I am Dada, not the three-year-old, but if this is left in the tub when I have a bath, and no one is watching, I may play with it.
If you know what you are doing, you can get the water going in the front to make the propeller spin around. Just saying.
First toy we have bought from this manufacturer. very pleased with how well built it seems to be. of course it cost a bit more than a normal cheap toy but it seems like it's going to last.
for anyone concerned about the fingers getting stuck the one that we just got has been redesigned. I'll try and take a picture but unless you have extremely small fingers they closed in the holes leaving only small openings for the water drainage. (Unless this design is what people are talking about with fingers getting stuck?)
I have found from experience that Green Toys make some of the best toys for little kids these days and this toy submarine is no exception. They are very durable and can withstand lots of play by kids. Our kids have played with these submarines not just in the bathtub but also in playrooms for about two years now and they are still in great shape.
The plastics used in the manufacture of these submarines is high quality and has no funny chemical smells whatsoever upon arrival. The design is great with lots of rounded edges, minimizing spots that can hurt a kid. These are well made toys that I can readily recommend. Made in USA.
(I include a small picture of this submarine next to a common half liter water bottle for relative size reference for your view).
The safety issue mentioned in another review appears to have been corrected. The windows now have plastic blocking them so that a child can no longer get their finger stuck. (See photo)
Aside from that, this toy is on par with all the toys from this manufacturer - EXCELLENT.
Completely recycled, recyclable, made in the USA, durable and sturdy... There is nothing bad I can find to say about any of these toys.
I Love Green toys!
It's a god thing that I had 4 boys because I love picking out their toys. Green Toys are made from Recycled Milk Cartons! BPA, and PVC FREE! AND made in the United States!! The packaging is cardboard and it is 100% recyclable too! They don't use any wires or pins to secure the item in the package, just the way the "cardboard" is folded and secured holds them very well- Great packaging! There are no sharp corners, very smooth surfaces!. The design is smooth and baby friendly. I love the color choices, and they make pink and purple cars and trucks for girls! The submarine floats, but it will also take on water if it is forced underwater--which works really well for hair washing and rinsing off of the body too! My grandson is 16 months old and he loves it. I also bought the tugboat, it floats, loads and pours, but I like the way the yellow submarine works better, it seems to be a more predictable pour. The "port holes" on the sides are backed by another piece of plastic so that little fingers are much less likely to get caught!
I will be purchasing more green toys in the future! I hope this company Goes far!
I w ill buy them as baby gifts too. It's a Tub toy that you didn't know you needed until you had one!

My 2yo daughter just got this for Christmas and thus far, it's been a hit with her, my almost 4yo son, and myself. My son particularly loves the moving propeller in the back. I love it as a rinsing tool. My son has the tug boat which I've been using, but its spout is narrow. The submarine has a nice wide opening which makes rinsing SO much easier!! I wish I had had this to begin with. So if you're debating between the tug boat and sub, I'd highly recommend the sub. It floats on the water's surface just like the tug boat, plus the top yellow part opens so the kid can put other toys inside if he/she wants.
This is a great bath toy. I read lots of reviews trying to confirm whether this version is the one that will open to more easily drain water -- so let me confirm for you: YES, this one will open! The top yellow handle piece easily snaps open. (Easily for adult, I should clarify - my one year old doesn't accidentally pull it open when playing, which is nice. Just the right amount of resistance.) We love Green Toys - especially bath toys, since they can be washed in the dishwasher if you accidentally let it sit with water or it gets icky. Made in the USA from foodsafe plastic, which I love since my kiddo puts everything in his mouth.
This appealing submarine is well made, pleasingly designed, and impact resistant. It has no sharp edges to scratch a child — or the enamel of the tub. In general, because this toy is responsibly made in USA, there are no safety issues to worry about.
It will float nicely on the surface of the bath water, but push it down a bit and it will head for the bottom. In other words, it acts like a real submarine!
Kids like to play with the little propeller — and are easily induced to pour water over their soapy heads out of the bow.
This is no cutesy little item, but a good-sized bath toy. I was surprised by the size. (I didn’t pay much attention to the measurements when I ordered.) This one bath toy eliminates the need for multiple toys floating around in the tub.
This is a good bath toy. My son just got it for Christmas and it has substantial size to it. It is not super small. Both my boys are always in need of new bath toys to keep bath time interesting. This has been very enjoyable for both of them. The only issue I have is opening it is a little hard on the fingers--it kind of hurts to pry it open. And in the pictures, it shows water just pouring out of those holes in a really amazing way. It doesn't do that in real life. The water sort of trickles out of them. It IS, though, an excellent pouring device out of the front of the submarine--great for rinsing water out of soapy hair in a fun way. The plastic is excellent quality. This is not a cheaply made toy. I think it will last a long time.
I had never seen or heard of Green Toys but luckily was on Amazon's website the day so many of them were at special low prices. I bought the submarine as a birthday present for a friend's grandson, and she says it's his favorite bathtub toy. He loves to scoop up the water and rinse the shampoo out of his hair with it, plus the submarine floats. It's made out of recycled materials, including the simple brown packaging, the top opens for easy cleaning, and its dishwasher safe. My husband and I have young great nieces and nephews on both sides, so we try to keep each gift around $12. I'm a huge believer in books so I paired the toy with Tony Mitton's Super Submarines (Amazing Machines). I'll be watching for more sales on Green Toys, as they are now my #1 go to gift.
