Overall the experience was good. I used it for three days to record some videos for my co-wokers. It is huge improvement than the original mic on the A7R3. In addition, I won't be hearing any sound from the lens because the mic is directional. However, I would suggest you to pick up a windscreen If you are shooting in a windy environment. Another reason I pick this up is it's power by battery, my dad's old DSLR requires a powered microphone. I will pass it to my dad this Christmas and update my review of his experience.
I am not an expert, but this mic do make a huge difference on the sound quality compare to the built-in mic. I occasionally take videos for friends and family events, no one ever complain about the video quality because it's in 4k, but most of the time they would point out the sound is not clear enough or too much noise. So I decided to get an external mic to see if it would improve and I got this. Turned out it was such a big difference, the sound is so much clear now. I am so glad I gave this a try.
I normally use a Rode mic, and i get hissing from it. Not this! The price is much better too. Great quality, price, and style. Win win win!
I have been wanting to use my DSLR for some video recording for a while now but was never happy with how the internal mic sounded. This microphone is a great alternative to get you started. Powered by one AAA battery you have the option to have a 10 decibel gain or normal. I’ve not been able to determine battery life yet but I would think it is decent. The Microphone includes a pop screen and a standard flash mount for cameras. Overall I am very happy with this purchase!
The microphone is cute, not as big as I thought. I tried recording the sound from 8 meters away on my camera. The quality is good.

I added this mic to my Nikon DSLR for video projects and it works great. It is battery powered and has a switch for on and +20dB
Picks up voices much better than the built in mic on the camera
For this price this is a great mic. It definitely beats the built in mic on my Nikon and fits perfectly on the camera. The sound quality is just so much better on my videos using this mic. The mic is powered by 1 AAA battery and I’ve made a few videos without any issues but I can’t vouch for battery life at this point.
I can not believe the quality for the price! This worked so well. Now that I have seen how much this enhances the sound quality of my videos, I am going to buy it for friends for Christmas. The shipping time was crazy! Like 24 hours ! PLUS it was very easy to install.
Update: You need an adapter for the Canon T6 to use this camera. The camera does not have a 3.5mm plug in so you need the adapter for the mini usb. I have ordered it and will keep this microphone!
Bought this for my son to go with his new canon we bought him for Christmas and after opening gifts and setting up the camera the microphone plug in is bigger than the hole on the camera.
Just purchased another one after hearing the sound boost on my GoPro 6 at +20db setting.
Mic foam muff clears out of the frame on the Hero 6, this was a concern.
GoPro users will need to set the sound option to "powered mic" to get the added sound boost.
Have a 50-60 buck un-powered Video Rode that does not come close to this cheap, but good mic.
Know several will probably dispute this, but I hear what I hear.
Happy that this mic uses a AAA battery, instead of the mini coin style.
Not concerned about lack of a shock mount, because my GoPro 6 cam position is a
stationary mount on my boat's hardtop.
