Plug and play, pretty simple.One note if planning on using this for business projections (i.e. Hooked up to a projector, test it with the app....some apps get a bit funny with regards to orientation)
It works better than perceived, connecting to hdmi cable makes everything mirror the device (ipad 9.7 / iPhone xor xr) worked well for those devices. I tested vga cable and it didn’t recognize from vga; but I prefer hdmi anyway. It also charges the device it seems but it jumped my battery percentage (from
50 to 100%) and then it displayed at 100, and jumped back to 50 when unplugged. Also it didn’t register with another power supply but connects through the given cable to the usb wall charger. If anything that should be considered...and it will display most things on the dice with no problem. Didn’t work with optimum app and some programs with licensing restrictions, still lots of ways to make use of it.
I purchased this device to easily watch Youtube on a hotel television (through my iPhone 7) while out of town. The item worked perfectly and I was able to watch content from my phone on a large-screen television with this device and a standard HDMI cable (sold separately). The greatest advantage to this item is that you can still charge the phone while streaming video via HDMI since your lightning cable can plug into the device at the same time. I am very pleased with this item--especially for the relatively low cost.
I needed to connect my iPad to a display via HDMI for use during an arbitration. I specifically needed to use the app TrialPad. Plugging the adapter in was very easy and my screen immediately appeared on the TV. However, TrialPad has to actually have the iPad "detect" an external display in order to use the presentation mode (i.e., so people only see what I want them to see, and not my entire screen). Apparently this is only possible with Apple's own adapter, forcing me to spend $40-$50 instead of the much less expensive off-brand product. So while this product worked great, I unfortunately had to return it. I cannot speak to longevity, which is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5. But for the few days I had it, it was fine.
Casting an Iphone to a tv that is not an Apple TV is not always an easy thing. This HDMI adapter just give you the power to mirror your iphone directly and effectively onto your tv. Picture quality is good and the sound from videos are in synced when played back. I would recommend you get a long HDMI cable if you have to constantly use your phone like switching between videos or pictures etc as you need to have you charger plugged into the adapter at the same time in order for it to work.

This is my second unit. The first one worked great for about 6 months and then died. I sent an email indicated the specific unit I had and ask if they had any recommendations. I only received an email asking me to sent a picture. I just purchased a second unit and I hope I get more than 6 months use.
