These are keepsake toys! We bought jack in the box and book sets for toddler grandchildren (age 23 months and 31 months). Both LOVED the jack in the box! Yes, you do need to help the child at this age turn the crank and put the rabbit back in the box, but wouldn't you want to anyway? Isn't that part of the fun? We couldn't be happier with our purchase.
Got this for a Nut brown Hare themed baby shower where the expectant mom was revealed her baby's gender at her shower. We did a switch up on the whole gender reveal thing. Everyone knew but her. Accessories matching the gender, a princess stretch headband and pink girly necklace, was placed on the rabbit before stuffing inside the box. At her shower she had to crank the handle and get surprised by the pop up and then surprised again by the baby's gender. It was perfect. Afterwards it became part of the nursery decor. It was also to be a toy for her daughter, but it's so adorable she's afraid it will get broken. If you are going to buy any kind of jack-in-the-box, this is the cutest one you could possibly buy.
I'm finding that other reviews I read before purchasing this were accurate. The first one I received was dented, and the music skipped notes. The dents weren't terribly obvious and didn't bother me that much, but I really wanted the music to sound better. Visually, the toy is absolutely adorable, so I returned the first one and ordered another. The second one arrived without dents and the music plays properly, but it doesn't always pop at the appropriate time. Most of the time it does, but it's a bit erratic. I think it is so cute, that I am keeping this one anyway. If it doesn't get played with, it will make a very cute decoration in my granddaughter's room. I am giving this to my granddaughter for Easter. At 17 months, I'm pretty sure she will need help packing the bunny back down in the box, but I still think it is a cute Easter gift. This is the first item I have ever returned to Amazon, and the process was very quick and easy.
We bought this when our daughter was around 6 months old because she loved when anyone surprised her/ played peek-a-boo. The box is very cute in person and seems well made. However, she was terrified whenever the bunny popped out. So we just left it open and she would play with it. Now that she is 9 months old she's not scared of it anymore when the bunny pops up but she doesn't really find it entertaining either. I'm sure that comes with time...we are keeping it still (partly because we can't return it) but had we known she wouldn't like it we probably wouldn't have bought it in the first place. But that's impossible to know, so we're glad the product is high quality.
My 1 year old grandson loves this. He is very hard on the toy, yet it keeps working like clockwork. I would highly recommend it.

Description
Watch with glee as your child uses the Nutbrown Hare Jack in the Box, anticipating the eventual "pop" as the little rabbit emerges from the box. This is a perfectly charming nursery fixture
This Jack (or Nutbrown)-in-the-Box is adorable and was perfect for my 4 year old daughter who wanted a Jack-in-the-Box for Christmas and her favorite book is "Guess How Much I Love You." I thought the music was fine and met my expectations for what a Jack-in-the-Box would sound like--I was not expecting a high-quality music box sound. The latch worked fine, however, you do have to play the song through so that the bunny goes back in the box easier (not a problem for me--maybe a little for my 4 yr. old) and the latch works fine then too. My biggest complaint was that it was poorly packaged in an Amazon Box with two other items (light weight) I purchased with a bunch of air filled plastic bags. The JITB was not boxed individually except to have a narrow box bottom around the lower half of the JITB maybe about an inch or so high--certainly not enough to protect it during shipping. I did not notice that it was somewhat dented in on the side where you turn the crank when I put it in another sturdier smaller box to wrap for Christmas until after my daughter was playing with it right after opening it. I did not return it as I think another would probably come dented also due to poor packaging and the dent was not overly noticeable, the crank still worked, and considering my 4 year old will be playing with it, I didn't see the point. She didn't even notice or care when I did. The tin used on this JITB is on the thinner side and does dent or ding easily. For the money, one would expect higher quality. But that is from a grown-ups point of view. My daughter LOVES it and is very happy with it and I guess that is what ended up mattering most. I gave it a 4 star because it made my daughter really happy, it is adorable, and I otherwise liked it other then the poor packaging and thin metal.
I bought this jack-in-the-box along with the book Guess How Much I Love You for my boys. The toy is getting a lot of attention from my babies. They smile whenever the music starts and are learning, with my help of course, how to do it themselves. The box is made of aluminum, so it feels like a can. Is light weight but doesn't seem to be too flimsy, but we'll see. I gave it a 4 stars on durability, even though I bought it recently, but will update any changes. The hare is really cute and it seems to be strongly attached to the box. My boys love to pull it by the ears so we'll see how long it lasts. I let them play with it but only when I'm holding it, since it doesn't seem like a toy that will tolerate a lot of abuse, but my boys are only 8 months old. It has illustrations and some quotes from the book on each side of the box. I think it would be a really cute gift if given with the book for some context.
This was purchased as an Easter gift for my 4 year old granddaughter. When the bunny popped out the first time, she squealed with joy and then asked how to get the bunny out of the box. This created an immediate issue that will be resolved by buying the Hare as a stand alone item. The quality is good but not great. It is obviously an old design that has been updated to make it cheaper to produce. I should imagine that the original design originated in the 1930's or earlier. It is about as good as one can expect today.
We love it!!!! It's so cute. Just a little harder to tuck them bunny ears back in. LOL!!! But, it's so soft & cute.
This is a very cute classic toy. My little grandsons love it. It was harder to locate a jack-in-the-box than I expected. This one is just like the ones I had when I was a little girl (and I still have one). Really glad to find out they’re not all gone because I like sharing it with my boys.
