When it comes to wallets, I am often very preoccupied with finding one that works for my very picky husband. Truth be told, I guess I am pretty fussy too. Let's see how this one measures up to my requirements for a wallet.
WHAT IS THIS WALLET LIKE?
This appears to be real leather (as in not bonded) with a slick coating on it. The sewing and construction is well done, and there is lining in all of the pockets. There is a tab closure with a magnetic snap on it.
WHAT STORAGE IS IN THIS WALLET?
-Passport/ID holder with see through window
-Checkbook holder
-7 Credit card holder pockets
-gusseted pocket (receipts, cardboard member cards, etc)
-outside pocket (slim no room for much and no zipper)
WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS WALLET
-This wallet has no zipper pockets that close completely
-No zippered inside pockets
-Magnetic snap comes apart too easily
-Not quite enough storage room for travel for me
WHAT I DO LIKE ABOUT THIS
-This is sturdy
-There is enough capacity to double or triple cards in slots if careful
-This is compact when folded
-has room for checkbook
-slot big enough for passport as well as other ID
CAN THIS BE CARRIED ALONE AND NOT IN A PURSE?
Yes, this can be carried alone, but there is no wrist strap or place for one.
DOES THIS HAVE CHIP PROTECTION?
As far as I can tell this chip protection works. I do not have a chip reading machine that hackers use so I am not able to confirm that solidly, of course.
WOULD I CHOOSE TO BUY THIS AGAIN?
I probably would not choose to buy this wallet again because I prefer to have a secure zippered pocket to put my things into especially when traveling. However, it is the nicest wallet I have seen with checkbook AND passport storage space, so I would consider it if necessary.
MY RATING
FOUR stars. I am not totally in love with the set up of this wallet, but it is well laid out and has enough storage for basics. I prefer more storage and zippered pockets but this is a good choice for those who don't.
This Birch Leathers Travel Wallet is not just for travel.
This is a large, handsome wallet that has plenty of room for cards and tickets and vouchers and your passport, as well as cash and ID. It's made of a dark chocolate brown leather that appears to have some kind of coating on it. This is not butter soft leather and it has no graining so it's not high-end leather but it's attractive and looks like it will be durable.
Inside on one side, there is 1 long slot with a window for picture ID, 1 slightly longer slot for tickets, 1 flap slot to hold more tickets, a compartment for paper money. On the other side are 6 credit card slots and a large, expanding pocket for papers or documents or even your passport. On the outside back is another long pocket that will hold paper money or other documents you need to access quickly. The wallet folds in half and is secured with a leather tab with a magnetic closure. The wallet also features an RFID blocking lining.
My US passport does fit in this wallet in a couple of places. It's not really clear where it is intended to go, though. No single, defined space for it.
While this would work fabulously for travel, I am using it as my regular wallet because my old wallet finally started to fall apart. I must say, this wallet is much better appointed for my needs than my previous wallet. I tend to collect receipts and business cards and this wallet holds them easily in the large, expanding compartment. There is no change pocket but I never used that anyway as I keep my change in a zippered change pouch.
My only minor disappointments are that the coating on the leather feels a bit plasticky and that the stitches are a bit coarse with a long stitch length and visible, trimmed threads.
I don't know how much this wallet will cost so I cannot comment on the value but it's a wonderfully functional wallet - for everyday or for travel.
This Birch Leather wallet is of a larger size and has slots for eight credit cards, an ID window and three slots for airline or train tickets or your money. However, I do not have a train or airline ticket handy to try out the size so cannot guarantee that it would fit those kind of tickets. Certainly, money would lay flat inside one of the long pockets. It looks well made but doesn't seem like leather. It doesn't have that new "leather smell" or feel. It looks more like artificial leather. It has a very light feel. It has RFID block which is something we all need these days with all the identity theft. I would think it would be of more use to women because of it's larger size. I don't see men carrying this size of wallet, although it is good to have to have somewhere to put your tickets in when you travel. It measures 7 1/4 inches across and 3 1/2 inches in height. It would easily fit in a woman's purse. It has a magnetic clasp on it which is nice. I just think it looks a little cheap so I wonder how long it will hold up. It has plenty of room for cards and tickets though so could be quite useful if one travels a lot. I'm giving it four stars for functionality but taking off a star for the "cheaper look and feel" of the item. I had not heard of the brand Birch Leather so can't say where this wallet was made. There was no card inside it, although I suspect it was probably made in China.
I love this handcrafted wallet! Yes, it is a travel wallet that can be used for boarding passes and other important papers that you have to carry when traveling BUT I don't travel that much anymore and I love this wallet for everyday use. It is so much lighter and less bulky then the wallet I had purchased a few months ago which adds a pound or so to my purse.
This beautiful wallet is lightweight and very organized. It has many slots for credit cards and a clear covered window slot for my drivers license and other important papers. There is plenty of room for cash. It has the RFID shielding material that keeps information inside the wallet protected. It closes with a magnet snap that is quick and efficient.
I love the rich, soft leather and its wonderful smell. The only thing it does not have is a coin pocket, which is ok, I can deal with that. I am very happy with this wonderful wallet!
Birch Leathers' travel wallet is classy and stylish for the men (or even women) on your gift list. It has just the right number of slots for credit cards and RFID protection to keep would-be identity thieves literally out of your pocket. The leather is smooth but it doesn't have the richness I would expect.
This would have been a replacement for an Arnold Palmer passport leather wallet that I have had for more than 20 years. It isn't as soft and as others have mentioned, while it may hold an airline boarding pass easily, it isn't quite wide enough to hold a passport - whereas my old wallet was. Still, it is fairly good as wallets go.

Very nice quality black leather wallet with magnetic closure and outside slip pocket. Embossed with brand logo on bottom front right. My photos show this men's travel wallet next to a U.S. passport, then with the passport inside it, and then completely closed with passport inside. So we know a U.S. passport fits, and the magnetic closure adds certainty it's clasped shut. More too, worldwide passports comply with the ISO/IEC 7810 ID-3 standard - passports are all the same size in 2018.
How I love it; this wallet is manly and the perfect place to put a doggone boarding pass. And it's RFID.
This Birch Leathers Travel Wallet is rather nice. It is obviously well made and the leather is beautiful. There are loads of pockets and places to put money, tickets, identificationa and credit cards. I'm just not sure that a US passport would actually fit, though I may be wrong about that, I don't have one handy to actually test it.
Most modern attractive wallets advertise how compact they are. This fine piece of leathercraft has sufficient storage for all of your cards and pocket possessions, and looks sufficiently sturdy for real use and abuse. It is a man's pocket pocketbook for the purposes one needs for travel not just a few RFID credit cards.
This is a sharp looking, quality constructed travel wallet that will hold your passport, credit cards, license, and cash securely and with easy access. The magnetic clasp holds it closed and is easy to open. The leather craft is outstanding and you will get years of use from this wallet. I highly recommend it.
