Reviewed: HABOR model FC 185 Oral Irrigator.
Waterpik® popularized the concept of home water flossing; but like inventing a BETTER mouse trap, HABOR, essentially, wholly reinvented the device with a much better, more easily usable and, probably, more dependable design (I haven't had it long enough to fully address long-term dependability), from the placement and operation of the setting controls, to the conveniently coiled hose that retracts into a recess in the unit body, eliminating hose cluttering. In my opinion, the HABOR product is an ingenious redesign of the oral irrigation device, from, literally, its unobtrusively suction-cupped bottom -- up.
Background: I bought my first Waterpik, discussed here, over 25 years ago. It was a good unit, and lasted over 20 years, before developing a problem with the handle mechanism. The replacement Waterpik -- a more current model -- that I immediately bought, though, was a far inferior and more troublesome unit than was their old model. When this new Waterpik unit went ker-flooey after about only two or three years; and as, apparently, and in my opinion, Waterpik had come to regard quality control as of little importance, I looked for a different brand to replace it. So far (after about a week) I have been impressed with the design and function of my new HABOR unit.
Detailed product comparison
(This compares the HABOR FC 185 (about $32.), to my most recent Waterpik product, a "Classic" "Water Flosser (model WP-65W), bought about three years ago, for about $35.):
Exterior profile: The HABOR unit fits more concisely, taking up far less space on the sink or countertop. As mentioned, the bottom has small suction cups to reduce sliding around, or risk of falling off.
Settings and control mechanism: The Waterpik had six pressure settings (for me, four are enough), which are mounted on the handle, and tended to stick and be hard to move (from when it was new) with the thumb. The HABOR features a continuously-adjustable (like a rheostat) dial, mounted on the body, which, for me, is far more accessible in use, and much easier to use.
Pause control: Both units have a pause control mounted on the handle. The Waterpik's, which seems to merely block or divert the water stream, began to malfunction soon after the unit was new, and its sticking was the ultimate cause of the unit becoming unusable. The HABOR's pause control is actually an on-off slide switch on the handle which actually stops the pump -- a much more dependable design, and easy to use.
Hose clutter: The HABOR unit's water hose is permanently coiled (like some garden hoses) and conveniently retracts into a recess in the unit's body.
Reservoir: The Waterpik's was 1000 ml (about a quart); the HABOR's is only 600 ml. I thought this might be a problem, but due to the water-saving way the HABOR works, it proved wholly adequate to the job, and contributes to the unit's concise profile on the sink. The Waterpik's reservoir valve (at the bottom) stuck open and leaked pretty-much from the get-go, often producing a watery mess on the sink and floor. So far, the HABOR's valve seems to work properly.
Tips & reservoir lid: The Waterpik came with only three tips, which store (and take up counter space) on the side of the unit body. The reservoir is open at the top -- I used a plastic bag as a dust cover. The HABOR unit came with 3 regular tips (in case you have multiple wives (gosh, what guy would have the time for that?), or, goodness forbid, children); and 5 specialized tips, all of which store, protected, in the handy removable reservoir cover. (If you like to leave your "usual" tip in the handle, you can still put a "snack bag" over it, as a dust cover; and keep the other 7 handy in the reservoir lid.)
Pressure and pulsation frequency: For my purposes, both units had adequate pressure, and pulsation frequency. On the HABOR unit, the pressure setting dial also appears to regulate the pulsation frequency, which, for some people, may make it more comfortable. At lower to mid-range pressure settings, the pulsation rate may seem a bit slower than the Waterpik's, but, for me, has been wholly adequate for a thorough cleaning.
Warranty: Waterpik - 2 yr.; HABOR: 3 yr.
At first look I thought, "This thing is too small." I have always owned the bigger ones. But what a surprise. This is more powerful than its big brothers, so you don't need that huge tank. Now it's love at first try.
This seems to be a really great dental irrigator/flosser.
Pros:
Nice look - classy black and gold
Water pressure control very responsive
it comes with a bunch of tips, some specialized for braces, crowns, etc, even a rotating brush head and tongue cleaner!
Good water tank capacity more than enough for one cleaning.
Suction feet so it stays put!
Remarkably quiet operation.
Tips store in sealed compartment that acts as lid to water reservoir.
I got this because I need to clean "pockets" in my gum line. This machine has PLENTY of water pressure for that - in fact even at the minimal pressure setting, it deep cleaned. I was pleasantly surprised at how powerful it is!
The rotating tooth brush is nice because it cleans and rinses the teeth in one go.
Cons:
None really
Okay, the tongue cleaning tip squirted water up my arm. Not sure, maybe I'm using that tip wrong.
Anyway - GREAT product and I would buy it again!
Great value for the price.
Considering the low price, this little machine works much better than I would have expected. Higher quality flossers may be available, but why pay more when this one will do everything you need. On top of that, it actually looks great sitting out on my bathroom sink. The only thing it's missing is a holder for all the attachments, but just get yourself a plastic baggie and keep them in a bathroom drawer.
Great product. Works better than my old water-pik and has a bunch of attachments. Terrific price and seller did an outstanding job shipping the water flosser. The follow-up customer service is the best.

I'm confused by the negative reviews I read on here. One person said they wished there was a storage caddy for the attachments, but there is a place for all of them to snap into inside the lid. Another said the cord was too short. I had that thing sitting on the very back of my counter and still had plenty of reach. Someone else said there wasn't enough water to do your whole mouth, but my husband and I both used it and there was still a little bit left in the bottom too. Maybe we're just not as thorough as them.
I do agree that the pressure is a little strong, it stung my gums a bit even on the lowest setting but I also have sensitive gums from long term gingevitis (a big reason I got this to help) but my husband didn't seem to have a problem with it. And yeah, it's not the quietest thing ever but it's not a chainsaw. Probably same volume level as an electric razor. The one thing I was a little surprised on is the water comes out in pulses. They're close enough together it's not too much of a big deal but still a noticable feeling in your mouth that it isn't an entirely constant stream.
Overall, it does exactly what I expected it to. It's been at least 10 years since I owned a Waterpik brand model, so I don't know quite how fancy those are these days in comparison, but I certainly feel like this product is a good quality bargain for the price. So long as it continues working in the long run, I have no reason not to recommend it.
Quiet, yet powerful! I like this unit and would purchase again.
I have been using this for about 2-3 weeks. I have had no issues with it. It is easy to refill. I've never owned a water flosser to compare this to, but I am happy with the product and enjoy using it. I do wish the lid were easier to remove when filling, but it's not a big deal.
This is a great little water pic. It’s smaller than my previous one but just as powerful! I’ve just had it a week but so far so good.
Update: Mea culpa. I didn't give customer service a chance. (Isn't that one of the reasons for having Prime? To not have to deal with customer service? 95% of the time it's a recording: "All of our reps are busy helping other customers. Please leave a message and we'll get back to you within 48 hours" and they don't. Or they can only be reached by email, which they never answer. Half of the reason to have Prime is to have a fast easy return and next-day replacement. The other half is free shipping). In my defense, I consider a water flosser as essential as my toothbrush. I've been using one since I was a teenager with braces (it's the only way to get braces clean. Corn on the cob, anyone?). So I wasn't going to go a day longer without one than I had to. Well, this seller is different. Even though I'd already returned the product to Amazon, AND received a refund and moved on, they sent me a new flosser to try. And it turned out to be great, for all the reasons I'd purchased it in the first place. My husband describes it as "awesome". (I turned him on to flossers when we got married. I still had the one from back-in-the-day when I had braces, a venerable old WaterPik that lasted over 20 years, actually it's still works, we just can't get heads to fit it. Our next WaterPik lasted 4 years. It's replacement didn't make it 2 years before the gasket beneath the reservoir started leaking. Don't make 'em like they used to. So I was ready to try a new brand. And the features and accessories on this were half the price of a "comparable" WaterPik. Actually, more accessories.) This is a great little appliance that does the job very well, at half--or less--the cost of the "name brand". Give it a try. And if you need to, give their customer service a chance, they are committed to customer satisfaction in a way you hardly ever see anymore.
Supposed to be next day shipping (which I wanted after my Water-Pik broke a seal, didn't want to skip a night in my dental routine) but it got lost. Then it arrived broken, the plastic hinges on the attachment storage top were snapped off, and it wasn't broken in transit, the box was undamaged. Poor quality control. Returned it and bought a real Water-Pik, which I should have done in the first place.
