I'm downgrading my star rating from 5 to 4 because the release mechanism does not always work. I have to fuss with it to convince it to release the ratchet while I suck gut. Sometimes it releases quickly. Other times it is stubborn. However, I would rather put up with this stubborn release button than go back to a conventional belt with holes in it. If you want a ratchet belt with a better release mechanism check out the Comfort Click belt. I prefer the look of the Marino buckle but I miss the smooth release of the Comfort Click belt buckle.

After trying ratchet style belts I won't wear any other kind.
Before you stand up you can easily tighten the belt without being too obvious. When you sit down you can easily loosen the belt.
Pros:
Great design.
Buckle ratchet works well and is pretty quiet.
More settings than a conventional belt.
Buckle looks attractive yet simple.
Belt can be cut more than one time to gradually custom fit it to your body.
Quality flexible leather which is more comfortable than thick leather on the spine.
Reasonable price.
This belt will probably look better longer than a belt with holes in it where the leather cracks over time due to bending the belt back to buckle it.
Great solution for men with big round guts like mine who refuse to wear suspenders and are tortured by conventional belts.

Suggestion for cutting the belt to size:
First sit down with your pants and belt on. Adjust the belt to your biggest, loosest comfortable setting. See how much excess leather extends past the buckle and pant loop where the belt excess ends up. Measure how much to cut off. Make sure you leave enough leather to grab onto when you stand up and want to tighten the belt. This may seem obvious but I will mention it anyway: cut the excess leather from the end that inserts into the belt teeth. Don't cut off the tapered end. I went conservative the first time and only cut off a little bit. After wearing the belt for a half hour plus standing and sitting it became obvious how much more I needed to cut off. Fortunately, the belt design makes it easy to cut the belt more than once until you get it to your optimum length.
As a means of comparison I also bought a Comfort Click belt on Amazon. I think the Marino leather is slightly better quality but I prefer the function of the Comfort Click buckle because it is slightly easier to loosen than the Marino. On the other hand, the ratchet on the Marino is a little quieter. They are both good belts. I would buy either one again.
Some of us men have inflatable midsections, at times expanding until they strain our belts, and at other times shrinking until our belts flap loosely. These are great belts. They don't give like a lot of belts. The quality was better than expected. These are really well made. On the downside, it will take you a little bit to get used to latching mechanism. There is a little trick to it. Push the belt just a hair tighter to ease the pressure on the latch and the belt opens easily. However, the first time I tried I couldn't do it. I absolutely love these belts and I have bought several. I have several different brands and I like this brand the best.
The out of box experience was first rate. The box was black, substantial and sophisticated. Inside the box, the belt was coiled and accompanied by a quality matching key fob. A nice touch.
The belt strap is one size fits all. The backside of the belt is marked to assist in cutting the strap to length. The leather cut easily and cleanly. The strap has never become separated from the buckle.
I mention this because I owned a higher end ratchet belt and I was constantly trimming the strap because it was always being ripped from the buckle.
I love the technology behind the ratchet belt. The belt fits perfectly every time. No more wearing a belt too loose or too tight. No more taking a belt to the shoe shop to have holes punched. I will never buy any other type of belt again.

I have always had trouble with belts not fitting right and with wear around the holes. The ratchet mechanism works perfectly, maintaining the perfect fit all day and is easy to open. The leather is of good quality and matches my dark brown shoes. The buckle is not too bright and is low profile (width, height and thickness), which is good for my slim waist. Super easy setup by cutting with scissors along sized lines provided on the back for a custom fit, followed by insertion of leather into buckle with a press fit closure that is strong and doesn't require any tools to close. Tip: to open, squeeze top and bottom together between two fingers where tab is, then move belt in a direction to tighten it. That's right, in the direction of tightening even though it sounds counterintuitive. Once you do that, you'll be able to squeeze the mechanism fully, unlocking the belt and allowing it to slide through easily in the direction of loosening. After a few days of wearing, I looked for the black one and it was not in stock! I bought the other Marino ratchet with Linxx style buckle, which appears newer, so I'll see how it compares. I'm worried that the newer model's buckle might be bulkier. Will update it write a review on that one to compare
Where do I begin...
The belt:
This belt is ridiculously comfortable and I have no complaints. I wear it every day with my firearm. The belt itself has held up amazingly. I unfortunately had a faulty belt buckle that broke after using it for a few months, so my wife contacted customer service through email.
Customer Service:
This is by far the best customer service I have ever dealt with. My wife wrote them and explained the situation with the buckle, included a screenshot of our order and order number from Amazon, and they wrote back a few days later to apologize for the issue we had and to offer a full replacement belt. They told her we would get tracking in a few days. They came through with it, when my wife remembered I had it shipped to my work address while I was out of state. She contacted them to let them know i was home helping her recover from surgery. They then wrote her back requesting the new address after confirming the work address is where it had been sent. The customer service rep Alexi even told her she hopes for a quick recovery and gave her the new order number.
We will be ordering more products from Mio Marino. They have lifetime customers.
I purchased this belt as I tend to lose and gain weight, a lot. My tailor hates me. That being said my usual belt I either have it right or the fabric of my waist is so folded over I have to distribute the excess material. With this belt there are almost infinite levels I can adjust to. Ok, it's not infinite but instead of a hole every inch I can ratchet it an 1/8 of an inch or so. This lets me adjust to hold up my pants without the fabric puckering and looking terrible. Keeps the belt looking like new versus huge creases around the hole(s() I use most often for belt. Allows for adjusting between levi dockers and suit as the fabric is thicker and again the leather looks like new since there is no crease.
I own 4 different colors of this belt. Ratchet belts are my favorite type of belts and I own more than 25 of all different brands. What I like about the Mio Marino belts is that they are slightly narrower than all of my others making them ideal for a true dress belt with slacks and suit pants. The simplicity of the buckle resembling a traditional buckle with the convenience of quick adjustability makes it the perfect belt for me. I love how rich the colors are, not looking artificial or plastic looking, and I love the squared tapered ends as opposed the round ends on many others. The stiffness compares to other traditional belts instead of the limber looking belts of some other brands. The buckle mechanism works flawlessly and the gunmetal color works with silver or black accessories such as watches or jewelry. To sum it up this is an excellent belt with price, quality, and functionality being the best on the market for this type of belt.
This Rachet Click Belt was my first Mio Marino belt. A couple of busy months later I own at least 5 Mio Marino belts and will be happy to buy (and receive as gifts) more. My three Ratchets are all kinda vintage, Art Deco & western, yet formal enough to match a suit (especially a vintage suit) and dress-up other work-formal wear (vintage blazer & chinos). This buckle design is as straight-forwardly elegant as it appears in photos. Quality of this belt (of all Mio Marino belts) is superbly presented right in and out of the box. Only takes a moment to customize the strap length. Strap and buckle have the mass and finish that is professionally or causally elegant. For these Ratchet belts, I ordered strap colors and textures that matched each of my buckles highlights, so that I could swap straps (or buckles) as I wished for a different belt looks. Great system aided by strong yet smooth buckle mechanisms. Fantastic purchase.
