At one third the price, eats the soundlink mini 2 for breakfast.. Sounds fuller at any volume and can go a notch or two higher almost without losing its composure.. (the soundlink mini 2 is known to distort very badly at high volumes)
Could even be the best under $100 because of the versatility
Indoors or outdoors, low level, ambient listening or parties(capable of filling a small living room)
Thank you Douni for the great features at a bargain price.. and @clavinetjunkie for close to perfect tuning..
I purchased this speaker after first learning about it from an online video review by clavinetjunkie. I have been tinkering with electronics and Hi-Fi gear for nearly 50-years, and have not been impressed with most Bluetooth speakers. The Bose SoundLink Mini and Mini II were not without flaws, but they raised the bar significantly a few years ago. Unfortunately, like most Bose products, they were overpriced in my opinion. Since then the market has been flooded with Bluetooth speakers - some good, some not - and prices have come down. The biggest acoustic challenges for small speaker engineers are 1) creating a sound stage that is as wide as possible, 2) obtaining an appropriate level of bass, and 3) tuning what you've got so it doesn't sound "boxy." I still don't know much about who Douni the company is, but I think they hit a home run with this speaker, and recommend it without reservation. I recently received a Bose SoundLink Color II as a Christmas gift from my employer. It's OK, but I honestly wouldn't spend my own money on it. It costs twice as much as the Douni A7, but in comparison the sound stage is narrow and the deep bass level is lacking.
I am very pleased with this bluetooth speaker. Here is how I assess it:
Cons:
- No battery charge-level indicator. "On" light which blinks on and off blue during operation but changes to blinking blue and red just before battery is totally discharged.
- No volume indicator
- No ability to pair with second speaker for stereo mode
Pros:
- Speaker sounds great! Bass is strong but not distorted at low volume. Treble is clean, distinct, and smooth. With phone set at max volume, I only turn up speaker volume 4 "clicks" from off for good background listening in a 12' x 12' room. Volume level continues up to at least 50 "clicks". I can't imagine a noisy enough environment that would require playing the speaker anywhere near half volume or higher.
- Bluetooth pairing with my Samsung phone is easy and after pairing, is automatic when speaker is turned on.
- Bluetooth range is at least 55 feet and through 2 interior walls. I did not determine its limit.
- At background playing volume, I can hear background amplifier hiss when music is paused. However, to hear it, I have to put my ear right next to the speaker. There seems to be a circuit in the speaker which detects the pause in music and within about 2 seconds, turns the amplifier gain down so the hiss becomes inaudible. This happens in both bluetooth and aux-input mode. So for my speaker, background hiss is no issue at all.
- Battery charging time from complete discharge seems to be about 4 hours using my phone AC charger.
- Control buttons light up in dim light when my hand comes near the top of the speaker: a nice design feature. The buttons have a nice audible and tactile click when pushed.
- All battery-operated speakers will eventually not take a charge once the battery fails. Douni states that this speaker does not have replaceable batteries. However, in contrast to some speakers that require difficult disassembly, this speaker seems fairly straight-forward to repair. The rear speaker grill can be removed by carefully prying it off with a thin pry tool which reveals a rear inner panel which is easily removed with screws. That uncovers the entire rear of the speaker including the two 2200 mAh batteries. New batteries of this size are readily available on Amazon. Google "Douni A7 disassembly" to see a video which shows the batteries.
Excellent sound, especially for its size. Paired easily. I subtracted one star for what I feel is a substantial flaw; like many electronics manufacturers these days Douni seems overly enamored with very bright, blue LEDs. When this speaker is on and connected to Bluetooth, not only is a bright LED on, but it flashes, making this speaker pretty worthless in a dark room, or to use to play soft music while falling asleep.

-The voice sounded caged.
-Hearing this bluetooth speaker sounds like the grill is blocking off most of the sound

When it comes to music, it's subjective. So I think it's better to let you guys know what I usually use and then you can estimate based on that. I put it right below my monitor and use it as a PC speaker (although last night I took it on bed and connected to my tablet). Before I bought it, I use my Sony h.ear MDR-100ABN. Before that, I used to wear Bose QC25 all the time (it was broken, long story). The point is, I only listen to music when it's quiet because otherwise you have to turn up the volume and that over time hurts your hearing. Besides, when there's noise around, you can't tell the very fine details, you just listen to the music, not enjoy it. Now I am at home, if I had to turn on the AC, I will still use my Sony; otherwise I use A7.
Now the pros, it's pretty sturdy, I know it's not a good word for speaker, but it's heavy, it feels like it would have good sound quality. The sound from my subjective mind, is pretty good. They seemed to boost the base so you can feel it when you put it on the desk. Also, mid frequency seems to be very clear (can't speak for the high, I don't listen too much music with really high pitch). How about it's microphone? I don't know. I don't use is to make phone calls nor Siri or Google assistant. How about it's battery? I don't know, I use it plugged in (I don't bring it outside, as I said, if the outside is noise, you are not enjoying the music just listen to it). The Bluetooth is pretty good although I don't know whether it suffers long distance (I connect it to my tablet and PC both with Bluetooth).
The cons, well, where the heck is the charger? I would like to remove a star for that! But I got plenty of USB chargers, so I will let it go (specifically, it asks for a 5V charger and my tablet (Nexus 9) charger is 5V so I just use that; with my desktop, I charge it using the USB 5V outlet on the back of my monitor).
I am quite astonished how this speaker system sounds. I spent hours researching stereo bluetooth speakers in this category and decided to try this unit. It has a well rounded sound. Lots of bass. Good mids and no screeching highs. Lots of power.
The bass won't shake the room but for the size of the unit it does extremely well. You will wonder how such a small speaker systems sounds like it does.
Pairs easy
Charge lasts a long time considering the power output.
Hands free calls with built-in mic.
Make sure you order an adapter for the included USB cable unless you have a spare hanging around..
I got the A7 a few months back to replace an older portable speaker. I didn't expect much difference in sound quality, so maybe my average expectations is what helped this thing blow me away. It sounds f****** great. I couldn't be more impressed at this price and size of the speaker. It sounds better than a lot of the portable JBL speakers I've heard, and better than a lot of portables in general, as many of them are just marketing in a box *cough*bose*cough*beats*cough*. Woah there, looks like I need some cough medicine. Anyway, if you need a portable speaker get this one, unless you have over $100 to pay for another one, as I don't see any speaker under $100 getting much better than this.
This speaker is amazing, I don't expecting this quality with this price. I am not a professional musician, so I can not use professional term to describe how great this speaker performance. As a normal user, I only concern the surround sound quality, bass ,clear and hum. Comprehensive these factors, I have to give it a “like". It has long battery, when I charge the speaker over night, I can listen three or four days, around three hours per day. Bluetooth is basic requirement for speaker now, so I am not mention again.
Final conclusion I quote someone's word buy ,buy,buy.......😁
Pros:
Value - Really hard to beat the quality for the price.
Sound - Impressive bass, generally sounds clean
Battery life - Easily gets a few hours out at high volume before needing a recharge.
Cons:
Reconnecting - If someone else pairs a device to your A7 you'll need to initiate another Bluetooth connection from your device. My iPhone connects very quickly, it's a pretty small issue.
Rubber feet - The feet don't dampen enough vibration while resting on a metal surface. No issues when it's on wood though.
Closing Thoughts:
One of my friends has a Bose Soundlink 2. We both strongly prefer the Douni. The Douni has much easier Bluetooth, is louder, and has better battery life. We think the sound on the A7 is slightly better too. I liked it enough that I bought another as a birthday gift for a friend.
