I purchased this for my HP laptop which came without the DVD drive. This was perfect solution for me to adding an external DVD player/burner.
I do not burn a lot of DVDs & CDs however once for a while I need to burn a media. The drive is plug and play, I did not have any problems to install and run with Windows 10 and windows 7.
The USB 3.0 is fast enough to do the job. This is a great drive I hope will serve me for a long time.
As I stated above this external DVD reader/burner is a perfect solution for DVD drive less with any laptop.

I burn a lot of DVDs & CDs and own several programs that need to be installed from an optical drive. Therefore, a computer without an optical drive has been useless to me. However, a situation has arrived where I needed a 2-in-1 computer with detachable monitor that I could use as a tablet. A friend gave me a birthday present a couple weeks ago, a new Surface Book to meet that requirement, but there was no optical drive. I searched online for portable drives. Sine my new computer has USB 3.0 ports, I wanted a drive that would take advantage of the ports. This seemed to be the ideal situation. I ordered through Amazon Prime and got free one day delivery. It came direct from the manufacturer. I plugged it in and played a CD with no problem. I had to install some software to play the DVDs, but fortunately I already own that software and the drive installed it perfectly. I then watched a DVD movie and it was perfect. What a great drive.
With CD and DVD media starting to be come obsolete, this external reader/burner is a must have for those with new laptop and tablet devices. We have old photos and data backed up on DVD and with the use of this device we can easily retrieve them. The unit is very lightweight so can easily be placed in a laptop bag. The USB wire tucks in perfectly under the unit which is great. I’m using this with a Windows 10 installation on a Surface Pro – plug and play.
Got a new laptop with no internal cd drive so I needed one of these to install certain programs like Photoshop. Love that the cord and usb tuck up under the unit for storage, so I don't have to find the right plug when I want to use it. Plug and play worked great, I did nothing at all not even a driver update, reads data quickly and no issues with computer interface. Bonus for me that it also plays DVDs and writes discs. I am using a Dell XPS with Windows 10 just as an FYI.
None of the laptops at my home had CD drive. These days CD players are considered old technology so you can't find them in market as much. So I had to order it online and what I got is great. I got this product to use with my laptop since the cd/dvd drive has stopped working in it. I love the way this unit is compact and has the cord attached to the bottom of the unit so I don't have to worry about losing the cord. It has all the same features that my malfunctioning one does and was easy to set up. Literally plug it in and that's it. I have already used it multiple times and am thrilled to have found it to restore my laptop to full function. Much cheaper than buying a new laptop.
This external CD drive is lightweighted, very convenient. A lot of compact laptop nowadays does not have internal CD dive any more. Whenever need to install software but network is not available, for example network has issues or software not working , Install software from external maybe the only option, in that case an external CD is needed. This one is easy to use, just plug in, and it can be recognized.
I ended getting a new work computer that did not have a CD-ROM inside of it. This was the perfect addition to my new computer. It is very lightweight and my favorite part is that the cord is attached and there is a little spot in the back of it so it doesn't get lost.
My father gave my 10 year old daughter a laptop he has had for a long time, the purpose was to watch movies as she doesn’t have a television on her room. We soon learned there was no spot for a dvd. I needed an external CD drive. My dinosaur of a laptop has a CD drive, but it fell of the bed while the drive was open and bent it. Now it won’t work, obviously. I needed to reload my printer (also a dinosaur) software. Job done. I was pleasantly surprised to see how light and compact the external CD drive was when I got it. Also loved that there was a storage space for the cord built into the back.
