PROS: The game is simple to explain, easy & fun to play, and actually kind of addictive. the rules are complex enough to require an element of skill, but simple enough that you don't get bogged down in the tiny details of card abilities or spells. a "long game" can be finished in less than an hour (short compared to others, where a long game might take 2-3 hours). The cards are well-designed, graphically and materially, have a good feel, the art is funny and bizarre, and the decks sometimes take after the personality of their characters (I've played the Finn & Jake, Ice King & Marceline, and the Princess Bubblegum & Lumpy-Space-Princess decks). some of the game mechanics are genuinely somewhat innovative. the game really strikes a good balance between strategy, probability, and rules.
CONS: some of the decks, while still usually remaining within the confines of their characters, are massively overpowered compared to others. it seems like each pack comes with a stronger and a weaker deck. Jake in particular probably has one of the strongest decks in the game, while Ice King probably has one of the weakest (which reflects the fact that Jake is supposed to be a super pro Card Wars player, and Ice King usually loses to the "good guys"). some of the rules or card powers can be vague, and I've had to make decisions on interpretation with the other player many times. The lack of official multiplayer rules can be annoying, but I've played 2 games with 3 players. Hero cards (sold separately) range from nifty additions to downright game-breaking. some decks and cards can exploit basic game mechanics in genuinely unfair - or at least unfun - ways (for instance, by doing damage to a player based on the number of cards in their hand). Decks sometimes have themes, like Jake's Corn deck and Princess Bubblegum's Nicelands deck, and it definitely seems that theme-deck-characters have an advantage over non-theme-deck-characters (like BMO or Finn).
Essentially, this game is a nerd-parody of Magic: The Gathering, hence "flooping". As such, if you're familiar with the basic mechanics of MTG, then you'll really enjoy this game, and pick it up very fast. it's actually a pretty good small party game too, if you open the rules to multiple players. some fundamental concepts: there is no upper limit on the size of your hand, so it should be as large as possible so you can maximize your available strategies; keep your lanes occupied at all times while simultaneously trying to always keep your opponents lanes empty; and always try to maximize your damage every turn, preferrably to your opponent rather than his creatures.
I recently purchased all three Adventure Time Card Wars Collector's Packs (Finn vs Jake, Princess Bubblegum vs LSP, BMO vs Lady Rai) along with a Card Wars Booster Display. As a fan of the TV show I really loved the game and appreciate how simple but clever the game is.
I do however, have a couple of issues with the products I received. My Finn vs Jake Collector's Pack was missing a card (Jake's deck came with 39 cards instead of 40 - the deck list stated that there should be 2 copies of "Big Foot" but there was only one).
Also, the card quality in the Collector's Packs seem to be very poor compared to the cards from the Booster Packs. The Collector's Pack cards had off-centred printing, lighter colours and a strange glossy finish to them. In comparison, the Booster Pack cards were of far better quality, reminiscent of those from Magic the Gathering. It's almost as if the Collector's Pack cards were fake. Although they're still playable, the difference between the two groups of cards is very glaring and disconcerting.
Having said all that, I would still like to reiterate that this is a really fun and interesting game. I look forward to future expansions of the game but also hope to have an official clarification on these issues I have experienced.
Purchased this product at the beginning of August 2018, shipped in a reasonably well amount of time, but I was anxious to receive it.
Upon opening the box, I noticed the first cards I saw were the landscapes. The first one was falling out of the cardboard frame, which basically fell apart upon the first touch. The cardboard was extremely worn on them, and the punch-out tokens ripped slightly upon removal even though I was extremely careful.
I figured that it wasn't that big of a deal, as I would be playing the game often enough to wear the cards out anyway, and that the product might be old and torn from shipping. But they did look used.
My Blue Plains landscapes also had a sort of green marker substance smudged across them, I wasn't too thrilled when it didn't come off. They are still completely usable and just look like they've been though some rough battles.
The front of the box mentions a "Bonus Code Inside" and it actually took me till my second game to find it. The code feels to be ignored as the Red "Secret Message" card was also shoved into the deck, which extremely confused me. I eventually found the card hidden within the deck on the second Pig Card. As a heavy player for the app I was thrilled to purchase this, but was extremely disappointed to find out that the code was just an extra pig card, completely useless to a player who is far in the game.
Even though its had its rough and tumbles, the game is extremely thrilling to play at sleepovers, and to pass the time in the hot summer day. Jake's deck seemed to be extremely overpowered, and the rules are a bit messy, but a solution I found was to mix both the decks together, give each player 2 Blue Plains landscapes and 2 Cornfield landscapes, and randomly deal out 40 card for both players. It gives a great chance factor for great polls and makes it amazingly fair for everyone, instead of using the pre-assigned decks, which almost always result in the "Corn" Deck winning, unless the Blue Plains player gets lucky.
Looking forward to purchasing more decks!
Bought as a gift.
The recipient was thrilled!
Would buy again and I do recommend!
If this review helps you please mark it "helpful" so I know! Thank you!
... I understood why Jake took 2 hrs to explain this game to Finn lol.. 3 of us took us around 30 mins to figure it out, but thanks to the manual and YouTube, we finally got it! N we still kept revealing new attacks and strategies after a new game. If you like a good strategy game, and enjoy the show, I recommend getting this! I will be buying the booster packs also hehe.
The first time we played an official game, I wore my Finn hat and made the cool guy and Dweeb drinks!

Feature Product
- Play the actual Card Wars game
- From the Adventure Time episode of the same name
- Decide who will be the dweeb and who will be the cool guy
Description
Adventure Time: Card Wars is the most epic card game ever found in the Land of Ooo, or anywhere for that matter! In the Adventure Time episode "Card Wars", Jake begs Finn to play his favorite trading card game. Finn accepts, despite warnings from Beemo on how very competitive Jake can be while playing the game. Finn and Jake battle against each other to decide who will be the Dweeb and who will be the Cool Guy. Now fans can play the actual Card Wars game in Adventure Time: Card Wars - Finn vs. Jake, with all of the action taking place in four combat lanes. Jake's corn-themed deck features creatures from the episode such as the powerful Husker Knights, the intimidating Legion of Earlings, the heroic Archer Dan and many more! Finn's "Blue Plains" deck features creatures from the episode such as the wise Ancient Scholar, the aptly named Cool Dog, and the most fearsome critter of all - The Pig! Each turn, a player has two Action Points to spend on Creatures, Spells, and Locations, and cards cost between 0 and 2 Action Points to play. When you summon a Creature, you choose which lane you want to place it in; some Creatures have FLOOP abilities that allow you to use their special abilities. When you attack with a Creature down a lane, you might find an opposing Creature, or you might get to deal your damage straight to your opponent's Hit Points. Reduce your opponent's Hit Points from 25 to 0 and you're the Cool Guy (and you win the game)! Each Card Wars starter set has a pair of different forty-card decks and is ready to play right out of the box. Mix the decks together to come up with your own righteous combos!
We have been playing this with our kids (10 and 11) who are both big fans of Adventure Time. The game seems complicated when you're reading all the rules but if you start playing it all comes to you pretty quick and ends up being very fun. Games don't last very long which is also nice since it's a 2 player game and they want to take turns beating dad.
I love that this games exists in real life! The cards are great and my boyfriend and I are super excited to play Card Wars.
The decks were mixed up but not a big deal to fix. Every design looks nice. I definitely am tired of corn now. It doesn't take too long to figure out how to play, but you need to plan to spend some time on this before you actually play and do a test play first by yourself. There is some interesting strategy to be had. I have played it against 9-year-olds with no problems.
If you're buying this, you're probably a huge Adventure Time fan. I love the artwork and the gameplay is easy to pick up. FLOOP. It's just not 100% balanced. Jake's deck is pretty overpowered and Finn's deck has little synergy so don't expect to be content with the default decks. Hopefully you buy the other decks so you can build a custom deck, or hope they release booster packs down the road.
If you're a fan of Adventure Time, then you will enjoy this deck more then the other one. With the famous Pig, you will chuckle in delight putting him down. Unfortunately these decks are built against each other. The Pig is actually useless if you play against something other than cornfields which is kind of disappointing. All around though, if you're an adventure time fan, you'll enjoy this. Oh also the card quality kinda sucks, specially for the landscapes.
