After shooting your gun and the time comes for a cleaning, there are two choices you have when cleaning your barrel. One is to clean it with a patch and running it through multiple times, the other is with this bore snake. I have tried both, and I'm here to tell you the bore snake is king. Not only does it make the inside of my barrel clean as a whistle, but it does so by only running it through once. With a patch, you have to run it through at least half a dozen times especially if you've fired hundreds of rounds since the last cleaning, and it doesn't always clean everything off entirely. This also translates into more waste, not so friendly towards the environment. But with this snake, you spray your cleaning fluid inside the barrel, run the snake through once, and it's squeaky clean - one and done. If you haven't used a bore snake yet, I highly recommend trying one out to see for yourself. Once you see the results and how easy it is to use to clean your gun, you'll never go back to patches. Get one!
SO much easier to clean a bore with this than with traditional bore rods. As a traditionalist old fart, I have always used a cleaning kit that belonged to my father and shunned most "new and improved" items. since I purchased some pistols, I decided to just try this as a way to reduce the bulkiness of my kit bag. I did not have high expectations.
Was I wrong. I have fallen in love with this. so easy to completely clean the barrel and, even the loading ramp, by threading it through the barrel and down the magazine space in the grip and working it back and forth..
This review is both for product and the seller "Unigear" - the product in of itself works great, I have used bore snakes from the time they were first introduced and some are better than others.
I like this one due to the embedded brash brushes, they are a tad stiffer than other bore snakes I have bought - just seems logical to have them this way to help insure that the grime is removed.
Now, the other reason for this review is for the seller - I was confused about a matter and during this confusion - the seller was patient and communicated with me in a very professional manor. I will not get into details other to say that I will most certainly be shopping at Unigear again.
I had given up on finding a bore cleaner of this type that actually worked without getting lodged in the barrel of my match grade 10/22 style rifle. In fact, I had actually gotten a competitor's product lodged in the barrel of my rifle. This one is great, though! The first time I tried to run it down the barrel of a rifle, I had a minor problem. The first part of the string was just a little bit too thick to go down the barrel easily. However, once I stretched the string a few times, which kind of slimmed it down a bit, it passed right into the barrel with no problem at all. It also came through with no hang-ups. This one does the job correctly!!!!! Thanks for a great product! BTW, I have been using this style of cleaner for a couple of decades. This one is made correctly!
As a relatively new gun owner, I'm looking for the easiest way to keep my firearms clean. This bore cleaner snake does the trick, and at a lower price than many of the other brands I see.
It's not unlike a really fat shoelace with little scrubbing fibers and absorbent sections for cleaner and oil. Feed the black string through your barrel and chamber, let the brass weight drop through, grab it and pull firmly but slowly as the snake works its way through the bore. One or two passes with this is all you need, compared to dozens of passes with brushes and patches.

I want to note that I prefer the water bottle pouch on the same side as the zippers like this one. When you slide the bag from your back, under your arm until it is horizontal across your belly, the zippers are are right their where you need them, and your water bottle is on top.
Other bags with the bottle pouch on the opposite side, can allow the water bottle to drop out of the pouch when you rotate the bag around to your front because then the bottle pouch is under the bag (unless there is a retainer strap). I will say that I would have appreciated some sort of retainer strap for the top of the bottle on this bag, but I'm not going to take off a star for that. I know how I can add that myself if it proves necessary.
My only other minor critism is that the small outer pocket is difficult to get my hand into. I think that zipper needs to be redesigned (maybe slanted) so the opening is large enough for an adult hand.
As some others have noted in their reviews, out of the packaging, this bore snake does not work with a .22 LR rifle, particularly the Ruger 10/22, like mine. However, this was easily rectified and can be for all other that have similar issues:
1. Secure the brass-weight end in some kind of clamp, vice or hook, with as little contact as possible on the brass weight (preferably none, as you may distort it), as well as leaving as much of the cord free as possible.
2. loop a heavy weight of some kind, enough to stretch the black pull-cord tight, but not so much to put undue strain on the connecting stitches, through the loop at the far end of the bore snake (I hooked a heavy office stapler into it, so less than a pound?).
3. Let it hang for a week. Unless you go out shooting every day, this shouldn't be a problem.
4. Remove the bore snake from this bizarre setup and find that the pull-cord has now been tightened, and it's diameter reduced, allowing it to fit in the barrel of your favorite .22 LR firearm. I also gave the first few inches a bit of a twist between thumb and finger to get it round, as it sometimes stretches out a little flat.
Once 'fixed', this product works as intended. Considering the low cost, I'm not put out by a little waiting and 'adjustment' in order to use this tool. It saves a great deal of time in the cleaning of the Ruger 10/22, and I will be looking to purchase more if/when I expand my firearms collection.
After cleaning the old fashioned way, I can tell you this bore snake is the ONLY way to go. Use this every time you shoot and get out the old reliable orange kit (you know who I mean) every couple of months. Of course, a total clean every time you use your gun is best, but get real.....I get to practice twice as much now using the snake. I cant guess how many times I have not gone to practice because I didnt want to do the whole rigamarole with the orange kit.... not to listen to my wife complain about the smell. (I like the smell, but you probably know what I mean if you are married). After the snake has been used a few times, it does an even better job between total cleanups. In my case, using the snake makes me a better shooter because it lets me shoot more frequently without a guilty conscious if I dont feel like a total cleanup every time I shoot.
This review is in respect to the price of the product vs what you get. Installed on a synthetic stock 93r17
This IS a sort of cheek/comb riser and zippered pouch combo!! Included are x3 strips of 1" wide Velcro which you can stack to attain about a 5/8ths to 3/4" rise.
The "shell carrier" portions both inside and outside the zippered pouch are Velcro backed and thus removable! So the pouch becomes a plain pouch with a plain inside for storing lens pens or small rim fire magazines etc.
There are two zippers on the track for redundancy sake I assume and they have so far flowed smoothly.
The entire contraption took quite a bit of adjusting and took me a solid 20+minutes to get it just right but with enough patience it's able to hold firm and stay in place remarkably well.
Overall I am thoroughly pleased with this comb riser/stock pouch combo. I'm unsure if used on one my larger caliber rifles if I would have such a glowing review but for small varmint rifles it's wonderful
Despite looking like a relatively simple seeking design there are some key subtle hints that make this snake exceptional to use. I'm not an experienced gun owner but try to meticulously care for my firearms. This bore snake fulfills the role of two other cleaning tools I used to use. It has an integrated bristle brush where the snake engages the barrel of the gun. I've knocked out residue that I was unaware remainder the last time I cleaned my firearms. It is incredibly easy to use and for new shooters who might not have a work shop makes cleaning feel like next less of a chore. Everyone should have a bore snake like this to supplement their cleaning process regardless of there other tools. A big thank you to unigear for producing this product
