Like the other reviewer said, if you are using Mac 10.13.x High Sierra, you will need to download the latest driver. Mine worked without downloading, but even though I had Gigabit, it didn't go past 230mbps. After downloading the latest driver, and applying it in network setting (the installer gives you instruction), I was able to get the full Gigabit speed, with the lights on the adapter working. I googled for "realtek usb c ethernet driver mac" and downloaded the "MAC OS 10.6 to 10.13" version 1.0.17 driver from the realtek site. In the realtek site, the page hierarchy is "HOME > Downloads > Communications Network ICs > Network Interface Controllers > 10/100/1000M Gigabit Ethernet > USB 3.0 > Software"

Unbelievably, I plugged this device into my Google Pixel 2 XL (Android 8.0) and started trying to figure out how to enable it, configure it and all that and I didn't see anything pop up. After a couple seconds pause, trying to figure out where to start and I realized that it's already working, right out of the box! All I did was plug it in and disable my other data connections and it was working flawlessly!

I'm stoked; this is going to allow me to use my travel router in hotels by authenticating over ethernet, using my phone, and cloning this device's MAC address on the travel router.

Beware Mac owners: you WILL need to download the driver despite what the scant manual says (that Macs don't need one), and if you're running OS 10.13, you will not be able to get it from the Anker site. You will have to call their tech support to get the link to realtek's site, which is where the driver download resides. Totally stupid, but at least after I downloaded the driver the adapter now works.

Also, there are three lights on the unit once plugged in that are not explained in the manual, and the tech wasn't very helpful about them either. He basically said, if they're on, it's functioning. And they remain the same whether or not the driver is installed so don't rely on the red and blue turning green.

Other than that, it seems to work well, though the unit runs warm enough to feel hot, but not so hot I can't touch it. This, according to tech support, is normal. We have Comcast Blast 200 and clocked up to 230 mbps download and and 18 upload on the new XB6 modem, so I'd say it functions well at startup. I knocked off a star for the lack of and wrong information in the manual and for Anker failing to host the updated driver directly on their site's adapter page along with all the other drivers.

I own a 2018 MacBook Pro. In addition, I have an incredible Fios Internet plan that brings 1GB wired speed into my home.

I can sit and stream my Internet over WiFi, but I only get about half the speed I am paying for. So, what I need is a way to connect my ethernet connection directly into my MacBook Pro.

I was a bit at odds about selecting this Anker Ethernet adapter. The choice of the adapter was easy...it's an Anker. They are one of the most trusted electronic companies in existence. I will take an Anker product over just about any other brand.

The problem? All these Amazon reviews said that an additional driver would be needed to drive this adapter to its potential. I wasn't too happy about that and I almost went with another brand because I just didn't want to have to locate and install a driver.

Brand won over inconvenience.

So, when I got the adapter I put it to the test. Would it deliver 1GB speeds without the driver? Well, the initial test showed that I was only getting 360 Mbps directly connected to my ethernet network. I then downloaded and installed the driver. On the next test, I was over 920 Mbps. So, yes, the driver is absolutely needed.

Finding the driver was not difficult. Just do an Internet search for Realtek USB Ethernet Driver/Installer. I would have provided a link but sometimes they are removed from reviews.

The build quality of this adapter is exceptional. It has a USB-C plug so it plugs right into current MacBook Pro models and any device with such an input connection.

As someone who has been a veteran purchaser of many Anker products, I cannot recommend this particular product (or any of their products) more highly. Sometimes it's worth paying more for a name that you trust over saving money on a generic brand.

Very elegant looking, lightweight adapter with gorgeous tiny lights (although nowhere in the booklet it describes what they mean, but you will see solid red and green and blinking blue when everything works perfectly). Of course the most important thing is this adapter works perfectly. I am using it with Macbook Pro and its flawless. Testing on an empty network (Ubiquity switch) with my fileserver it is pretty consistent at 114 MB/s with 117 MB/s peak when talking to my fileserver. Pretty good performance.

Initially, I was clocking 200 Mbps (mind you I have a fiberoptic connection at home from Verizon). Then I installed the latest drivers for MacOS 10.3-10.16, and the performance improved drastically to the speed tests depicted above.

However, I am running the beta version of MacOS Mojave, and as it is beta, I am unable to accurately say with 100 percent confidence that the above sub-par performance is due to there not being any drivers for my OS. Below are the iperf results from my mac OS to a VPS instance hosted at Vultr:

As you can see from the intervals, the throughput speeds fluctuate greatly, and I am unable to receive consistent near-Gigabit speeds. I will wait till Realtek rolls out a new driver for macOS Mojave, and review again.

Dell saw fit to deck out my 17" Inspiron bought in December 2017 with all the latest, like AC WiFi, USB 3.1 and C. Yet it only came with built-in 100mb/s wired Ethernet. It gets really annoying when you need to move large files under less than reliable WiFi and see it either fail due to errors or top out at 11 megabytes per second of copy speed when plugged in. 10 gigabyte files which my 2011 Mac moves with ease are a choking hazard on my brand-spanking-new Windows machine.

Anker to the rescue! If you follow the instructions posted here to install the network drivers, it works exactly as promised. I'm seeing exactly 10x the performance that I was getting with the built-in Ethernet. Windows copy shows networks speeds of 110-115 megabytes/sec when copying to and from my Synology NAS. For the price, there's no better performance boost if you want the extra speed and reliability of a wired connection.

I have an Asus Zen Book that lacks an ethernet port. I purchased this adapter to plug into the USB-C 3.1 port that I do have. I plugged it in, heard the familiar sound of a new device being recognized, plugged my live ethernet cable in from my WiFi gateway, and within seconds, I had a wired connection. No issues whatsoever. I am running Windows 10, 64 bit, latest version. I did not need to download any driver or other software. I'm not sure what went wrong for those who said this adapter did not work for them using Windows 10.

Build quality of this adapter is very nice. Solid aluminum construction (not plastic) and also has three LEDs to indicate power, ethernet connection, and internet activity. Another solid product from ANKER.

Worked for a minute then stopped. There is apparently some sort of driver issue here. I have messaged their customer support. And may revise, but so far its been a pain in my arse. Also, heads up when you install the driver, don't disable wifi as it caused my system to crash as it got locked out for some reason from being able to turn the wifi back on until I reinstalled the OS.

Updated 5.3.18

I contacted support regarding the driver issues. Which they updated and sent a replacement unit. It is working great so far. I'll update if things change.

I like Anker and bought many of their cables etc and really want to like this product.
It does plug and work, however it cannot reach the full speed of wired network (only around 250, my network max is 500)
Tried installing the drivers from Realtek but it is still unstable after that - sometimes it can reach full speed but once unplug and plug in it slows down again
The instructions they give during the driver installation is also not accurate, e.g. there is no ‘configure’ menu associated with the network system preference
The drivers provided on the Anker website is confusing and one of them caused bluetooth not working, have to use the uninstaller, be cautious
Wish to use wired connection for speed and stability however it cannot deliver fully at this moment

Update 13 Sept: 2 additional stars are added for the famous, excellent Anker customer service, they reached out quickly and promptly responded to my issues. Looking forward to buy more of their products!
