Before I bought this camera, I had already purchased 5 other Wansview cameras....so it was an easy decision to buy another one.
The most eye-catching thing about this camera initially is the price. For a camera that does so much, the price is amazing. As an owner of other Wansview cameras, I already knew the product would be easy to set up and operate. My sentiments where confirmed when the camera arrived a few days after purchase......and was set up and operating within minutes.
The box includes the camera, charging USB cable, an Ethernet cable and hardware to mount it onto a wall.
The cool thing about the Wansview cameras are the QR codes on the back of the cameras. Just download the Wansview app (available in both the Apple Store and Google Play Store) and tap the 'Add Camera' tab within the app.....then just read the QR code when prompted and boom, done! Literally this easy.
I have both iOS and android phones and tablets and this app works well on both. There is also computer software that can quickly be downloaded that gives you a wide range of setting options.....like recording both audio and video when triggered to do so.
This particular camera pans and tilts in all directions, and this movement is controlled by swiping the picture in a particular direction on your mobile device.
Besides viewing what is in range of the camera, you can also monitor audio as well.....and have a conversation with someone wherever the camera is set up directly from your mobile device.....anywhere in the world. That's cool.
My first camera from Wansview was bought about two and a half years ago. Unfortunately, well over a year after it was bought, I ran into some camera panning issues when using my mobile device. After contacting the company, Connie helped me get it running again.....and was very gracious and professional as we tried to figure out the problem. We probably exchanged 7 emails within a few days.....she was amazingly attentive and helpful.
I learned from this exchange that Wansview sticks by their products.....years after purchase. That is very important to me, and not something you see a lot of in this day and age.
If you are on the fence with this product, I would strongly suggest giving it a try. It's well worth the money, works amazingly well and you can count on great support should you need it.
What else do you need?
My take before you buy and for sure before install
-Don’t try to set up via WiFi Go right to Ethernet direct connect get connected and then it will ask you if you want to set up Wifi right there. Saves you an hour worth of frustration.
-When asked to scan the barcode symbol scan the barcode on the bottom of the camera unit itself not the one in the set up guide. Took me more than a few times to figure that one out.
-When asked to name camera put in your name without any spaces in-between
-Still can’t figure out the motion alarm piece and how to best set that part all up but per the lack of app ease and instructs I cant be blamed. Emailed support in the afternoon no response that day.
-I placed in a darker corner in the house and it pretty much moves to black white night vision in the early afternoon
-App needs an update functional but Zzzzz
-Pretty darn good camera quality even at 480
-Like the talk and listen
-Even somewhat working it’s both cool and a spooky peace of mind
-If supports calls and I get the motion part figured out. 4 Stars
Overall I feel it’s like owning a $50 boat
UPDATE: 4/2018: I have to give credit to the seller. They reached out to me after they noticed my poor experience with the camera the first go-around. The seller wanted to make things right and offered to send me another camera. Their willingness to help out a customer speaks volumes of their company. It's because of that I changed my review from 1 star to 4. The camera itself is still limited by the lackluster app. I was able to connect to my internet but your wifi password can not contain and & symbol or exclamation point. I really feel this product would be a home run if they could give their app more attention. The app is glitchy and oftentimes wouldn't sync with the camera from time-to-time. This product has huge potential.
OLD REVIEW: I truly wonder about the other reviews on this camera. Please do yourself a favor and for all of these types of cameras, checkout the reviews on their apps. You'll need to download their respective apps in order to have the camera function. The disparity between the favorable reviews of these cameras and negative reviews of their apps is a head-scratcher. Makes you questions the validity of the some of the reviews for these cameras.
My experience was a really frustrating one. Got the cameras in as promised in time but that's where the good news stopped. The very next few steps were to download the Wansview App (2.6 star average as of 1 Jan 2018). Also, your wifi password can not have an & symbol or ! exclamation mark include the password or the cameras won't connect. I couldn't get my cameras to connect to my Wifi and I had enough. I couldn't do it anymore. It's a shame because the price point on this camera was great but the reviews make me wonder their authenticity with how poor of reviews their app gets.
Pros:
- This camera works well for what I need - puppy cam. I wanted something that I could jump onto to see what my puppy is doing while I'm not there (don't really need it to be recorded all the time). - The set up was easy to follow through the guide.
- Picture quality is nice with 1080p. Sound is good. Zoom is good.
- Being able to take screenshots is great, but, I wish I could take a screenshot of what I zoomed in on.
- Night vision works great! Good transition from light to dark.
- So, far does what I need so nothing to hate about it.
Cons:
- That awful loud beep when you have to connect to the WiFi.
- Camera movement could be better. It's very fidgety as in, if you want to move view to right/left/up/down, it's like when the clock hand ticks.
- Microphone could be better. It breaks up sometimes.
- Restrictions in password as others have mentioned. Why wouldn't someone use something more secure, so, to disallow special characters can be a turn off in security.
- Restrictions in distance from WiFi connection. Luckily, my WiFi is close to where I needed my cam
So this is exactly what I was looking for. I bought a Wansview outdoor camera and wasn't thrilled with it because it lacked SD/Micro SD support however, this one does support micro SD which is by far my favorite way to go when wanting to keep footage. You don't have to have a DVR, cloud boxes, etc. You just pop in a micro SD, tell it to record 24/7, then when it gets full it starts overwriting the oldest data. I have a 64GB micro SD in it so it can hold about 5 days of 1080p or I am guessing around a month for 480p recording. I haven't had it for a month but 480p recording files are much smaller than 1080p. Something cool too, if you buy an UPS battery backup system, and you have this camera set up to record to the micro SD, if power and internet go out, you still keep recording, you don't lose your footage.
As far as the software goes... it's ok, The software was much more tolerable using this camera than the outdoor camera because once I set it to SD recording I just let it go and then the monitoring part of it is easy. I have some FujiKam cameras that sold big on Amazon a while back but now has been discontinued. The FujiKam has far superior software however, this is a much better camera than the FujiKam (quality and build) but if I could recommend anything to the company that makes this camera is to look into MIPC FujiKam software and make it more like that. Again, I would rather have the Wansview camera over the FujiKam because the picture quality is superior on the Wansview and all the features are still for the most part there just not as easy to use as the FujiKam.
I like how it comes with an easy mounting system. I mounted it high to it captures a big portion of the house. The cord it comes with is very long so you should have no problem reaching what you need to. The setup was a breeze by hooking it up to the LAN port and the company is awesome. They reach out to their customers. They hit me up for both this camera and the previous one. I like that. I don't like the car salesman type of folks that badger you into buying something but I do like when retailers make sure that your purchase is going well and if you need anything just contact them so bonus points on them for that. Other than that this camera is cut and dry, very well made, simple camera with a beautiful picture. Hope this helps.
Pros:
- Picture quality
- Inexpensive security camera solution
- Micro SD card support
- Easy to set up
- Easy to mount to the wall
- Customer support/service very friendly and helpful
Cons:
- Software not as good as what I have been used to (that's not to say it's bad), it's good. Could use s sprucing up, mainly the PC app
- Would like a 5Ghz support
- Micro SD card placement could be better. Wish it was on the side or front since I have it mounted to wall makes it kind of a pain to access
That's really it, there isn't too many cons, this is a straight forward WiFi cam and I like it.

I am very happy with this purchase. The camera was easy to install and took only about 5 minutes to get running on my Android phone. The Wansview application works very well. I had a couple of questions about some of the application functions and sent email to the Wansview support group. I got responses within an hour even though the company was on holliday. This is exceptional customer service. I purchased a second camera because this one is working so well. The quality of the images is sharp both day and night and the price is great.
Listen, I never leave reviews. And I read ALL of the ones here before I bought this thing (October 2018). I was so skeptical about buying this, since I'm not tech savvy AT ALL. I was worried I'd need professional help. These reviews literally scared me. Lol. But it wasn't that hard at all!!! Y'all are just over-complicating things.
The hardest thing for me to figure out was the WiFi situation. (And to be fair, that has nothing to do with the camera, and more to do with my own internet set up!) The instructions say that this camera can only work with a 2.5 GHz WiFi. I have a dual modem (so it gives out a 2.5 and 5.0 signal). I had to find out how to split them so that the cameras could pick up the 2.5 GHz signal only. It was tricky, but I figured out how on my Xfinity app. If you're like me, that probably sounded super geeky and complicated -- but it's really not. I figured this stuff out using google. Lol. But the reality is, if you need help with your WiFi connection, just call your internet provider -- I'm sure they'd help.
After connecting it to WiFi, the rest was just a breeze. I just followed the directions on the menu guide it came with. I bought two cameras. I had the first one running in 15 minutes. The second camera? Two minutes.
If you can't get them to connect, it's likely your WiFi. MAYBE you got a bad camera -- but I sincerely doubt that.
I'm just a regular 26 year old woman -- never took any techy class. If I could figure this out, I promise you can, too.
I managed to get the camera hooked up to wifi but cannot figure out how to get it to send a notice to my iPhone or to record a video and save it. Don’t know where to find info for email set up. When I tried to set alerts, the camera would beep every few minutes. I suppose that was to indicate something moved within its range. Too technically sophisticated for me. Will call customer support for help and pray I get a rep with whom I can communicate. UPDATE 2 March 2018: the company reached out to me to help me solve my problems which earned them an upgrade to three stars. Unfortunately, the camera only sends alerts to android phones. Alerts being the reason for my purchase, it just wasn’t the camera for me and my iPhone. The company graciously offered to refund my money, without my returning the camera, which in my book earned them five stars. My problems aside, the Wanless Wireless camera displays a clear sharp picture with the tilting feature providing a panoramic view. I like the the dome shape. Reminds me of NASA’s space helmet for our astronauts. Thought about naming it Hal.
It didn't take me more than 10 minutes to set up the camera on my Android phone. The instructions are clear. I suggest reading the instructions several times before beginning. And have your cell phone ready with all the settings correctly set. Then plug in the camera near your WiFi source and very soon it is ready to go! The video quality has two options: 480P and 1080P. 480 is about what my previous cameras were -- with this camera set to 1080, it is amazing how sharp the video is. And you can zoom in on the picture for a better view too! The wide angle lens gives me a view of the whole room depending on where I position the camera. I inserted a 64Gb micro SD card in the back of my camera and set it up to continuously record. The recordings are excellent and with the date stamp, easy to locate a time particular frame. I can monitor the sound which is quite clear. I've not tried the microphone-speaker option. I was surprised at the 'night vision'. Since I have several IR sources in my room, the view is amazingly clear. I can take photos or videos with this camera -- recorded to my phone. The camera can be place anywhere it can be plugged in to A/C and receive your 2.4 Mhz WiFi. I bought the white version and it almost disappears in the background -- not obtrusive at all. From anywhere in the world where I have cell phone contact, I should be able to view and operate my camera. Though not advertised much, I also set up my camera to be viewed on my desktop computer (LAN) and set it up so I could view it from any computer that had an internet connection -- and my passwords! Great for when I travel. This camera is NOT just a baby monitor -- it is also a security monitor! I did contact support and received feedback in less than 24 hours -- time difference between EST and China. My contact was very helpful and courteous. I certainly recommend this camera and will be buying additional cameras as my older cameras of a different brand need replacing. The quality is well worth the price! I'll really only have one CON. On my cell phone, the app continues to run in the background after I close the app. I'm not sure if it is just using memory and chip time and/or using my WiFi or DATA. It would be nice if it would totally shut off when the APP closes. I include 2 pictures, a 1080P and a 480P so the reader can see the difference in picture size and quality.
I originally gave this camera 1 star because of issues I was having entering my WiFi password. But support personnel were very responsive and helpful. They worked with me via email convo and eventually provided a fixed firmware package which I installed on the camera to resolve the issue.
This is the perfect solution for keeping an eye on my spouse, for whom I'm a 24x7 caregiver, while giving her a sense of independence.
The video and audio streams are amazingly clear. The camera is in the same room as my WAP so lag is very small.
The Android and desktop apps lack polish and this is the only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars. But once you get them configured and just use them to watch the video feeds, they are acceptable.
BIG PLUS: This camera don't require any Internet access or "cloud services" to use on your local network. A must for tin-foil hat wearers such as myself. This means:
* All camera access is local to your home network. If the Internet is inaccessible but your home network is up, you can still use the camera. I believe the camera supports a configuration that allows you to access it from outside your home network via "cloud services", but it's not required and I don't need that.
* If you install a microSD card, all recordings are stored on the camera. If the Internet is inaccessible, this camera continues to record as long as it has power. There's no security risk of recordings uploaded to "cloud storage".
UPDATE: After discussions with Wansview support personnel I found out these cameras *do* utilize services external to my home LAN. The Wansview cameras support two connection types they call "P2P" and "IP". "P2P" connections utilize the external services. "IP" connections do not. The Wansview mobile apps support only "P2P" connections (presumably because the mobile devices could be located outside your home LAN). The Wansview Windows desktop app support both "P2P" and "IP" connections.
