Downtown Pet Supply NO BARK Collar Citronella Spray Collar, Anti-Bark Deterrent for Dogs Kit - Safe, Effective, and Humane Dog Barking Control Collar (1 PK)

I decided to try this product after using an ultrasonic device that worked for about 5 minutes. My dog does not excessively bark, but he does bark and carry on when I leave the house. It took about 2 days for him to get the idea of why he is wearing it. Now I don't even need to turn it on. When he wears it, he know what will happen if he barks.
One of the things I love about this collar is that it will not go off if he just whines or makes other little noises. It only goes off with barking. I did not want him punished for whining. Overall this is a great product and I would highly recommend it.

I have an 10-lb Italian Greyhound suffering from mild separation anxiety. He barks continuously whenever I leave, which wouldn't be a huge deal except that I live in an apartment with neighbors on both sides. Before this I had seemingly tried everything: an ultrasonic bark control unit, calming treats, music, "thunder shirt", Bach Rescue Remedy, Melatonin, Comfort Zone diffusers. The citronella spray collar was VASTLY more effective than anything else. I always come home to a quiet apartment. The collar is for larger dogs, but you can adjust it down. I've sprayed myself by accident and it's startling but otherwise it's absolutely harmless. Watch the demonstrations on YouTube. It does scare the dog, so I come home and he's quiet but still nervous. I was warned they could bark until the spray is empty, but this hasn't been a problem for me. My only complaint is that it may spray when my dog shakes himself. I tried speaking/woofing/growling into the microphone myself and it was OK at distinguishing, not 100%. It won't be going off all the time, but it's not perfect. Overall, if you need a quick fix to prevent barking, this is it.

(Update: I was a grad student when I wrote this and I ultimately discovered that once I started a full-time job with routine hours, I could remove the bark collar and he didn't bark. So a set schedule/routine is also your friend.)

We recently brought a German Shepherd puppy into our family to be a pal for our 2 year old Australian Shepherd. At 8 weeks he was as sweet and as quiet as could be, as soon as he turned 10 weeks old he became the most vocal dog I've ever owned, he'd bark every second you weren't playing with him, he'd bark if you told him no, he'd bark at his toys, he'd bark in his crate all night, he would bark just to hear himself bark, it was starting to get very frustrating and nothing we did would help curb his barking. Our other dog is the quietest dog ever, to the point we were concerned he had damaged vocal chords because he has never barked more than 5 times in the two years we've had him, so we had no experience is training such a vocal dog before. After about 3 weeks of this It was getting exhausting and I started thinking about the possibility of a bark collar which I hated the idea until I found the citronella spray collar. This thing has totally changed our puppy back into his sweet self. The strap was a little confusing to get right but once we figured it out and put it on him, he barked twice and got sprayed and stayed quiet for the rest of the night. We got our first full night of sleep in almost a month and it was so pleasant. He has learned that there are certain times he can bark and certain times he shouldn't. We rarely put it on him now and he lets out a few playful barks while playing with our other dog or the cat and when he needs to go outside. Every now and then he'll get into a small barking spell, we'll put the collar on him and he'll get spritzed once and then calm down immediately. Sometimes I don't even have it turned on, and just placing the collar on him is enough to keep him quiet. He doesn't even wear it 95% of the time. This was a miracle worker, we have never had it go off falsely, the only issue we have is sometime it's not snug enough against his neck so he can bark and it won't gooff so we have to adjust it a little tighter and it works again. This has definitely helped our household!

Seriously, I don't know what I would do without this bark collar. It worked so well IMMEDIATELY. There is almost no learning curve for your dog with this thing. I have a 20 pound Schnoodle, cute as pie, but he barks SO much. He even barks and growls at babies in strollers. I am against shock collars so I thought I'd try this and I'm glad I did. The first time he barked and got sprayed, it shut him up instantly. Then came the 2nd bark. And that was it. He's a particularly smart dog so maybe dumber dogs don't catch on as quick lol. After that first day, I put the collar on him without even turning it on! He THINKS it's on so no barking! But here's the best part... shortly after I just hold it up and say "do you want the bark collar?" and he shuts up! NOW all I have to do is ask him that without him even seeing it and he just stops and looks at me like "please mommy don't put that thing on me." It's a GODSEND. Thank you for the greatest dog owner invention of all time!

Works like a charm! Our newest rescue cocker, Winston, was afraid of everything and barked long and loud at the slightest noise.
We have two other cockers who were responding to Winston and his frequent bouts of 'over the top' barking.
Tried misting w/lime juice, shake can, treats for 'quiet' ... nothing was working.
I was afraid Winston was beginning to think his new name was "Shut Up" (my husband's phrase, NOT mine!)
BUT ... by the end of the first day with the NO BARK collar, Winston was down to a mild 'grumble'.
Huge and welcome difference for our entire family.
Finally we are a mostly peaceful and low-key household again.
Even our new boy seems to be happier about his less-frenzied existence.

Description

How does it work? This Downtown Pet Supply no bark control collar senses your dog's bark. When your dog barks, a burst of Citronella (lemon) spray is emitted. The no bark control collar discriminates each bark from other external noises. A burst of citronella spray is emitted to deter barking only if both the vibration from vocal chords and the sound from the bark match the same criteria. The citronella spray is non-offensive to people and generally effective enough to distract your dog from whatever he is barking at. This is not a shock collar, shock collars use a painful shock to attempt to stop the barking. Using a shock collar is less effective and the pain induced to the dog usually increases anxiety, aggression and often worsens some behavior habits. We do not recommend shock collars. The Downtown Pet Supply citronella no bark collar is twice as effective as the shock collar and extremely safe, effective and humane! Brand New, Factory Sealed, Includes a 60 day Manufacturer Warranty *Note: Date on bottom of citronella canister is NOT an expiration date. It is a manufactured date. This product is not perishable.

I had the traditional shock collar for my mini Aussie, but he would literally bark right thru the shock, not to mention the high pitched warning that was supposed to clue the dog that the shock was coming, drove me crazy. So...I asked my vet if she had any suggestions. I was almost to the point of wanting to just have him de-barked (as cruel as that sounds). She suggested trying this collar and so I immediately ordered it and to my surprise and delight, it actually WORKS!!! He is very aware of it when I put it on him in the morning and is as quiet as a little mouse for most of the day. I was having an issue with it holding a charge however and complained to customer service. Without any hesitation they sent me out a replacement and were so concerned that I was a satisfied customer, I could hardly believe it. This is indeed a much kinder solution than the shock collar and I would definitely recommend anyone with a barking dog to give it a try. I would have given it 5 stars, but I have to say, it is a little sensitive and I have learned that if he sneezes or shakes too hard it will set it off. I take it off when he is playing, so he can relax and feel comfortable.

I have a dog that has 1/4 chiwawa in her and that's all she needs. What a barker! I've tried a few different collars for her but she just barks right along with the sound it makes. She is small so I won't get a shock collar for her but the noise and vibrations just don't work. I bought this type in Wal Mart years ago and it worked great. It stopped taking the fluids I'd put in. I think it got clogged up. I stopped and she is just getting worse and worse. So now she is back on this. Plus I haven't even put and liquid in it yet and just the puff of air stops her. YaHoo!

I have two dogs who bark too much so we decided to try this collar. It works great on the dog with long hair. It only goes off when he barks, it does not trigger when he whines or whimpers. Now with my short hair dog that is the same size, it goes off unprovoked. If he shakes his head, if he yawns, if he makes any sudden movements the thing would spray him. It scared to crap out of him. I’m keeping it for the long haired dog but will need to find something else for the short hair.

When I married my wife a little over 5 years ago, a 16-pound Maltese/Poodle was part of the package. The dog never had any obedience training, nor was she discouraged from barking in the 3 years or so up to that point. She barked with wild abandon at every day activity, like doors opening or closing, dishes bumping against countertops, people walking across the street, the trash truck, etc. This wasn't a huge deal until our son was born and the barking would interrupt his naps. We didn't want to be constantly yelling at the dog. She just needed some operant conditioning.

I ended up purchasing this collar since the blast of fragrance was merely an annoyance rather than painful. We left the collar on her during our son's naps a few days in a row. The collar worked when she barked and she would stop almost immediately; but it was also a bit over-zealous, and it also blasted her with citronella for innocuous things like scratching her ears or jumping off the couch. She hid, frozen, under the furniture as soon as we put the ticking time bomb on her. We felt a little bad about the unjust punishment, so we started just turning off the spray when putting the collar on. She still believes that it will go off at any moment for any reason.

Now, we can simply say the word "collar" or hold it up for her to see and she stops barking. The threat of the capricious collar has been enough to reduce her barking considerably. In the three months since we've purchased the collar, I haven't needed to put in a new battery or purchase a refill canister yet.

It's nice to see the technology on squirt collars improve the last few years, and I am very happy with this product (NO BARK Collar Citronella). The spray is quick but direct enough to get my German Shepherd's attention. Now my dog just eyes the squirrel dancing across the oak branch instead of barking up a storm, working herself into a frenzy, scaring the cat to death and upsetting the neighbors. The nice thing about this squirt collar is you can clearly confirm it does not go off by accident (unlike shock collars that could misfire and hurt your dog and you'd never know). The one thing I would say is to turn it on *before* putting it on your dog, because it fires a test squirt. In other words, the device should be turned to the "on" switch before you put it around your dog's neck. Otherwise if you put it on and then turn it on, your dog will get a test squirt even though your dog didn't bark.
