I'm a professional seamstress, and have been using the same machine for the last 23 years. Last week I had to take my steady Eddy into the shop for the first time ever, and needed a replacement/backup ASAP. It would be easy for me to go completely overboard on a new machine, but we just bought a new house so the budget is cinched very tight right now. So I ordered this one. It arrived right on time, I took it out of the box and strung some denim gold thread through it and went straight through a pair of jeans, like butter. It hung up and hummed just a little at the tripled over flatbed seam (12 layers of stretch denim), but did go right through after that and it did everything else beautifully. And the finished seam looked exactly like a factory hem. The stitch length was dead on and the machine didn't get cranky over that heavy topstitch thread like my regular machine. Then I got a piece of scrap purple satin and played around with the settings, I went up and down with bright white thread changing the stitch and the stitch length just to see what they all look like. One word "WOW", she's a dynamite little honey, and fast too. The scrap bit was so fun my daughters were fighting over it last night.

I sew a lot. I’ve retired from my sewing business. And was accustomed to using $5000+ machines with fabulous options. Having a tune up on a fancy computerized sewing machine costs MORE that this new machine costs. Hmmmm, you do the math
I only miss 3 features from my old high-end machines:
1. Needle up/needle down button...easy to live without
2. Speed regulation for detailed work when I must...go...slow...
3. Automatic button hole maker. This has the one-step buttonhole, but it will keep sewing around and around and around. I have to stop sewing at the right time (no problem). But the system does not reset after completion of each button hole. Guessing the new starting position on the subsequent button hole is a crapshoot. Exiting, then straight sewing on a scrap, then returning to the button hole again might be the solution. I’m still new to this machine and finding it’s little quirks.
Overall I’m loving the versatility and stitch quality. I’m not having any difficulty at all. I’d highly recommend this machine. It has many key features and is a great home use machine. Heavy duty to boot!

Old habits die hard. I am a stay at home seamstress and do arts and crafts show at least once a month. I was sewing hours a day on my old faithful Singer 247 until the timing needed to be readjusted. I had used this machine for the past 20 years and was very hardheaded about giving it up. Not saying I won’t fix my original one, gifted to me by my grandmother on Christmas morning when I was 11, because I certainly will, and will eventually teach my daughter how to sew on it as I learned. I decided finally to upgrade to something a little fancier as my business is continually growing. I don’t know how I sewed this long without this machine. It is a workhorse and a half. I chose this model based on the heavy duty description, as I really do sew for hours a day.

Other reviews complained a little about the noise, but it is whisper quiet compared to my old tank. I love the clear bobbin window so I can keep track of my thread. The LED light is also very nice and the seam allowances are stamped onto the plate with fractions. As you can tell, I am used to sewing on a very old machine, so all these little upgrades are a huge deal to me. I haven’t sat down to figure out the automatic threader yet as I was super excited to get to work on this thing. The buttonhole option is easy to use and makes beautiful buttonholes. I’m looking forward to exploring the various stitch options. My only regret is not paying more attention to the differences between the models. I probably would have bought the 4452 to be able to have the extra accessories and feet included in that package, and now I have most of them on my wish list to get for Christmas. I am extremely happy with this machine and would recommend it to any sewist looking for a good, dependable machine. I call it my 247 from the future. Do not hesitate to buy this machine!

Super fast sewing machine. It definitely gets the job done fast. It also lives up to its super duty name and can go through several layers of thick fabric. The auto threader is hit or miss -- I end up threading my own needle 90% of the time.

Great swing machine, I use it do projects for my boat. Works great with Sunbrella (3 layers)

Great choice. Fast and steady. Great for small items and large bulky projects. Accomplishes long runs (drapery adjustments) at high speeds with even stitches once stitch length, style, thread and tension are in synch. I’ve been making my own notes in booklet.
Bought originally for gift. Rebought to update
mine.
Be prepared; a bit hard on needles. Do use videos. Still haven’t mastered threader.
I lost one of the thread caps and found Singer website does suggest regional sources for online purchase of parts.
Tension is key.
Breaking thread really is from bent needle.

Once I finally got the pressure settings correct on it and figured out how the bobbin is threaded (different than standard bobbin) it has worked great. Don't count on the pictures and instructions in the book to be of much help because they are vague at the best. And the diagrams are sub-quality. But with some intuition and playing around and reading and rereading the instructions, I finally got everything working correctly and it's a great machine.

I was a little nervous picking out a sewing machine because I'm a beginner. I wanted something simple yet strong, something that will last me years and years. My grandma and mom were sewers and there was always a machine around, sturdy and reliable through the years. Since I'm a beginner I can't justify spending more than this on it really. Some reviewers said it seized up on them or was broken out of the box. I was relieved when I did not have that trouble. It works fantasticly! Very even stitches no matter the speed I go. Very easy to thread and to operate. It comes with an excellent instruction book that's been helpful to me. It gives instruction on the basic machine functions along with some beginners sewing tips like which type of stitch, fabric, thread combinations are best. Or how to do a basic hem. I went with the heavy duty because I thought it might last longer. Also because I don't want to feel limited to light fabrics. I have some ideas for some projects with canvas and I don't think there will be any issues. I'm well pleased with this machine. I've only been tinkering with it for a few days, but so far no issues of any kind. I love this thing already!

Admittedly, I'm brand new to using a sewing machine, but I wanted to try to make some new patio chair slings, so I thought I'd give this machine a try because it's supposed heavy duty for a home machine plus it had pretty good reviews. This machine didn't disappoint. It had plenty of power to go through multiple layers of Sunbrella fabric smoothly. It took me a little to get to "know" the machine and adjust my settings correctly, but once I got the hang of it this machine performed flawlessly. Plus, I got this as an Amazon warehouse buy, so it was super deal, but even if I'd paid the brand new price, I'd still be super happy with this purchase.

Wonderful machine! I've owned this machine for 3+ years and never had a problem. I used to work in professional costume shops, so I'm used to working on all metal machines from the last century. This machine is a FAST at home machine. No one needs a million special stitches (they just break the machine anyways!). Instead this machine offers the main stitches you'll need at a speed you can't pass up! This machine is very fast. While it gets a little loud at top speed, I am very happy to say that I haven't seen it drop any stitches or screw up the tension as the speed increases.
