MyQ Smart Garage Door Opener Chamberlain MYQ-G0301 - Wireless & Wi-Fi enabled Garage Hub with Smartphone Control

Very cool! Got it today and installed it. Took about 25 min, but I took my time through the instructions. Had to use the separate instruction sheet for Apple phones. Looks like it was a process to join the hubs wifi in order to enter my wifi router's info. I was going to give it 4 stars since it was $100, but then I started playing with the app and it has some pretty cool settings. I like the warning beeps and light flashing to warn anyone the door is closing - smart. Learned I have a Lift Master door opener - 5 years in the house and never looked up to notice.

UPDATE: So this is what I set up in the app after a some playing around -
- Tell me when the door is opened or closed - pops up on my phone, also saved in history list
- Warn me that the door was left open longer than 15 minutes - in case we forgot to close it
- automatically close the door every night at 10:30 - so our door won't be open all night (has happened)

This is a very cool gadget to an existing garage door!
The reason I give it a 4-stars and not 5 is because the installation guide and instructional video are missing a crucial step that slowed me down...

The "hidden" essential step was to open a browser and go to: setup.myqdevice.com this will help you connect the MyQ Smart Garage Hub to your home WiFi

I hope this review helps and will save you ~15 minutes wait time for their support line :)

So I tried to buy this used from Amazon Warehouse, bad idea. Really bad idea. Until a future update is pushed out these are locked to one account forever and can't be reset for a new user. Kind of pissed Amazon even wasted my time by selling it to me.

Chamberlain's customer service was really kind and understanding but didn't mince words about me not being able to use my used unit in the immediate future. So I got a new one and had it set up and working in under an hour.

The guide is very specific about how to set it up, and you really need to follow it if you want to avoid any hassle or trouble. For instance. The sensor unit needs to go on the top panel of your garage door. No ifs, ands, or buts. And the hub unit needs to be mounted very near where the garage door stops when in the lifted position.

I like trying to use my own easier configurations all the time, and I really hate heights. But after messing around with some ideas that didn't require me to get on a ladder I decided to play it by the book and now it works perfectly 100% of the time.

Seriously, everything the little quick start booklet says needs to be followed as closely as possible if you want this to work properly. Two bars of wifi, cieling mounted hub unit, sensor on the top panel, all of it.

My one mild complaint is the seemingly excessive safety measures taken when you close the door. The alarm is, well, alarming. And the flashing lights tend to frighten people who aren't expecting them. I've seen Craftsman smart garages that just close like normal. I'd really prefer to not have a small light show announcing my door is closing every time.

Awesome wifi garage opener and very easy to setup! I was up and running in 15 minutes hooking this up to my 15 year old Craftsman garage door opener. The package contains one hub and one sensor to control one garage door. The hub can control 2 doors, so if you have 2 doors, you will have to buy an additional sensor(https://www.amazon.com/Chamberlain-G821LMB-Sensor-Garage-Sensor-Myq-G0301/dp/B078C95181). If you have more than 2 garage doors, you will have to purchase an additional kit with a hub and sensor(https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075H7Z5L8). Few pointers:

1. Make sure the location of the hub will have a good wifi signal. This is extremely critical and I feel like this is one of the main reasons for many peoples' frustration with the kit
2. Make sure you attach the sensors on the top panel of the garage door with a clear line of sight to the hub
3. There is a small insert with instructions. Follow them closely
4. Once you power on the hub, you will have to connect to the hub's wifi and go to setup.myqdevice.com. This step is needed to connect the hub to your home wifi network
5. Once you get a confirmation that step 4 is successful, install the MyQ app and follow instructions there. Be sure to select the proper values for your garage door opener and the color of the learning button inside it. This will make setup extremely easy and pain-free!

+ Easy install and setup. From the time I opened the box until it was fully installed and setup was about 1 hour. (i.e. skimmed the quick start guide, downloaded the app, programmed the hub, mounted the hub to the ceiling, mounted the sensor to the door, programmed my garage door opener, cleaned up).

+ Intuitive app. Walks you through hub setup, sensor testing, garage door opener programming. Once setup up, easy to navigate between different devices and settings. Options to setup alerts for each time the garage is opened or close, schedule the door to open/close at a specific time of the day. Displays elapsed time door has been opened or closed.

- pre-closing warning tone is louder than I'd prefer... no obvious way to adjust the volume

- would be better if you could monitor/control the door via a website and not just the app

It's really a simple device and easy to install. I installed it and got it up and running in less than an hour. No hubs or anything else is needed -- other that a wi-fi signal. Works as expected and I will buy the second sensor, soon.

When you open or close the door remotely, the unit beeps pretty loud and the light flashes about 5 seconds before it actually moves. That's a bit annoying. But if you think about it, that makes sense in the scenario where someone is in the garage and they have no idea the door is about to move. Besides, you're rarely activating it while inside the garage.

The wireless sensor is powered by an included battery (CR2450). No idea how long it's supposed to last, but the app is supposed to notify you when the battery lets low.

I really like this device - it works well with my older opener. Phone app has useful controls and alerts, letting me know if the door is up or down, left up for an extended period, etc. It was easy to connect, about an hour, and has a good range to connect to my router.

My only issue is that it doesn't connect to Alexa. To me the reliable phone app is most important, but Alexa connectivity would make it ideal. It seems like such an easy thing to do. I guess this smart device isn't all that smart.

One tip: the MyQ did stop closing the garage door for a few days. After a little online digging, though, I discovered that the led light bulbs I had just installed in the opener emit interference, which kept the opener from closing the door - only the wired button would do it. I replaced the bulbs with non-led and it works fine.

The MyQ hub is very easy to install. I couldn't get my iPhone to connect to the hub (was using Bluetooth, I think I was supposed to connect with WiFi maybe?) but I used the WPS feature on my router and it connected almost right away.
Installation in the garage was very simple with a cordless drill, and the unit immediately 'learned' my Craftsman garage door signal. I now get notifications on my iPhone when the door opens and closes and if it stays open longer than I want I have the ability to close it remotely. I'm very happy with the unit and would recommend to anyone who wants to have remote access and information for a Chamberlain brand garage door opener.

The package arrived on time and it only took 15 minutes to install. It actually let's you open and close the garage from your phone and it shows how long the door is open or closed. I was also able to connect it to my Nest camera and my Xfinity system, so that was a bonus. Works great and does what it says.

Easy to install, works fantastic! A little networking knowledge is helpful to install, but with the peace knowing your garage door is closed when it is supposed to be from anywhere in the internet world, this product is well worth the price! I have had many people tell me they have turned around mid trip to make sure their garage is closed, but they don't see the need for this product. This is a solid solution people! It is so simple and works so well that it really is a no-brainer! I find myself checking the app often, and with the push notification that my garage door opened, I always know when family arrives home or leaves. I had to let a dryer repairman into the garage before I could arrive and he was amazed I opened my garage remotely. If I could geek out a little more, I would like to see a geo fence added to this so when I entered the fence....my garage would open. I also set it up to automatically close my garage at 10:30p.m. nightly if I happened to forget to do it manually. There is no worse feeling to going into your garage in the morning and realizing you left your garage door open all night! Come on now....., you have all done that right? I totally recommend this and I absolutely love it! It took me under 30 minutes to install! It has dropped from my network one time, but I was able to reset my router and it came back just fine! Enjoy!
