This is a gorgeously illustrated book with outstanding paper quality. The fact that it's bound is amazing. I've tested all my mediums being, Derwent Inktense, Staedtler Finerliners, Stabilo 88's, Sharpie, Bic Mark-its and of course, colored pencils. All look amazing! The images are one sided so no worries with bleed through. There is also a clear protector page to insert behind each pic just in case.
I've purchased almost 50 coloring books in the last 9 months. This one beats them all. The plastic protector sheet, the top spiral binding and the quality paper show that the folks that crafted this book knew their stuff. Well worth the price. I can only beg for more!
I love this book! First I liked that its spiral bound, makes for easy page removal as I use my books as master copies in case I mess up or if I really like the design and want to do it again in different medium or colors.
The pages are thick like card stock so I am sure it would hold up to most all mediums. There are 2 plastic backing sheets included to provide protection between pages if you color in the book, also the back cover is very stiff so you can use on the road and not have to find a solid surface to color on.
There are 36 designs and mine came with a 2016 calendar page to color. I have included a few of the pages I have done so far. I would recommend this book if you do not have it already!
This color book is really pretty. I love the detail and thick paper. The designs are gorgeous and challenging to a newbie coloring book enthusiast. All in all, fits the bill exactly as needed for stress relief. Happy girl!
Got this coloring book for one of my nieces for Christmas. She loved it. Had so many different animals and designs. Keeps her busy for hours. Now have to get two more for my other nieces as they fight over this one. They don't want any of the other coloring books because they say they are boring. They love these. The pages are thick and comes with a clear plastic protector you can remove to whichever page you are on. Added a couple sample pictures of what's in this book but there are so many more and all different.

Normally I opt for the newly released coloring books. However, I love coloring nature scenes, and this one seemed like it might be loads of fun. While it does not have the intricate details that I immensely enjoy, it is out-and-out fun. I love the whimsical atmosphere that it creates, and I do recommend it. It is suitable for the teen/YA colorists as well as the senior painters, and all of those coloring enthusiasts in-between.
BLEED-THROUGH: There is no bleed-through with any wet medium. I used lots of gel pens, dual brush pens, water color pencils and a wet brush. Nary a leak on the back side! Although a removable plastic protection sheet is included, and should definitely be used, it wasn’t necessary.
BINDING: Spiral metal binding which makes for ease in coloring for both the left and the right-handed colorist. It makes coloring more comfortable for all concerned.
CONTENT: Humming birds, flowers, deer, gnarled trees, turtles, snakes, frogs, owls, toad stools and even a tiny fairy make up the contents of this delightful book. Oh yes, there is at least one page each with mischievous gnomes and an elegant peafowl. Bird houses, frogs, turtles and fish are also waiting to have some playful colors added to make them come alive. I loved the moth with its doodled body, and the owls are a bit challenging with their squiggled feathers.
COVER: The heavy press-board back cover makes for a rigid coloring surface if a desk or table is not available. Both front cover and back covers are protected with a strong, removable, flexible overlay which adds additional protection from normal wear and tear.
ILLUSTRATIONS: The illustrations are centered on the page and do not fall off the edge or into the spiral binding. The whimsical designs are hand-drawn by artist Kathryn Marlin. While the illustrations are not overly difficult, there are lots of small details that require a steady hand and fairly good eyesight. No matter what color scheme is used, the finished design can be an incredible picture.
MEDIA: This paper and gel pens love each other. I’m not a fan of this kind of coloring tool; however, I reached for my gel pens time and again. Some of the spaces are very tiny, and fine nib gel pens and markers seem to leave fewer coloring oopsies than colored pencils. Colored pencils and brush markers do an excellent job in the wider spaces, so grab all your tools and make nature come alive.
PAGES: The pages are not perforated; however a cutting line is shown to help with easy removal.
PAPER: Quality, artist grade paper that is comfortable with both wet and dry media. The paper is smooth, white and heavy. Nice and easy to color on! While wax-based colored pencils sometimes tend to clump up and not go on smoothly on some papers, they absolutely glide and blend beautifully on the pages of this book.
Coloring tools I used:
Gel pens: AmazaPens pastel & glitter; Technik glitter, Lexis gel
Colored pencils: Prismacolor Premier, Colore, Derwent metallic, Tombow Recycled. Markers: Tombow dual tipped, Prismacolor dual tipped
Love the pictures, the fact that they have included a detachable clear plastic coloring backer which prevents bleed through, and that it has a top spiral binder, so the pages flip over making it easy to color in my favorite recliner - because there's no fighting to keep the page open. I probably have a dozen coloring books, but I find myself going to this one time and time again. The pictures are intricate, making them interesting to color, but they're not so difficult that it takes forever to finish. My guess is, I'll buy another copy when I finish coloring this book. Kat Marlin did a great job.
I have many adult coloring books and this one is definitely different. I always use markers and with that in mind here are my opinions:
Pros
Spiral binding means you can use without tearing out of the book
Plastic sheet behind page leaves no bleed through
Cardboard back makes for portable coloring
The paper quality is excellent
Great variety of pictures to choose from
Con
Bleeds outside the lines unless I use a very light hand
Weighting the pros against only one con, that I control. This is the absolute best coloring book in my large collection.
Great pictures to color. I sided pictures and included in book is a thick plastic page that is removable and replaceable behind any picture you want to color. Therefore you can be assured that whatever you use to color in the pictures doesn't bleed onto next page. Its also not flimsy and locks into place thru the spiral binding. I think pictures are fantastic too
Haven’t even started coloring and I love it. The designs are really nice and have crisp lines (some books have faded/blurry lines). There are definitely some ‘silly’ ones, but a lot of really cool ones. The spiral ring at the top makes it really easy to color because the binding isn’t in the way. It’s not SUPER thick paper, but definitely thicker than regular paper and they give you a sheet to put under the drawing so it doesn’t bleed to the next picture.
