, is 7-years old and doesn't have one. Now I have two and I can use both at the same time without affecting efficiency.
This latter function came in handy this morning when I was taking my granddaughter to get her hair cut and found that the i-pad battery was dead. By the time I got to the salon (a 20 minute trip) the i-pad's power was at 35%--enough to keep her entertained (and keep me sane) while she waited for her turn.
It also powered my little hand vacuum while I cleaned the car. This is a small a/c powered unit. It didn't lose any power and worked perfectly with full suction. I doubt that this power inverter will work for more heavy-duty appliances or anything that generates heat, but for regular needs, it's perfect.
The unit is small but powerful. It fits easily in the glove compartment.
The battery on my 3 year old laptop is a shadow of its former self. Its great to know that with this device I could power it or charge it IN MY CAR. How cool is that? I could see this inverter being super useful for anyone who does road trips for business. Not only could you power your laptop but you could easily use any small printer instead of buying a fancy mobile printer with its own battery. Great for a truck driver who needs to print paperwork on the fly or a contractor who wants to be able to hand over a hard copy estimate or receipt right there on the spot. You could also consider this a safety item, since you could run a standard wall plug tire inflator on this inverter.
It goes without saying, it can charge your phone too- as well as any other USB powered device. If they could have made it a fast charger too, that would have been about the only possible improvement. I don't know how often I'll find myself using this, but having the option is sure nice.
This is super convenient for those who travel a lot and need an outlet for a variety of reasons. I attend a lot of outdoor functions where I bring my laptop and there never seems to be a plug where I can recharge my battery or plug it into an outlet. With this little device, I can now charge all sorts of things in my car and also run devices that would normally be an issue to bring with me. The additional two USB ports are a wonderful addition for long trips with a lot of people.
This is great for charging your laptop on the go! I haven’t tested anything more current heavy than my laptop because I don’t want to draw more from my cars alternator than I should and risk messing with anything.
You should definitely look up the power output of your car and make sure you don’t overload the outlet running something to high.
I spend way too muh time on the road, and in cars, and just about everywhere there isn't an outlet. So this device has saved me. As a landscaper, we use a variety of battery-operated tools that need to be charged with an electric outlet after about 45 minutes of steady use. This is great that I can use the tool at my morning job, charge it while traveling to the next job or having lunch, and then use the tool again for the afternoon. Experience no issues with this and it worked exactly as I would expect to quickly charge my batteries. It was easy to set up and very obvious how to use it.
I have several of these types of devices by different manufacturers and I like them all. They are so convenient to have in the car when your phone needs charging or someone want to use a laptop. My car is old and doesn't have USB ports in the dashboard so I use converters a lot. I bought this to see if it would power up my 21" flat screen TV so I could watch TV off grid in my camper. It worked perfect and served its purpose, will probably purchase their 300 watt model as it has two outlets.
I love the color, weight, and size of it. It's small and light enough for your briefcase or backpack. These are handy to have when camping or long car trips. My kids like it because they can both charge their tablets.
This will not power heavier appliance, like a coffee make or hair dryer. You need more watts for that. You will have two USB ports and one standard 3 pronged outlet.
