Installation of the Auto Vox wireless reverse back up camera went well, although a bit challenging and slower as explained later, and the system operates nicely. For the install I had to buy 5’ of #22 bell cord at Home Depot in order to route the power wires up the side of the rear door of my 2010 Honda CR-V and then down to the bottom of the taillight to connect to the b/u light wires. I also glued two 3/16” thick nylon washers on the license plate bolt holes to provide clearance for running the cam cable behind the cam bracket, as well as drilled a 7/8” diameter hole w/ a multi-bit behind the rear license plate to run the cam cable and an included in-line rectangular box thru the door. I bought a 7/8” black plastic auto hole plug at Lowe’s, drilled a 5/32” hole in it for the cable and also split the side of of the plug the same to get the cable into the hole. For Honda CR-V owners: You can Google a good install video, but I recommend that you follow my preceding description of penetrating the rear door b/c the cam system in the video doesn’t have the in-line rectangular box on the camera cable.
Install time start to finish 30 minutes, difficulty level was minimal. Installed on a 2017 RAM 1500 crew cab. Just what was needed, Very pleased so far, for the price this can no be beat. I researched this before making the purchase, there is a reason it consistently gets five stars. I highly recommend this kit. Easy installation, high quality, and it works very well.
My wife is only 5' 2" so our Chevy Suburban has always been a challenge for her if she needed to put it in reverse. So this AutoVox RVS T1400W was just what we needed. I liked it because I didn't have to run wires down the entire length of the vehicle as with the common wired kits.
The monitor/visor installation was simple; just strap it on and hide the wires! The camera/reverse light/wireless transmitter wiring, on the other hand, requires a bit of handiness and basic wiring experience. Thankfully, I was not the first person to install an after-market backup camera kit on a Suburban, as I found install tips on good ol' YouTube. This made the last bits much easier to sort out, and the job was finished in just a couple hours.
There is a small amount of flickering when the monitor is activated, and that is certainly due to distance of transmitter to receiver and maybe some ambient electro-magnetic interference. I may pop open the rear panels on the Suburban and make some location adjustments, but it won't be today. LOL.
Honestly, seeing that this item purports to be "wireless", I wish the installation on the back-end was simpler, but I can't figure-out what I would change it if I was the Design Engineer, seeing that there are so many automobile types and styles to cater to.
Overall, my wife is much more confident when backing up the monster-on-wheels and the LED lights at night ensures the benefit is available 24/7.
I have hard wired this in to the fuse panel and much happier with the look. The initial install the picture was grainy and snowy when put into reverse. I knew right away, bad ground connection. And I was right. I got rid of the plastic clamp and wired directly to a ground wire properly with heat shrink tubing and viola, CRYSTAL CLEAR picture.
Though not that easy to install in my 13-year-old W164, it was worth every hour spent (okay, I love that car)! I do agree with the guy on YouTube who stated "Mercedes engineers the # out of everything" - gosh, getting the tailgate panel off and on again was a little nightmare (well, for me at least). Whatever, the sturdy parts of this camera kit are everything you need to get a high quality and reliable view of what's going on behind your car. Plus, I really enjoy the integration of the screen into the mirror - highly recommend AUTO VOX!

This product fit worked great out of the box. It works well on my Honda Ridgeline. I went with a wireless system because I didn't want the hassle of running wires into the cab of the truck. Installation went very well except for one problem (entirely my own fault). I was a bit worried that the wireless transmitter and receiver wouldn't communicate with the transmitter in the bed trunk. However, it worked without any issues.
There was one problem about 2 months after installation... I found that the display in the mirror would not work all of the time. Most often first thing in the morning. It would work later in the day though. I contacted the service group via email, and we did some trouble shooting. It was determined that the system was not working correctly when it become too cold outside. The troubleshooting found that the display was the problem, and AutoVox sent me a new one. No issues with the new display/mirror.
Last thing... After finding the problem with the display, I was worried that I was just out of luck on this purchase as I was past the Amazon return window. However, AutoVox was very easy to work with and fixed the problem. I am pleased with their support after the purchase and would but from them again."
I had to do a custom install as this went in my Ford F350 Super duty truck with utility bed and the license plate isnt centered and I wanted this to line up hitch on trailers.
So I opened box it was all there, intructions easy to read, first I unboxed and put the Mirror Screen over mine and it fit very well, then plugged it in tocharge, went to back of vehicle and found temporary power and simply made sure it all came on and the two linked. It did.
I then drilled and vut a hole out in my bumper, installed camera, ran wires from under truck into back storage compartment where the back up lights are located and used the white neutral for ground and the blue 12V for power , got it all installed and the pictures show what ive done so far.
it works , last thing I need to do is make small hood/cover for it to make sure it doesnt kick smashed into as it protrudes out bit but the location makes it dead on accurate to meet my ball hitch to trailer hitch as the red stop line on viewer is accurate.
Ill update on long term quality and functions in rain, dark, bright sun etc later..
I gave this 4 stars only because its a bit cheaply built and no way it can take any punishment with being made out of plastic..
It took me about 2 total hours to install start to finish but like I said I didnt do it as per instructions for no tool license plate mount.. I made my own custom install location that was hard and required Sawzall and hammer drill etc..
My husband purchased this for me for our new van. I was upset that our new family van did not have a back up camera because I was so used to having one in my equinox. I had been spoiled with it! Once you have one you don’t want to go without one! It has saved me numerous times in the parking lot when people hurry and try to race pass you when you are trying to back out! This cam is awesome!! The picture is clear and it is nice and wide on the mirror screen!! It comes on as soon as I put my car in reverse! It even has the back up lines to help as well! We searched for a camera that would be good quality and easy to install! The reviews were awesome on this camera so we went ahead and made the purchase! I am so glad that we did! If you are looking for a back up cam that is good quality this is it!!!
Purchased this because we have children all around the neighborhood and need to often back out into the street. The picture quality is great most of the time have had some times when it flickers but found that was the connections that made not the device. So I replaced the connections with solder joints in place of the splice and it cleared up. Works great until you get it covered with snow or dirt but that's just part of the maintenance to clean it off when that happens. Did have a couple of events where the battery was dead after leaving it plugged in. I've replaced the battery even though it measured good and have got into the habit of unplugging the mirror portion when I know the car will not be driven for several days, this is our secondary car and so it is often not driven for long periods of time.
I installed this on my 2012 Jetta and the results are fairly impressive. My installation was just about 2 hours and it took me at least a half hour just to run the wires from the mirror through the headliner down the trim and under the dash. I don't know how someone can install the whole system in 20 minutes, as some have written here.
Installing the system on a Jetta is a bit more challenging than most cars due to two reasons. The first is that the backup lights are on the trunk lid, which means all components have to be installed on the trunk lid and under the trim. However, finding the correct wires to splice into was a snap. The second challenge was that as supplied, the camera and bracket don't have enough clearance under the trunk lip. This required me to install the bracket upside down and remount the camera itself to the bracket.
Picture quality is pretty good but there is a lot of glare in bright sunshine. Also, since the mirror fits over the existing rear-view mirror, its added weight caused the mirror to drop down from where I positioned it. I fixed this by taking the factory mirror off the windshield and placing some material around the ball so that there's more friction.
